Question: Who Would You Choose?

Dear readers, today we ask your opinion. Imagine that we have no President. . . it’s easy if you try. A replacement must be found, and you have been called upon to choose. But there’s a catch. You have to pick from the world of cartoons. Tell us what cartoon character you would choose to become our President, and why.

Should you choose Scooby Doo for his problem solving skills, or Droopy Dog and his steady hand? Noted industrialist Scrooge McDuck? Bill the Cat, is he where it’s at? Batman’s tough on crime, but Mickey Mouse has friends around the world. Wiley Coyote defines persistence, but we already have Joe Biden? You make the call . . . just tell us why!

Donald Duck - I don't see anything wrong with a president who the rest of the world is just a little scared of.

Don't piss off Donald Duck, yo. Dude is nuts!

Mike, I can get behind the "pants optional" law that Donald will undoubtedly force into law, LOL.

This question really has me pondering. It made me realize that I've never really considered what *I* would choose in a president. I'm always presented with my choices and make the best decision from those. But given the chance to build my own, what do I want?

I want a president who is conservative and believes in smaller government, naturally. Beyond that, though, I want someone who is independent enough to stand up for his convictions, yet personable and likable. So...

Snoopy.

All-American, war veteran, comes with his own White House and cabinet of small birds who worship him. Independent enough to leave the group and do his own thing, friendly enough that everyone wants him around. Not about to install helmet laws for everyone because Charlie is too stupid to stop trying to kick that football.

I'd start a Ronald Reagan cartoon, and make Ronald Reagan president! :)

Superman, "fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way." "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive" Hard to beat all that.

I agree, Superman wins. Old school Superman, not the new guy, who looks good, but is a bit of a wuss.

I like the strength of Superman, but the libertarian in me is concerned that he operates outside the law and shows a lack of respect for the Constitution, particularly the 4th Amendment. X-ray vision puts "unreasonable search and seizure" into a different light.

Besides, isn't he an illegal alien? ;)

StlDan and JG, While I love the idea of Superman, let us not forget that he is an alien. . . and possibly an illegal alien? ;-)

Mike, I too think that the world should be a little scared of our President (though I am troubled by the no pants thing).

CrispyRice, Snoopy is a true American, though his public speaking needs work.

LoneWolf, I love the idea of Reagan!

Good choices all!

The more I think about this question, the more interesting it becomes.

As CrispyRice points out, for once, we are asked to decide what makes a good President, rather than just being asked to choose between two or three narrow candidates. And that's an interesting exercise.

So what am I looking for in a president. I don't care if he's liked. But he needs to be respected. He needs to have principle and be unafraid to stand on those principles. I want him to be clever and wise and capable, but also to trust us to find our own way. I don't want a President who feels the need to do everything for us.

And that leads me to Hobbes, the tiger from Calvin and Hobbes.

(And if he's not available, I will vote in my petulant frustration for Bender from Futurama. Now there is a robot the rest of the world would fear -- but of course, so would we.)

I keep waiting for the Barack Obama Teleprompter to write a book or comic book. The teleprompter would make a great cartoon character and he's way smarter than the President.

Aside from the Teleprompter. I always liked Tweety Bird. She was smaller than the cat but more cunning. I'm pretty sure she could take President Obama, if necessary.

In these troubled times, we need a President who doesn't waffle and wonder. We need a President who has solutions. Therefore, I nominate "Felix the Cat, the wonderful, wonderful cat. Whenever he gets in a fix, he reaches into his bag of tricks." Voila, problems solved.

Opus. Can't help but like him and that's the most important thing for a president - to be liked, right?

Hmmm, tough one. Maybe Professor X from X-Men (he was a cartoon before a movie character). He could automatically know what someone else is thinking (though he'd probably be too ethical to use that power) and he'd be sure to appoint some interesting people to his cabinet.

I don't know yet who (or what) I would choose TO be President, but I am pretty sure we have all the characters in Dilbert running the government now...

Khassie said...

My husband votes for Opus because "he understands the secret of the dandelion and plays a mean tuba."

BevfromNYC said...

Okay, nobody said this, but - about the whole "no pants" thing with Donald Duck. Didn't we already do that with Clinton? And look how that turned out Okay I said it...

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, you are absolutely right about the no pants thing and Clinton. And don't forget, we already did the whole Wiley E. Coyote master of failure thing with Jimmy Carter.

AndrewPrice said...

Khassie, Opus was great. And didn't he already run for VP with Bill the Cat?

BevfromNYC said...

Mallard Fillmore for President!

It's an interesting question to think about but after reading many of the would be great cartoon presidents, I'm going with G.I. Joe.

We need a good old American hero right about now.
YO JOE !!

Should Joe not make it through the primaries I'm open to any of the other candidates. (perhaps not the illegal alien though)

Well blow me down! I'm surprised no one picked Popeye. Popeye don't take no guff offa no bullies, and that's very Reaganesque.

BTW, I always thought Wile E. always got a bad rap. As a lawyer you should know it's the defective products of the ACME company that caused the vast majority of problems for Mr. Coyote.
Wile E. sure could've used your services for all sorts of damages (and personal injuries) grieviously inflicted upon him and the American southwest due to the gross negligence of ACME.

And comparing him to Carter? You're just askin' for a slander suit right there. :^)

PS- My second choice for prez would be Underdog. Why? Two words: poetic justice.

USS Ben, I think you're right about Wiley E. Coyote -- his ideas weren't bad, it was his suppliers!
