Commentarama Polls: Grade Obama

Let's do some polling. Now that we've declared Obama a failure, it seems that everyone else is piling on -- even Saturday Night Live. Help us fill out his report card.

Leave your thoughts below. Also, if you have any polling questions you'd like to suggest, leave those as well.

  1. To be semi fair to Barry I don’t like any liberal, hell …Rino McCain would be almost as bad, he’d probably piss me off more because he’s supposed to be on our team.

  2. Stan, That's why I also asked what you think the other side is thinking. When they ask people "what do you think your neighbor thinks" they often get a better look at public opinion than they do when they ask "what do you think."

  3. I didn't have high expectations for President Obama but he isn't even meeting the low expectations that I set. In other words, I knew he'd be bad for the country but I didn't realize he'd be this bad. One thing I will say for some of my liberal friends: They are just as disappointed but perhaps for different reasons.

  4. Writer X, I think the fact that SNL made fun of Obama tells us that many on the left are very upset at him right now. They were expecting a lot (which makes sense on the surface -- big majorities in both houses), but they've gotten nothing yet (though not for lack of trying).

  6. Patti, I agree, it was tame. But still, could you have imagined them being anything but glowing about him five months ago? Back then, you made an Obama joke at your peril.

  7. Well, if you go back to your post about Democrats, they are a truly fractious lot so it would only be fitting their opinions would be all over the place. The economy was a rather late issue and tended to hurt the incumbant party. I think most people thought Obama would 1) get us out of Iraq 2) repair our image around the globe 3) "fix" healthcare 4) reduce dependence on oil, e.g. go green. I think center left Democrats are appalled at the profligate spending and have found Obama to be much further left than they bargained for.

  8. Jed, I agree. At the same time, I suspect that the hard left is really mad at him because he hasn't delivered on a single promise to them either -- no gun control, no gay benefits, no cap and trade, nothing.

I guess, I'm saying that I'm not sure anyone is really happy with him?

  9. Absolutely, Andrew-- although to be fair, it is a job which, by definition, is impossible to please everybody. Still, Obama set new standards for over-hyping himself during the campaign and the bar was irrevocably set impossibly high, so I can't feel particularly sorry for him. (An opinion no doubt exacerbated by the fact I am politically polar opposites with him

  10. Jed, I really appreciate the fact that you recognize that your opinion might be colored by your dislike -- Stan above as well.

That shows a great sense of self-awareness and a very rational mind. :-)

  11. The best two questions you asked, and the most revealing, were: Who is happiest and unhappiest about Obama’s performance.

I selected the far right and far left respectively. Echoing Rush Limbaugh’s sentiment, the far right is most thrilled because he is failing big time. The far left thinks the guy has betrayed them. This is the pitfall when a president begins governing from an extreme position without results: No one is happy.

  12. Hink, I think those are the best questions as well. And I think you're right about how he's angered people. By talking like a hard core leftist, he's angered everyone on the right. But then by failing to deliver, he's angered his own side. I guess this goes down to the old saying, don't make promises you can't keep.

  13. Cool poll. I love the "who's happy with him question." I think that says a lot about how people view him.

  14. Thanks Mega. Like I said above, you often get better information when you ask people what someone else thinks than what they think. I'm hoping to summarize the polls in an upcoming article.
