SOTU: It's Fight Night!!

In the left corner, we have Barack Obama. . . the Kenyan Nightmare. . . he floats like butter and stings like a B student at Grade Inflation University. Weighing in at 98 pounds, his best punch is a sucker punch recently renamed the Tucson Exploiter by his manager, Joey "Half-Truth" Biden. Barack lost his prior match to Ryan in a first round knock out at health care arena and has been on a career slide ever since. Tonight, he looks for a little revenge.

In the right corner, we have Paul “the Brain” Ryan, the pride of Wisconsin. Weighing in at 140 pounds, Ryan shows that brain beats brawn every time. His best punch is the Principled Hook, which he combines with the Factoid Jab for a devastating 1-2 combination. Managed by John "Tan King" Boehner, Ryan is fast, smart and a real up and comer. His goal tonight will be to take down Obama and prove that he deserves a title fight.

Tonight’s guest judges are the American people, who will be keeping score at home. And you're invited to talk about it here!

Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!!!!

  1. Lol! I'll be here tonight. I hear Obama keeps changing what he's going to say because whatever it is isn't working! Go Ryan!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hey, don't forget Michele Bachmann, who has somehow managed to carve out a second right corner and will be jumping up and down during the fight and going, "Hey! I'm here too!"

    ReplyDelete
  3. T-Rav, I heard she was going to speak, but then I never heard any details about it. Where/when is she speaking?

Ed, I'll be here too. If you have any pre-SOTU thoughts, feel free to share those too.

  4. Obama is going with 5 year spending freeze. Nice try, although he must have read your piece about giving away his bargaining position on healthcare. At least he is trying to start with "no cuts" instead of the old "reduction in the level of increase" in defeference to the ass kicking that was delivered back in November

    ReplyDelete
  5. Jed, There are moments that I honestly wonder if he isn't trying to do the right thing. . . but then that passes and I remember that he's a Democrat.

In terms of the freeze itself... a five year freeze is nice, but it's hardly enough considering how much the budget run up in the past 2-3 years. They should set the budget back to 2006. Then I would be impressed.

  6. Bachman's address will be streamed at Teaparty Express website

    ReplyDelete
  7. I can't... I just can't do it... >>sob<< I can't take it...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Andrew - he is trying to do the right thing as he sees it. Unfortunately, that way crushes individual liberty and freedoms and keeps our economy from rebounding.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Crispy, There's no shame in that. He's hard to take. And expect there's going to be a lot of manipulation, especially as he rehashed Tucson and when he tries to tell us about Jane Smith who no longer enjoys Christmas because Republicans took away her health care.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Jed, That is indeed the problem, that even his good faith best efforts aren't things we want. Still, I have to give him credit for changing the way he's been acting. He's suggesting things now that the 2008 Obama wouldn't even have considered.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Andrew, like Jed said, it'll be streaming on the Tea Party website, and won't start until Ryan is done speaking. Incidentally, I actually do like Bachmann, even though some people think of her as a lightweight--how can you not like someone who goes out of her way to tweak Chris Matthews on his own show?--but I don't see the point of giving a separate Tea Party rebuttal. If the GOP was already going back to its RINO ways, that would be different; as it is, I think a show of unity is more productive just now.

There was a little bit of speculation earlier that Bachmann might be getting some revenge on Ryan for not backing her for Caucus Chair, but that seems too petty. I think it's probably a sincere, if misguided, act on her part.

    ReplyDelete
  12. T_Rav, I like Bachmann and I've never considered her a lightweight, though I have heard the charge.

I agree about the need for a separate Tea Party rebuttal -- right now is not the time because the Republicans are doing pretty well.

I also have some trepidation about these Tea Party groups that seem to be behind a lot of the Washington Tea Party activities. They seem out of place to me with the spirit of what made the Tea Party what it was. In other words, whereas the Tea Party seemed to be millions of individuals taking politics into their own hands, groups like the Tea Party Express seem more like old-school lobbyists (e.g. Dick Armey) trying use the Tea Party as a vehicle for their own goals. . . which is why they keep making bombastic and misplaced statements and gestures -- to stay in the news cycle.

    I find the troubling.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Crispy - I am with you. I am not sure that I can actually watch it all the way through, but I will be online and will comment anyway. I really want to see Boehner behind Obama and Fancy Nancy in the audience. I will drink to that!

Andrew and T-Rav - I agree about the separate Tea Party rebuttal and what you say about the Tea Party Express lobby stuff. That is exactly what they are trying to do. Harness the whole thing for their own gain. Many of the smaller groups are doing the same thing on local level. It's annoying. But I also chalk it up to "group" dynamics. Why I've never been a "joiner".

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bev, I've never been a joiner for the same reason -- group dynamics stink. . . too many free riders and too many people ready to use the group for their own purposes. Plus, groups stifle creativity and make progress painfully slow.

In terms of the DC Tea Party people, I've seen several instances already where I find myself scratching my head, thinking "I don't think actual Tea Party people would agree with that." And each time, the person behind the statement is some "former" lobbyist.

I found it interesting too that so many House members stayed away from the Tea Party caucus. In fact, I think that's a very good sign. Forming a caucus just makes the Tea Party into nothing more than another interest group. The Tea Party is much better off staying harder to quantify, as a set of beliefs shared by an unknown number of engaged voters.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Andrew - I agree about the Tea Party Caucus. It's just another platform for Michelle Bachmann. But that being said, I have been invited by our TP group (TeaParty365) to be in the gallery at the first Caucus session in DC. If it doesn't snow too badly, I am going to go. I will report on it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just found out Carol Browner has resigned from the Energy and Enviroment Czar post and there is no new name to replace her. Elections do have consequences.

Browner, as some of you know, is an enviromentalist as well as a socialist. She was behind the second-hand smoke hoax. She is notorious for intimidating Auto execs into keeping nothing in writing.

She is also responsible for banning inhalers. The inhalers used by asthma sufferers to relieve asthma attacks. Used properly they are a life-saver. That is before the ban. The reason? The old inhalers used CFC's as a propellant. CFC's supposedly destroy the Ozone layer. Still, they weren't banned because they were an exempt medical device. The current ones are pathetic.

Maybe Barry Soetoro will nominate a new czar tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bev, Cool! I look forward to your report!

(And if you happen upon Nancy Pelosi on the trip, don't forget to point and laugh! :-) )

    ReplyDelete
  18. Actually, I can't wait to see all of our Congresscritters holding hands and sing "Kumbaya"! Did you hear that Nancy snubbed Eric Cantor's invitation to sit together? Yep, she had another date for the Prom and turned him down cold.

It is also rumored that the Supremes will not make an appearance. Oh, that's Justices, not the singing group.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Joel, That sounds like good riddance to bad garbage! I hadn't heard that about the inhalers, but that's really insane.

I would say, let's hope they get someone better, but I doubt he'll nominate anyone better. Still, it will make an interesting test of the new senate!

    Thanks for the information.

(I wonder why she resigned today? Odd timing.)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bev, I've been seeing that for a couple weeks that the Supreme's weren't coming -- good for them. They don't need the political grief!

I just saw that about Cantor and Pelosi. So much for this "can't we all just get along" business. . . apparently, they can't. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I vote for Algore for the new Energy and Environment Czar! He's got experience, so his learning curve would be pretty steep. It might look like that hocky stick graph even. AND he invented the interwebs...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Andrew,

(I wonder why she resigned today? Odd timing.)

Issa's investigations are going to be starting soon.

As to the Tea Party Caucus?

Initially I thought they were a good idea, but now.... not so much. Maybe it is because there is a Congressional Black Caucus and it would be too easy for pundits to call the Tea Party Caucus the Congressional White Caucus. Blacks need not apply. Cynical of me? Why not?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Joel, I just don't like the idea of isolating them from the rest of the Congress. Because that way they go from being an idea that all of Congress should respect and fear to being a small group of House members. I think it's better to keep the whole thing nebulous.

Bev, I like the selection of Algore. Or Chicken Little! Both would seem appropriate. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bev, that's quite an honor!

I'm with you, I'm really not sure I can stand the smarminess that will certainly be Barack Obama tonight (and all other nights). I'm more interested in seeing Paul Ryan's rebuttal--and yet for that to have force, I have to watch at least some of Obama's actual speech. (sigh) Conundrums...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I've finished my shopping trek, put the horses and the covered wagon in the barn, and I'm ready for the hot air from DC. I'm far more interested in how Ryan does than I am about our Bloviator-in-Chief.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, and Andrew, I hadn't heard that none of the Justices would be coming. I knew Alito, Scalia, and Thomas wouldn't, which makes me like them even more, but it seemed more ambiguous where the others were concerned. I hope it's true, because I think it would look bad if they split their attendance along ideological lines. Honestly, they should all stay away after that stunt last year. Political grandstanding during a national address and then attacking Alito just demonstrated how politically juvenile Obama can be, and a unanimous absence would be a pointed reply to his behavior.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bev - I'm with you on algore, the fondler. Remember, he has demonstrable skills in secret cash raising from Pacific rim countries. These skills could truly help to make us even more owned by PRC.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jed, You cynic! But now that you mention it. . . he's also got proven skills when it comes to turning a huge profit based on false science, so maybe he should be secretary of commerce or something instead?

T_Rav, I don't know if it's all of them or not, but I agree -- it should be all or nothing. An ideological split would look bad for the court.

And like you and Lawhawk, I'm really only interested in Ryan's response. Obama doesn't interest me anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have my pitcher of martinis ready and I will be watching. Hopefully the vodka martinis will help deaden the pain. But at least I won't have to look at Nancy's maniacal smile in the background.

    ReplyDelete
  30. WriterX: I hope you're not following Rush's advice and taking a drink each time the Obamassiah says "investment" and "civility."

    ReplyDelete
  31. Writer X: You're so classy! I gonna drink right out of the bottle. I don't think I'll have time to pour...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Okay, the Senate is coming into the House two by two. It's like Noah's Ark! They weren't holding hands though...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Since the SOTU will begin soon, I would just like to take this moment to remind everyone not to start any drinking games that involve taking a drink every time Obama mouths phrases such as "Let me be clear" or "We need to make some hard choices." Alcohol poisoning is a terrible thing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. T-Rav - I add to that "I". That could kill ya'!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sorry guys and gals I can’t deal with Barry spewing his faux centrist BS. I’ll read, and hear about it tomorrow.

I agree, I don’t like Dick Army and others trying to corral the Tea Party, and call it their own, not cool. It works better as a fluid, moving, impossible to hit political target, or as you say nebulous. Statist Washington, both sides are scared to death of the Tea Party, we need to keep it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey, who's that dude in Nancy's seat?! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  37. They are wearing ribbons in remember Rep. Gifford and to show solidarity in civility.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hubby's watching a movie...any word on the supremes yet?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Dude, we all wore the same thing? Who knew black robes would be so popular?

    ReplyDelete
  40. you beat me to it. Thanks Bev.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Tam, No Scalia and no Thomas. I didn't hear if Roberts was there, but the rest are.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love Jim DeMint...

"We need cuts, not a freeze. When a car speeds toward a cliff, you hit the brakes, not cruise control."

    ReplyDelete
  43. LawHawk, how about shots after "innovation" and "we have to return to civility"?

Bev, drinking straight from the bottle works in a pinch too.

    Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Bev, that would be "no." Only six of them are there.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Okay, I just can't do it...I will watch the rebuttal.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Boehner looks like he is about to throw up.

I have it on live stream from Fox News, but I have the sound turned off. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Someone must have told him to use "We", not "I". I don't think I have every heard him us "We" so much.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Who writes his speeches? Talk about Dullsville!

If they re-wrote "Gone With the Wind," it would sound like a manual on how to assemble a printer.

    ReplyDelete
  49. At least a printer's manual is useful.

    ReplyDelete
  50. "The world ain't what it used to be. When I was young, you could have a job. But not today... nope. The rules have changed. The steel mills are gone and robots will soon rule the earth."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes, but none of them can tell you where Montana is...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Andrew, LOL!! Suck it Nancy!

    ReplyDelete
  53. This sounds like he's reading from an encyclopedia.. . . and he's just randomly flipping through different pages.

Did you know there was a China?

Did you know we had pioneers?

Hey, is this microphone on? Why are you all sleeping.

    ReplyDelete
  54. We're the nation of Facebook? Thanks, now I'm feeling suicidal.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Biden reminds me of Jeff Dunham's Walter. Dunham is a ventriloquist with Achmed the Dead Terrorist.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bev, Alito had a pre-scheduled speaking commitment in Hawaii, from what I hear. Scalia and Thomas were the ones who said they weren't going to be there because--well, they didn't want to. (By the way, if anyone should have told Obama "screw you" and stayed home over last year, it'd be Anthony Kennedy, who actually wrote that campaign finance decision.)

    ReplyDelete
  57. My God, this is like an idiot randomly talking about their view of American history.

The Soviets whipped us good, until we showed them.

Did you know that Sputnik was the name of a car we put in a drive way?

    America once created computers.

Immigrants washed up on our shores.

    I have a budget.

You could once have a job for life?

Two guys in Michigan run a roofing company, but they got hit by the recession. Now they make solar shingles.

Reinvent people. Be smarter. Stop being idiots. Start making jobs.

    Have some money.

    Assemble scientists.

We'll fund you to create an Appollo project.

    Turn sunlight into car fuel.

Turn up the nuclear power! Give me biofuel!

    This is awful!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. No Bev, NASA was created by a student loan given to a guy in Michigan after China developed steel mills.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Joel, Nice catch. I need high def to look for strings!

    ReplyDelete
  60. John Boehner literally looks like he's about to fall asleep. Strange, considering all these witty and entertaining one-liners POTUS is trotting out. Wait--80% of America's energy will be renewable by 2035? Did he seriously just say that?

    ReplyDelete
  61. If I was going to write a speech of worn-out platitudes strung together randomly, this would be it.

If he says, "you gotta give 110%," I'm turning over to Star Trek."

    ReplyDelete
  62. My God, someone needs to get RLM's Larry Plinkett to review this address. At least I'd die laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. At least this year the Democrats aren't popping up after every sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "We know what's possible from our children... read that Tiger Mom book!"

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'd settle for a educational system that teaches our children to read, write, and arithmetic. Can't we start there?

    ReplyDelete
  66. T-Rav, That would be awesome!

Joel, No one's jumping up because he's not saying anything that makes sense. He's just spewing simplistic generality.

    "Education is good."
    "Food poisoning is bad."
"Love your kids, don't eat them."
"We want to reward good things."
    "But low, sell high."

    ReplyDelete
  67. Does this mean we're going to be renaming them "nation-builders' unions"?

    ReplyDelete
  68. T-Rav, Yep. And we're sending them all to Korea.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hey, what a coincidence that the woman he's picked randomly out of the country just happened to get tickets to tonight?!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Even Michelle can't bring herself to clap with any enthusiasm.

    ReplyDelete
  71. "Not just because the furniture jobs are gone..."

No, I'm pretty sure it's because the furniture jobs are gone.

OH MY @#%#@#&^%!!! Undocumented workers' kids are living in fear?!

    ReplyDelete
  72. If you're a Democrat and you needed illegal immigrants voting for you to win, stand up!

    ReplyDelete
  73. We don't need more infrastructure, we need CHEAP LABOR!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I've got a better idea. Can we build a wall or fence or something on the border, and then worry about whether all the undocumented kids here have had their feelings hurt?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Let's double down on stupid! Woo hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Andrew, was Harry Reid one of those standing up at that line? Oh, speak of the devil (literally)...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Looks like Pelosi has Coffin-Hair.

    ReplyDelete
  78. What China, Korea, and India have that we don't - CHEAP LABOR!

    ReplyDelete
  79. This sounds like an IBM commercial. "On you can download porn faster than ever before."

    ReplyDelete
  80. And don't forget it'll be much easier for the student and firefighter and all them to download porn that way.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Bev, what's cheap labor? Can you find that on a high speed train that sends blueprints to firemen?

    ReplyDelete
  82. OH! So now lowering the corporate taxes is a good thing and won't hurt the deficit. Did he say the opposite just last month???

    ReplyDelete
  83. How are we going to double our exports by 2014? Is this the same math that said we'd extend health coverage to everyone in the country while saving taxpayers money?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Unnecessary rules like UNION RULES????

    ReplyDelete
  85. If our food, water and air is clean, then drop the EPA.

And f&^$%$ you speed limit laws you safety Nazi.

And YOU PASSED A LAW THAT LETS THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY EXPLOIT PATIENTS YOU PIECE OF LYING SH~T!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. How does ObamaCare do any of that?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Let's repeal what needs repealing and let's move forward.

    ReplyDelete
  88. OH HA HA HA!! He made a funny about health care!

"If you have ideas about how to make care better..."

Apparently he has too much of a short-term memory to recall Mr. Ryan.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Please make him stop. Please make him stop.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Bev, This is all blurring together. He's just throwing out heaps of BS and my mind is going numb.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Wow, $400 billion in 10 years! That's all of 0.4% of the budget!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Why don't we CUT spending to Dwight Eisenhower's budget.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Andrew, it sounds like you're losing your temper with The One. He just doesn't want us to go back to the past when only millionaires could get health care and insurance companies were tools of Satan and so on and so on...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Is NPR one of our most vulnerable citizens?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Bev, pinch yourself and throw some water on your face, and it'll all be over. All these words will suddenly form themselves into coherent sentences.

    ReplyDelete
  96. WHAT CUTS HAS HE PROPOSES???? WHERE ARE THESE CUTS THAT HE HAS PROPOSED????? WHERE, WHERE, WHERE?????

    ReplyDelete
  97. T-Rav, It's hard not to lose your patience with a man who is so full of crap. He hasn't said a truthful or relevant thing in an hour now, and he's getting into fantasy land.

He should be running a game show, not a government.

    ReplyDelete
  98. That's because you screwed with the numbers you gave the CBO, you stupid stupid idiot!!! %@#$&@!^(#@)^?^!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. He has now veered sharply into socialism.

    F*&%$ YOU, MR. PRESIDENT!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Something-something-wealthiest 2% of Americans something-something-millionaires tax breaks something-something-giving up their privileges. Oh my head hurts...oh my head hurts...

    ReplyDelete
  101. Apparently the best thing we could do for the the tax code is to get OBAMA'S ADMINISTRATION APPOINTEES AND FEDERAL EMPLOYEES TO PAY THEIR DAMN TAXES!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  102. If all of this is true, then WHY DIDN'T YOU FIX IT? YOU HAVE THE POWER?!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Black-and-white TV? Whaaaa????

Yes, let's all laugh nervously at a fish joke. That's the most clever thing he's said all night.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Oops, "smoked salmon" didn't get the huge laugh and applause he was expecting...That's what we in the "business" call a pregnant pause.

    ReplyDelete
  105. he made a funny! ALL IS FORGIVEN!!

    not...

    ReplyDelete
  106. I will create a proposal that remakes the government into a form that burns only oxygen and spits out unicorns. . . you'll see. It will be prefect. Trust me. I can't tell you how this will work, but it will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Bev, All of his "jokes" have failed tonight. Every single one.

    ReplyDelete
  108. "I've asked Congress to do what the White House has already done--put the information online." Oh, but also manipulate the information, and sometimes lie and don't put it up at all. Yeah, just like the White House does.

    "No one superpower opposes us."

    Except China.

    ReplyDelete
  109. That's the world's longest meaningless sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  110. i feel renewed. i feel restored. why can't you people just get on board with this man?!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yes, Iraq is a paradise and tomorrow we're all going there for a pizza party.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes! Our soldiers leave with their heads held high. It's our President who bows to dictators.

    ReplyDelete
  113. "All of his 'jokes' have failed tonight. Every single one."

Including the one at the podium.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Patti! Drink something, We're losing you!!! Speak to me, speak to me. Turn away from the television!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Oh, dang, you mean Muslims in America were all outcasts before? Gee, I never noticed. I guess I should have after everybody wanting to build that nice little mosque in lower Manhattan was stoned and publicly burned...oh wait.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I don't even know what to say to this horsepoop.

    ReplyDelete
  117. "Their safe havens are shrinking."

    That's what she said!

    ReplyDelete
  118. START Treaty=worst foreign policy idea of the past decade. Don't bring up DADT repeal, don't bring up DADT repeal...

    ReplyDelete
  119. Wait a minute.... I get it. He's selling a novel he wrote: "How My Presidency Should Have Gone."

    ReplyDelete
  120. "....rob people of opportunity."

ah! now i see what he's doing. clever.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Um, we're Americans. We don't really care about Sudan. And YOU supported that dictator until he left the country.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Good point Patti. I think you've put your finger on it.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Okay, in all seriousness, Obama, are you sure you want to go down this road right now? I mean, maybe you want to let the smoke clear in Tunisia first...no? Okay.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I knew he would suck, but I never realize how badly he would suck. I'm anxious to hear the responses; never have the pickings been so easy. He doesn't give a rat's butt about the military.

    ReplyDelete
  125. andrew: i downed a couple of shots and it all come clear. thanks for the tip bev ;)

    ReplyDelete
  126. I think I've heard enough to grade the speech:

    Substance: 0
    Style: 0
    Clarity: 0

    Total score: 0/100

    ReplyDelete
  127. Wait a minute, the Tunisans are gay?

    ReplyDelete
  128. who do you think will be the first lap dog to say he "hit a home run."

    ReplyDelete
  129. Arrrghhhh!!! He brought it up! Stupid! "Because of who they love..." At least he called on campuses to open their doors back up to ROTC. That's something, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Thank God. It's almost over!! That sounds like a closing, doesn't it??

    ReplyDelete
  131. Andrew, apparently so are the Egyptians. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  132. So is high speed rail bad then because it knocks down homes?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  134. what happened to "elections have consequences," bam bam?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Is he skipping around in his speech? No real speechwriter could possibly have put this turkey together?

    ReplyDelete
  136. We like John B. We don't like Joey B.

    ReplyDelete
  137. "We may differ on how we interpret the Constitution..."

Yes, sometimes I hallucinate and think I see rights to abortion and health care in the Bill of Rights.

    ReplyDelete
  138. please Boehner, don't cry, . . . please

    ReplyDelete
  139. I thought he was almost finished...MAKE HIM STOP!!!!

  141. That's because the gov't wasn't "studying"

    ReplyDelete
  142. I missed the first half hour watching Rush on the Haney project, but this is the most god awful speech I've ever heard.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! 144. I can't take his psuedo-seriousness. Blech blech blech

    ReplyDelete
  145. I missed the first half hour watching Rush on the Haney project, but this is the most god awful speech I've ever heard.

    ReplyDelete
  146. we do big things. we build stuff. we invent stuff. it's big

    ReplyDelete
  147. An hour and two minutes. Well, that could have been worse.

    ReplyDelete
  148. THANK GOD!!! Finally it's over. What a load of smoked salmon...

    ReplyDelete
  149. Even excluding the partisan ideas, this was EASILY the worst SOTU speech I've EVER heard.

I've heard better speeches by the criminally insane.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Andrew, I would like to add to your last post the following:

    Shut up!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Seriously, he would have done better smoking a joint and then just speaking off the top of his head.

I would honestly fire his speech writers the minute I got back to my office.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Well, THAT wasn't so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  153. On the plus side - THey didn't spend a whole lot of time clapping and laughing at jokes and stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  154. Bev, That's true, because they were just stunned.

T-Rav, ??? Put down the drugs my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  155. And here comes the Fox News panel. I will summarize their reactions as follows:

    Charles Krauthammer: It sucked.
Kirsten Powers: OMG! I want to have Obama's babies!!
Juan Williams: Totally awesome, except I wished he'd said something about NPR.
Brit Hume: It sucked. Obama needs to embrace Christianity.

    ReplyDelete
  156. All the analysts are walking on egg shells about the speech. They know it sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Andrew, put down the drugs?! How else do you expect me to get through this #@*%^$ without slitting my wrists?

    ReplyDelete
  158. T-Rav, I hear ya.

Come on Paul Ryan! Show them how it's done!

    ReplyDelete
  159. By the way, thread winner of the night over at Hot Air (in my opinion): "Does Obama know the difference between a democracy and a democratic republic?"

    ReplyDelete
  160. Nice tone to start off with: "Hey, Obama's speech didn't TOTALLY suck." Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  161. "we agree and we think his health care law would be a great place to start...." ZAP!!!

    ReplyDelete
  162. "Hold all of us accountable." I like that!

    ReplyDelete
  163. unprecedented failure...indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  164. "We owe you a better choice and a different vision!" Woo hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  165. awseome!!!! tell it like it is, baby!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Nice hammock reference. I also like how he turned the "it's for the children" argument against the Dems.

    ReplyDelete
  167. He went there...he went to Greece, Ireland, UK and Europe. Cool...call out the Socialist ideals.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Wow. I am seriously impressed. That speech was honestly compelling!

    ReplyDelete
  169. "[Free enterprise] has done more to help the poor than any other economic system in history."

    ZING!!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Ryan sounds like Reagan. Short, sweet and to the point.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Seriously, wow. If that had been the SOTU speech, I would have rated it the best ever.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Seemed to me like a pretty good speech, though I could be a little biased. I would have liked him to be a little less vague where specific policy proposals were concerned, but then again, he might have lost the audience if he'd gotten too wonkish. Good point from Brit Hume, though: "If you're serious about making cuts, someone's gotta go first."

    ReplyDelete
  173. Seriously, I didn't expect much from Ryan. He said more in five minutes than Obama said all evening.

    ReplyDelete
  174. F-you Juan Williams. That's the standard leftist garbage -- somehow Republicans never seem to get specific enough.

Ryan's speech was a fantastic mix of (1) explanation of why we need to act, (2) greater detail than Obama about what they plan to do, and (3) a stunning demonstration that he understands history and our philosophy and how they all relate.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Oh, re Joel's point: Apparently just before Ryan went on, Katie Couric described Obama's speech as "Reaganesque." In a related story, I will not be watching the CBS Evening News anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  176. T_Rav, That's the new talking point. For two weeks now, we've heard nothing but comparison between Obama and Reagan... in magazines, in newspapers, out of the mouths of the talking heads, and from everyone on the journolist.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Krauthammer makes a good point. I think Obama's going to play chicken with the Republicans on entitlement spending and try to make it look like they're the ones screwing over seniors.

    ReplyDelete
  178. T-Rav, That's probably true, but I think they're ready for it.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Ryan is now the new face of the Republican Party.

I am listening to this live stream from Fox, so I am spared the talking heads.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Andrew, I'm just amused at the lengths the media's willing to go to to keep this meme alive. The defects of Obama's speech should be perfectly obvious, and yet she's going to compare him to Ronald Reagan. Right. Not unless she forgot to add the "Junior" before "esque."

Oh, by the way, where's LawHawk tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  181. Did you see Frank Lutz's focus group? They hated the speech almost universally.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Oh, my god, that was painful to watch. And I kept getting distracted by Biden. Why does he always act like he's at a carnival?! Next time somebody give him a big lollipop.

My take: It was like watching somebody running for student council. I'm surprised he didn't promise everybody free pizza on Fridays. Long on pretty words; short on substance. Not a huge surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Ooh! Obama's SOTU got slammed by Frank Lutz's opinion group on Hannity! I don't know if the group tilts Republican, but this is brutal.

    ReplyDelete
  184. And I thought Harry Reid was going to choke on his own saliva when he mentioned he wouldn't sign any bills with earmarks. We'll see how long that lasts!
