With football season, hockey season and curling season upon us, it’s time to find out what everybody’s favorite sport is and why? We need the info for our records. Do you follow your college basketball team? Your local pro-football team? Or that cool luge team that mows your lawn for beer money in the off season? Fill us in, help us complete your dossier.
I'll never give up hope that my Browns will one day get to the Super Bowl. They may be in a party suite, but they'll get there.

Swimming!
ReplyDeleteI have had three competitive swimmers on the high school level --
and (yay!) a great female college athlete swimmer. (freestyle, backstroker) She was already up on the record board freshman year.
Not a popular sport to watch but these kids swim miles everyday. Most are studious and learn great lessons in hard work and perseverance.
Suzie1, I've been a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans since they were created, so I too know of pain. I almost couldn't believe it when they won the Super Bowl! The Browns will get there too some day -- almost made it twice if Kosar.

there is nothing like college football. pure adrenalin of young men. the hits are bigger, they haven't been completely corrupted by the money yet. and nothing beats being a fan in the stands at one of these games. love it. i'm also a big fan of rivalries (the annual thanksgiving battle royale between texas a&m and texas).

Patti: I'm with you. Always been a football fan. And I've been a rabid fan of Cal since my freshman year. Still am, and I'll keep up the chant I've been repeating for over forty years--next year, the Rose Bowl! Baseball bores me, soccer is a Euro-weenie sport (how can you be off-sides when the sides keep moving?) and basketball hasn't been worth watching since the UCLA glory years. Pro sports leave me cold (arrogant punks with some athletic talent making millions to play a boys game and develop their criminal careers).
ReplyDeleteGolf - I play regularly and often. In particular, I love golfing Ireland. The scenery along the coast is unsurpassed (think Ryan's Daughter.) You play and then drink pints in the clubhouse afterwards until you are convinced you played well. My favorite course is the old course at Ballybunion. The finishing holes are among the toughest in the world.
ReplyDeleteFootball - played it in high school. Got to watch my Eagles beat the Packers for the championship at Franklin Field (University of Pennsylvania's campus.) Now, I am becoming a big fan of Lane Kiffen and the Tennessee Volunteers. I love Smokey, the blue tick coon hound who is the mascot. Going to tailgate and games at Neyland Stadium is true SEC atmosphere.
We are fond of horse-drawn bobsledding ourselves...

ReplyDeleteI confess to watching practically nothing, except when the Olympics roll around. And then I certainly do get into all kinds of things, especially curling, Andrew, LOL!
Well, ok, I have watched some pro-football, but mostly it was more about the related snack-foods involved more than the game.
As for doing, I only recently discovered my "inner athlete." I did nothing throughout HS and college. But now I enjoy swimming and biking and hiking and step aerobics (ok not technically a sport, I suppose.) And yes, bowling.
