The All-Rat News Roundup

It’s time to get you caught up on the news. Today’s roundup has a special theme: rats. They’re everywhere and now they have rights.

King Rat: Lord Obama has decided he will formally accept the Democratic nomination at the 74,000 seat Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. A couple thoughts:
1. It’s stunning hubris for an incumbent president to accept the nomination of his party at a 74,000 seat stadium when he is unopposed.

2. Given Obama’s recent inability to even fill pool halls when he speaks, should we wonder how many people will show up to this shindig?

3. How ironic that Obama picks a stadium named after a TARP bank!

4. Do you think the rich will descend from their stadium luxury boxes to mix with the peons?

5. This will be hurricane season, let’s hope God gets his smite on.
Rat Relocators: Washington, D.C., which leads the country in homicides, corruption and abject stupidity, has passed the idiotic law to end all idiotic laws: the Wildlife Protection Act of 2010. This thing is so crazy you couldn’t make it up. It provides that exterminators may no longer kill rats and other vermin. Instead, they must be captured. . . in families. . . and then relocated to Virginia or Maryland. A few questions:
1. Do they have to do DNA tests to determine if they’re all from the same family? And how do they know they caught them all?

2. What, no counseling?

3. Can they incarcerate their captives until they have the whole family or do they need to get them all at once?
Rat Hunter: In 2008, Romney was lampooned when he said he hunts “small varmints” when people demanded to know if he hunts. Apparently, you must hunt BIG GAME to show you support the Second Amendment. This time around, Romney got confused between moose (meese?) hunting and elk hunting. So naturally, idiots like David Asselrod jumped on this by joking that Romney was “on the horns of a dilemma.” (fyi, they’re called antlers David. . . if you’re going to poke fun at someone, don’t be a bigger idiot).

The issue of hunting came up in the debate as well. And this raises a question which has been bother me: when did the Second Amendment become about hunting? The Second Amendment isn’t there to protect hunting. It has NOTHING to do with that. The Second Amendment is a right to be armed to defend yourself against an overbearing government or whatever else may come your way, i.e. criminals, meese, foreign invaders, E.T. To require a candidate to prove they’ve killed some animal just to demonstrate their fealty to the Second Amendment is as ridiculous as requiring them to curse in public to show they support the First Amendment.

Dirty Rats: Why are Republicans demanding that Romney release his taxes? What are they expecting to find? “Oh look, he took the ‘sponsor a pedophile’ deduction!” All this can do is harm the nominee by playing into class warfare arguments where rich journalists decry the amount of money Republicans make while ignoring the much richer Democrats. But more importantly, in America, it’s nobody’s business what you make. And Republicans need to stop playing this game.

Sinking Ship Rats: Today is the day of the SOPA boycott when many websites (e.g. the Wikipedia) will shut themselves down to protest SOPA and PIPA. The bills are starting to fail. Not only will neither bill apparently be brought to a vote, but as the rats in Congress and the Senate have come to realize just how angry the public is at this, they’ve started to flee the sinking ship. Scott Brown and a group of Senate Republicans are the latest to declare their opposition. Even one of PIPA’s sponsors, Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md), now opposes the bill. Apparently, Obama objecting the bill has scared the Democrats and reality has woken up many of the Republicans.

No doubt Republicans Lamar Smith and Marsha Blackburn are confused how the country could suddenly be so overrun with communists. Perhaps they should call for an exterminator relocator?

  1. Good post, Andrew. Don't know if you ever read "King Rat" by James Clavell. It was the first of his Asian series and was made into a pretty decent film back in the early 60's. That said, Lord Obama has truly redefined the word "hubris" has he not? I think he may be the greatest example of style over substance ever perpetrated on American voters. The rat re-locator is a wonderful example of government run amok; another way of saying "liberalism sucks."

On the tax thing, the other candidates are still hoping to win the prize for themselves, and would be more than happy if they fatally wound Romney doing so. So much for unity. I wonder if Ricky will sniff around for an appointment in a Romney administration?

Good to hear concerning S.O.P.A., but discouraging to remember what pandering idiots politicians must become.

  2. Andrew

I think you are missing the point of Obama's humble little get together in the Bank of America stadium.

He will of course attract all his Goldman Sach's cronies which have benefited from free stock and the ability to take over American corporations using the federal government's TARP funds which of course were "just to help the little guy".

And the Stadium will be filled with all those wonderful Occupy People who support the One.

See he is truly bringing people together...

    Yeah!

  3. I read--and I really hope this is true--that the D.C. rat thing doesn't apply to all rats and mice, but just to the non-house dwellers, the ones living in the "wild," as it were. I mean, surely no one could be this insane. Of course, I don't know anyone who heads for the outdoors to trap rodents, so this still seems rather silly and pointless.

I have a friend who I think lives in Marsha Blackburn's Tennessee district. I need to ask her what she thinks of the good Congresswoman.

As far as our Teleprompter-in-Chief goes....you underestimate his powers, Andrew. Surely there are 74,000 people in this country who would gladly show up in hopes of getting some "Obama money."

irony 'ī-rə-nē (n) incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result

    Not very.

    ReplyDelete
  5. T-Rav, I read that it excludes the kinds of mice and rats normally found in homes, but the ones in DC are a different breed and thus don't fit in the exception.

  6. 1. Since the BofA Stadium is an open stadium, I am praying for rain. Lots of rain. Do you think he'll recycle the Greek columns that he used last time? I certainly hope so seeing how Greece is the last empire he should want to invoke.

    2. What do the people of Maryland and Virginia think about the rat families relocation program?

And as a side note - NYC mandates that they will forever more be called "pest controller" and not "exterminator". It's some "truth in advertising" issue since they can't possibly exterminate all the vermin in NYC.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I totally agree about the hunting thing. Say "this protects hunting" is a cop out. It cheapens the right. It would be like free speech people saying "this is so you can watch porn." It isn't a right to entertain yourself, it's a right for every purpose connected to the activitiy.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I read about the DC Rat Relocation program. Virginians across the river are fearful that all the rats will be relocated there. Given the number of elected rats in DC, they have much to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I want to believe that your DC rat law (even with the "limits" mentioned in the comments) is satire or comedy or just wrong. But I know that our world has become screwy enough for it to be true, and that makes me sad.

Your rat line-up made me think about "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

I think that the Greek columns were more appropriate than anyone knew!!!! (just not how TOTUS thought...)

    ReplyDelete
  10. For quite a while, guns were OK if you hunted - to have them for any other purpose stirred up the moonbats and put you in the "survivalist / militia" Ruby Ridge camp.

I think that like so many other conversations that have become out-dated, many in the Republican establishment missed the new world we live in and are hanging on to the old.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The Greek columns would be awesome. Obama should definitely do them. And a uniform like Mussolini or a toga!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Jed, I haven't read it, but I am vaguely familiar with it. Obama = hubris is right, so is your formulation that Obama is style over substance... and look where that got us!

I agree that they are looking for anything to hurt Romney and again, let me point out that they are playing into Democratic rules in the process. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, SOPA really irks me, but it's no different than anything else they do in Congress.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Indi, LOL! So he's bringing together those who oppress the country with those who think they are oppressed by are really snotty rich kids! Wow, that is beautiful and almost brings a tear to my eyes! :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. T-Rav, I'm betting the unions will need to work overtime to fill the stadium and I'll bet you they end up covering around 50,000 seats with tarps (as compared to TARP).

I hear Blackburn is good, but she does keep ending up on the wrong side of these issues.

There are exceptions to the mice/rat rules, but they don't actually apply to the types of mice/rats found in the district. Also, get this, these rules only apply to professionals. So if you are untrained, then you can kill rats, but if you are professional then you can't. Doesn't that seem backwards to you? Doesn't that sound like it's more likely to guarantee pain and suffering?

    ReplyDelete
  15. tryanmax, So you're saying we shouldn't be surprised that Obama is a blatant hypocrite? LOL!

Also, I thought irony was defines as "rain on your wedding day"? (I hate that song!)

    ReplyDelete
  16. DUQ, That's right. It has an exception for the types of rats and mice normally found in homes, except the District has different species than are listed. Stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bev, I am hoping for hurricane force rain! :)

And yeah, he should crack out the Greek columns if he can part with them -- I understand they're in his bedroom along with the painting of himself on the ceiling.

Yeah, I think they all call themselves pest control at this point. They do around here at least. It doesn't sound as "harsh" as "exterminator."

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ed, I agree, it cheapens the right to turn it into activities. In other words, it's much broader than just a right to own guns so you can hunt. And if we treat it like a right to own guns to hunt, then people start arguing about what you really "need" to hunt and they mix the issue with whether or not they themselves hunt. That's bad.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Andrew, here's praying for ♪♫ Ray-ee-aaaain, on nomination day! ♪♫

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bev, I read an article where the Virginia Commonwealth's Attorney is pretty angry about this. DC says the experts told them the rats need to be moved 25 miles so they can't figure out how to come back, but it sounds like an attempt to make this Virginia's problem.

In the 1990s, they actually tried to dump prostitutes across the river as well, and that didn't go over so well.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lawhawk, I suspect that's the real reason for this -- to protect all those Congresscritters. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. rlaWTX, Breakfast at Tiffany's? I kept thinking Sinatra and the Rat Pack!

Yeah, sadly, this is reality and not satire. Isn't it incredible that we've gotten to the point where reality is more bizarre than satires?

Absolutely on the Greek columns. All he needed was a fiddle and a painting of Rome burning behind him as he read from the TOTUS.

    ReplyDelete
  23. rlaWTX, Very well said -- they have missed the fact that society has changed. The American people don't need an excuse to demand their rights anymore. They are rights and we own them, the end. We don't need to justify them -- be they the right to own guns, the right to free speech, or any other right.

Unfortunately, as you note, the Establishment still lives in a world where rights are privileges and where we need to explain ourselves to the government before we can have that. That needs to change. We need people in office who aren't afraid to say "this is a right and Americans have it, the end."

And we need to drop this silly theater where candidates need to cry, or kill a moose, or visit a factory to show they care about the right things. That's stupid and it demeans the public. We are not children who need to be handed placebos, we are adults who want responsible people to make the government run efficiently while maintaining and protecting our rights.

  28. Just an Aside

DC can make a law that saqys you have to trap the rates and relocate their entire family to Maryland buu--uut!!!

I don't think the street gangs that control the DC underground are actually going to go along with that... I know the answer you'll get from the mafia types...

    ReplyDelete

Interesting article. I would have loved to have seen a write-in vote select a Ryan of a Jindal!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Indi, I suspect the rats have too strong of a lobby to allow such a law to get through! ;)

Besides, in DC, it's not the street gangs who control the streets, it's the "constituents."

    ReplyDelete
  31. I too thought the rat law was meant to protect Congress. :D

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nah. But I'm unemotional and non-committed as you can tell, so maybe Dear Leader's "masterful leadership" and "incredible speaking" skills will sway me in time for re-election.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Tam, I saw that and I had to laugh. How delusional do you need to be to think that Obama is a "masterful speaker"? The only thing he's mastered is failure and how to upset people.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Andrew - I think we need to draw Tam out. She just seems so shy and unable to express her feelings about Obama. It concerns me...

That being said, if a Tea Partier had thrown smoke bombs over the fence at the White House. Obama could have been visiting Mars and The Secret Service would have arrested all of the TP's around the country and put us in Gitmo! To date, they have not arrested anyone of the Occupiers for the bombing. Now why is that do you suppose?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jed, I'm not surprised at all. He needs to placate his base and a big part of them are environmentalists. And it's much harder for the public to get upset about jobs that are never created than jobs that are lost. So killing this project makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tam - Ah, yes, that "new civility". I heard about that once.

  58. I came upon a list of supporters and opponents to the SOPA and PIPA legislation in Congress: LINK

As of this posting, it is slightly out of date because the blackout is causing sponsors to drop like flies. Still, if your CongressCritters aren’t in the “opposed” column, you should probably give them a call.

    ReplyDelete
  59. tryanmax, Thanks for the link. I'm seeing more and more people dropping their support. Rubio apparently supported it until today.

Hopefully, this will be a lesson in freedom for the Republicans and that the public won't turn a blind eye to these kinds of abuses.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Andrew,

I like that SOPA and PIPA are going down. It isn't any surprise that Reid still wants it. What is a surprise is that Rubio co-sponsored PIPA. He now doesn't want it to pass.

This seems to me a play to seem like they are doing something about ON-LINE piracy. The problem is always how they go about it. How about they only go after proven pirates? Use the laws that are on the books.

Also, Chris Dodd is making noises that Wikipedia and Craigslist are abusing their power. The only power Wikipedia and Craigslist have is to provide or not provide a service. Thankfully Dodd no longer is in power.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Chris Dodd is making noises that Wikipedia and Craigslist are abusing their power."

Joel - That's rich. This from the man who was chairman of the Senate Banking Committee who took sweetheart loans from now indicted bankers. What a hypocrite.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Joel, I find it a little disturbing that Rubio backed this as well. It makes me wonder about his instincts -- something I've never worried about with Allen West.

You're right about them using existing laws. But then, I don't think they really are worried about the pirates. I think they're worried about controlling the audiences.

Chris Dodd is an ass. Also, notice that what he describes as "power" is simply the ability to have their side be heard. Isn't it interesting that for a Democrat, "power" means simply not being oppressed by his side. That's messed up!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Bev, Those were gifts and had nothing to do with his willingness to abuse power to help his friends. It's completely unfair to connect that!

    //rolls eyes

I think it's really sick that Dodd would assert that being allowed to make a statement with which he agrees is "an abuse of power." What a window into his little totalitarian mind!
