Captioning: I Am Not A Crook

Obama has tried to link himself to FDR, Lincoln, JFK and even Reagan. But somehow, none of those seemed right. But now, in honor of President's Day, Obama has started to mimic another President. . . and this one fits. Meet Obamanixon.

  2. Lawhawk, Tell me he doesn't look like Nixon! You know the image I'm talking about, where he leaves the helicopter and does the "V" is for "VD" thing. . . ;-)

  3. Andrew: Indeed it does. That hunched-down angry expression with the pointing finger was parodied by every comedian in sight, particularly Dan Aykroyd on SNL. So why aren't they doing it now? That was a rhetorical question, of course. It also looked a lot like Nixon during his "I'm no crook" speech.

  4. "I was not lying. I said things that later on seemed
    to be untrue."

–-Richard Nixon, discussing Watergate in 1978

--Barack Obama discussing his entire presidency in 2012.

  5. "Sock it to me...?"

I'm 27. I shouldn't know anything about Nixon or Laugh-In. Yet I've seen this clip before. Who knows? :-)

  6. USArtGuy: Nixon coined at least two new euphemisms for "I lied." One was "I mis-spoke," and the other was "that statement is no longer operative." Obama's neologism is "I feel that I didn't fully explain my position adequately."

  8. Scott, There's nothing wrong with having knowledge of the past! LOL!

Nice reference, by the way! :-)

  10. Andrew - I know! Just yesterday on BH, I was commenting on the picture of Jack Benny, with references to the Marx Brothers and Mel Blanc.

  13. Scott, Nice! Excellent knowledge of old-school Hollywood!

  14. P.S. Scott, the reason I've framed the Top 25 the way I have is that these films include iconic scenes and lines and ideas that have heavily influenced our culture -- that why I call them "films you should know" rather than "best" or "most romantic" or something like that.

I think if you want to be truly versed in American culture, these are the sorts of references (like the films I mention and the references you are making) you need to know.

  15. thank you Andrew...and I agree on the film idea, a really really "fill-in-the-blank" film will always leave you an unforgettable line!

  16. Obama: HEY YOU! I'm tellin' Michelle! Put the donut down...

  17. Bev, I can literally see him landing on the lawns of children, ordering them to put down their donuts and twinkies. Yikes!

  18. DCAlleyKat, Interestingly, one of my upcoming Top 25 articles is going to be the films that are most referenced in the culture -- but that's a few weeks away yet.

  19. Stan, I suspect he's been saying that a lot lately! Right after each of his "THE speech of his Presidency"s.

  20. he's Pinocchio-esque here. i can't even look at the dude without suppressing a blech...

  21. Patti, He is certainly a prime candidate to be muppetized, isn't he?

  22. "I see dead people."

    Or,

He's playing Cops and Robbers with Pelosi.

    ReplyDelete
  23. At least he's not playing doctor with her!

Of course, with Pelosi, "playing doctor" doesn't mean what it meant to the rest of it -- it means pretending to give botox injections and then filling out reems of government paperwork.

  24. I didn't get a "Harumph" out of that guy!

    "Mel Brooks - Blazing Saddles"

  25. Anon, Excellent! I honestly hadn't thought about that one, and it's truly perfect for the picture! I now want to see his back, to see if he has "Prez" written on it?!
