Allen West’s “Gaffes”

Having failed to make Santorum the nominee (and with Ricky now dropping out of the race), the MSM is now trying to destroy various Republican VP candidates before Romney makes his choice. Last weekend, Politico took a shot at Rep. Allen West by listing his ten biggest “gaffes.” Of course, these were not gaffes, they were just things liberal do not want to hear. Let’s look at some of West’s finest moments:

1. The Right Principles: Allen West espouses all the right principles. West summarizes these nicely in several of his supposed gaffes.
● Here is West describing the economic foundations of America while attacking the Democrats for undermining them. To Obama, Reid and Pelosi, he says: “Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America.”

● West has also made the same point more positively: “This is what America is about when it comes to understanding that it is equal opportunity versus equal achievement. Each and every one of us has the opportunity for greatness in this country.”

● And here is West explaining why he supports the Tea Party. Notice the reference to limited, constitutional government: “I think that if we get back to some basic fundamental principles, we can make sure that we resolve the issues. And I think that that's what the Tea Party was all about. It's getting back to a constitutional conservative government. And that is limited, but it's also effective and efficient. I think that that's what we'll be able to do.”
2. A Fighter Not A Lover: West also has a strong track record of fighting back against the Democratic smear/propaganda machine. Here are a few more of his “gaffes.”
● First, West is clear that the Democratic party is bad for blacks and others who get trapped in the dependence the Democrats hope to engender: “So I’m here as the modern day Harriet Tubman to kind of lead people on the Underground Railroad away from that plantation into a sense of sensibility.”

● He also makes no bones about the Democrats' willingness to lie and cheat and use any means to smear and destroy those with whom they disagree: “If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the [Democratic] Party because they have an incredible propaganda machine.” This one really got the left upset, but if the jackboot fits....

● He has fought back against that vile Gollum-like create Debbie Wasserman Shits. . . er, Schultz, whose hateful public pronouncement would actually have made Goebbels blush. Indeed, he called her “the most vile, unprofessional, and despicable” member of the House. Then he added, “You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, and therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!”

● And when he was later asked what he thinks whenever Shultz’s name is mentioned, he said this: “I need a bucket.”

● Lastly, he gave us this one which I think of as “speaking truth to the power-mad”: “I must confess, when I see anyone with an Obama 2012 bumper sticker, I recognize them as a threat to the gene pool.”
What’s more, Allen hasn’t been blinded by the mob over the past two years like so many others. He’s recognized that you can’t play “take it or leave” in our form of government, and he’s recognized that you can’t build anything by destroying the Republican Party. He has proven to be a savvy operator and yet has maintained his principles. We need more Republicans like this.

BONUS ROUND: Here are some of Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s recent quotes:

● On Paul Ryan’s budget: “As a result, many seniors in America will be forced into poverty, and worse. Some seniors will end up dying because they are forced to put off getting that pain checked out due to huge out-of-pocket costs that will skyrocket for them. This plan would literally be a death trap for some seniors.”

● Calling ObamaCare “ObamaCare” is “a disparaging reference to the President of the United States.”

● Schultz said it would “belittle” minorities to extend hate crimes laws to veterans: “It really is belittling of the respect that we should have for [minorities] to suggest that members of the armed services have somehow systematically been the victims of hate crimes.”

● She held a rally to attack Allen West (before his election). At the time, she explained the difference between her crowd and the Tea Party thusly: “I don’t see any swastikas or any pictures of the President in black face or burned in effigy here. The difference between the way we express our First Amendment rights and the way I’ve seen Tea Party extremists—Republican Tea Party extremists—express their right is dramatically different.” So the “difference is different?” Bright.

● Then she despicably tried to latch onto the Giffords shooting by dragging her own daughter into it, and by trying to define the Giffords shooting as a result of Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law: “After my daughter heard that, you know, Gabby had been shot, the first thing she asked me was, you know, ‘Mommy, are you going to get shot? Does that mean you're going to get shot? But Mommy, Florida's going to pass an immigration law like Arizona and then people are going to be mad at you.’”

She’s a real piece of shitzu poo.

Before I read the comments, I see that Rick Sanotrum has withdrawn! Yeah! Ding dong, the dipsh*t's gone!

Allen West is my favorite Republicans. I love his bluntness, especially because he's not stupidly blunt. He says the right things with the right amount of force. He doesn't just shoot off him mouth, he doesn't use the wrong words, and he's not afraid of a fight.

AndrewPrice said...

Doc, He's out of the race, but he's not gone. Rick's concession speak was packed with threats to stick around make problems. He still thinks he's on a mission and he expects to be the nominee next time (which he would very much like to be 2016).

West is a favorite of mine too for the very reasons you mention. He's extremely bright, he's savvy, he's highly conservative, and he's not afraid. What a great combo!

Doc Whoa said...

Debbie Schultz, on the other hand, is a real turd. If the Democrats had any integrity (ha!) they would have unloaded her years ago.

Anonymous said...

I missed a couple of West's gaffes, but I'm glad you filled me in. As for Debbie Wasserman-Schitz, I never miss her comments. They're like shots of adrenalin.

Joel Farnham said...

Debbie hates West because he isn't her husband. That's my guess.

AndrewPrice said...

Doc, She is a first class turd. She is a ball of ugly hate who is willing to say anything to advance her agenda. No lie is too vile.

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, That they are. Every time she speaks, she angers me.

West, on the other hand, is awesome. Every time he speaks, I cheer!

Doc Whoa said...

Andrew, Do you think he'll endorse Romney?

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I think Debbie hates West because he's the enemy. Anyone who doesn't belong to the liberal mental collective is the enemy in her world.

I find it particularly galling that she thinks it's acceptable to insert her daughter into the Giffords situation. What a sick human being.

Ed said...

Let me second the "glad he's gone" camp. Why do you think he's not gone gone?

DUQ said...

I love Allen West! He's my favorite Republican, even before Paul Ryan. I would love to see him as VP.

Joel Farnham said...

Andrew,

You took what I said seriously? Dude, Debbie Water-Carrier for Sh!ts, drank the socialist koolaid prior to showing up in Washington. I am surprised she has a child. Oh, and before you actually think her child said that, get a Child Psychologist, a lawyer, and a detective with a lie detector equipment to deposition her kid. Anything this half-orc says should be subjected to the full cross-exam treatment.

As an aside, are you going to go through all the possible VPs?

AndrewPrice said...

Doc, I don't think he will endorse Romney, no. I think he will talk about uniting, but will never actually endorse -- his supporters will pretend it was an endorsement.

I also suspect (fear) that he will try to run an independent campaign against Obama -- not "AS AN" independent, but will run his own campaign against Obama "on behalf of/in parallel to" Romney's. His reasoning will be to raise issues that the party ignored (like very noxious social issues), but his real goal will be to see Romney lose so he can run in 2016.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I think he's not gone-gone because his goal wasn't to win the election. That was kind of the fantasy goal of the last couple months. His real goal is to push the Tea Party influence back out of the party and to raise up the Religious Right again as the dominant group within the party. He wants to see the Republicans become Focus on the Family.

BevfromNYC said...

Wasserman-Schultz does not like Alan West because he is a very confident and intelligent Republican Black man who refuses to go back to the Democratic plantation from whence he should be. And because he isn't afraid of her and isn't cowering under her word-whips. He speaks the truth right back at them, so he is a threat to their propaganda. Because as we all know, there are no Black Republicans and especially not any Black Teaparty Republicans.

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, I would be thrilled to death if Romney choose West. I don't think he will, but it would just thrill me to no end!

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I figured you were being facetious.

No, I don't believe for a minute that DWS's child said that. I'm 100% certain that was a lie manufactured by DWS to try to latch onto the Gifford shooting and gain sympathy.

I could go through the VP choices if people want. They're pretty good people all around. As I see it, we've got West, Haley, Ryan, Rubio, Martinez, Christie. Am I missing anyone?

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Well said! I think that's 100% right. West represents the proof which exposes the Democrats in their "big lie." He is the proof that Republicans aren't racist. He is the proof that blacks can be conservatives, that blacks don't need the government's help to get ahead, that blacks care about economics like the rest of us and not just victimization, and that life is so much better off the Democratic plantation.

What's more, he's extremely intelligent, well-spoken, and not at all afraid of her bag of tricks.

So he must be destroyed before he ruins everything!

T-Rav said...

Andrew, I heard a few people throwing Jindal's name around. Which would be interesting, given his expertise in the health-care arena. Also, some people are talking about OH Gov. Rob Portman, which I don't understand at all.

I'm starting to revise my opinion on Ryan as VP. I still think he could do infinitely more good where he is, but he's been claiming that at least a dozen Democratic senators would be willing to support his Medicare plan. Who knows, maybe he has the connections and tenacity to push stuff through in the Senate as well as the House. Plus, you know, once Romney's out of office....

T-Rav said...

And for the record, I'm through talking about this Santorum thing in any regard. I prefer to just sit here and quietly smolder.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Smolder away. Hopefully, we are done with Ricky after today.

AndrewPrice said...

I'm not sure I follow your comment above. Are you saying you want to see Ryan as the VP now?

There is the question of what happens after Romney is out of office, that's true. But if we're lucky, that won't happen for 8 years. I'm just not convinced the VP slot is the best thing for his talents. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him as the P at some point, but I would rather see him running the House or the budget rather than be the VP. Or if Romney does take him on, he needs to make it clear that Ryan will run his budget task force or something like that.

I hadn't heard the thing about the Democrats supporting his Medicare reforms, but that would be interesting. I think even the Democrats know something needs to be done.

Joel Farnham said...

Ah, too bad. I was kinda hoping you would try to vet Palin. I don't think she will accept VP slot again. There is too much difference between her and Romney. Also, I find it disturbing that she would endorse and vote for Newt. Hmmmm. Oh well.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I honestly can't see him picking Palin. Last I knew, she was still pushing Newt -- and that was like last week.

I found it strange that she would endorse Newt as well. I really don't understand that because he represents everything she's trying to claim she's not a part of? If she was going to endorse anyone, it should have been Cain. And she probably would have been better off not picking sides this time.

Speaking of Cain, he is apparently endorsing Romney now.

(P.S. I'll add Jindal to the list.)

Ed said...

Joel, I was disturbed too that she choose Newt. That made no sense to me?

Ed said...

Bev is right about Schultz. Schults HATES West and I think that's the reason - he disproves everything she believes.

BevfromNYC said...

Dear God, please not Palin. I would have to hit myself in the head over and over. No offense to any Palin supporters, but I'd rather eat scorpions while sitting a a vat of snakes than endure that. It's going to be bad enough as it is. (too harsh?)

Joel Farnham said...

Ed,

I was just thinking over her endorsements and they don't make sense. Unless, what she sees is what the candidates used to be, and not about them "going native in Washington", that is to say they have become Washington insiders. Still, she did endorse Allen West for Vice. .....

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, LOL! That is an hilarious image! :)

In all seriousness though, I know what you mean. Palin would be a huge mistake and I can't see Romney even considered her. I think he wants someone who will bring a strong Tea Party (and minority) influence, but he also wants somebody proven on the national stage without an enemies list thicker than a dozen phone books.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I think Bev is exactly right about DWS. West is everything she wants people to believe can't exist. He's her version of a unicorn... or a vampire, and she is afraid that he will ruin generations of propaganda.

That's also why they've been so brutal about Clarence Thomas -- because they don't want anyone getting a whiff of reality from him.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, Her endorsements have always troubled me. It was like they were random. Sometimes she picked the conservative, sometimes she picked the insider. And apparently she usually did it without even speaking to the candidates. I saw no consistency there. Or if there is a pattern, I couldn't see it.

T-Rav said...

Andrew, no, I don't want Ryan as VP--I still think it should have been either the top spot or he keeps his House seat--but if he does become the running mate, then I won't have a problem with it. He'd be better in the House, but he might have more strengths as VP, despite its largely ceremonial role, than we think. That's all I'm saying.

rlaWTX said...

I saw a headline that West had come out on the knee-jerk side of the Zimmerman-Martin situation, but I hadn't followed that one up.
I decided not to worry about it much because everything that I KNOW he has said has been so awesomely straight on, whack-you-upside-the-head good.

as for that other person... whatever (said in the best snotty 14yo girl voice your imagination can muster).

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Ah. I agree with that. I think he would be better served as the P or in the House. But if chosen, I would not freak out or anything. That said, I would very much hope he would be given more responsibility than the VP normally gets.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, I haven't heard anything about West's take on the Zimmerman/Martin shooting. It's possible though, depending on when he spoke, that the facts pointed to something different than what we are looking at now?

I think if you take the issue of race out of it, then it does become a close call whether Zimmerman should have been there in the first place.

And when NBC first aired the edited 911 call, it did sound like it was a race crime (if that is what West said).

So the short answer is, I don't know what he said, but I trust his judgment until and unless proven otherwise. I guess I should look into that though?

Notawonk said...

west is an american hero and she is the dirt on his kickass boots.

saw ryan this morning on the today show and had a good laugh as ann curry tried her best to rattle him while giving a msm stink-eye. he was calm as he deliberately tore down barry and his policies. loved it.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX,

Here is Allen initially (right after the shooting):

George Zimmerman, in his role as neighborhood watch of a gated suburban community in Florida, had “no authorization” to take action against 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) told TPM Friday. “This is a self-made head of a community neighborhood watch. That’s where my concern is.”

Hardly a bomb-throwing comment.

And here he gives an update on his view of the case:

I have sat back and allowed myself time to assess the current episode revealing itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit.

From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him….against the direction of the 911 responder. Let’s all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

And here he condemns the Black Panthers and their bounty:

I vehemently condemn the bounty poster emanating from the New Black Panther Party putting a $10,000 ransom up for the capture of George Zimmerman and call upon the US Department of Justice to prosecute their actions, clearly a hate crime. We have seen this type of abhorrent behavior from this group previously in 2008 as part of a voter intimidation action, it is reprehensible. To openly solicit for the death of an American citizen, with reward, is not in keeping with the laws of due process which governs this Constitutional Republic. However, this is to be expected when irrational voices dominate our public dialogue and are fueled by an ideological driven media. I am concerned that that the tragic death of Trayvon Martin is being hijacked by malcontents.

AndrewPrice said...

Patti, You've been beating the West drum for some time and I very much appreciate that! He needs a lot more exposure.

"the MSM stink eye"! LOL! I love it!

Ed said...

Joel and Andrew, I don't understand her endorsements either. At first, I thought she was endorsing conservatives. But she wasn't. Then I thought it was women. But it wasn't that either. Now I just don't know?

T-Rav said...

I was pretty critical of Zimmermann myself in the immediate aftermath of the crime, so I don't see anything bad about this statement. As more information came out, my stance changed; I have no doubt his did as well.

As for West as VP, my only knock on him is the same one I have against Rubio. I don't feel he's had enough experience on the national scene to put him in such a high position. Would he do well there? Probably. But I'd feel better if our guy has a longer resume. That said, I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if he became VP (though I think it's rather unlikely).

T-Rav said...

patti, I probably need to watch that video, if for no other reason than I can't stand Ann Curry, and it'll be nice to see her shut down.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, My first thought was also highly critical of Zimmerman. But I've learned throughout the years to always wait for the second wave of news because you can't trust the MSM. And that's when things started to fall apart for the racist-white-hunter narrative -- in the second wave. But I can't blame anyone for being shocked by the initial news reports.

What I love about what he says above is that he wants everyone to be calm and rational and investigate before jumping to conclusions. That tells me he's a bright, bright man who understand how things should work -- even if they don't always.

On him becoming VP, I would bet against it because there appears to be bad blood between the West and Romney camps.

In terms of someone with more experience, that would lean toward Jindal. But the thing West has, which Jindal doesn't, is "attack doggie-ness." West has proven in a series of national skirmishes that he excels at the verbal fighting the VP job entails. So far, Jindal has failed in that one department.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed and Joel, I have no answer on that point because I don't understand it either?

AndrewPrice said...

Come on T-Rav, what did Ann Curry or the other leftists on that show ever do to you. . . except repeatedly slander you and everything you believe it?

Patti said...

t-rav: i can't stand ann and to see ryan above her tactics was delish!

rlaWTX said...

Thanks, Andrew. I kept meaning to search it out, but finally decided not to worry about it much.

The comment/headline that I saw made it sound much more inflammatory that.

I think that given our options, someone who is only a little light in political experience is a pretty good choice. Esp. when they have other real-world experience instead (which weighs things more toward West, I guess) ["only ... experience = as opposed to other obvious flaws or lack of interest]

BevfromNYC said...

I don't have a problem with West commenting on the Zimmerman/Martin issue. He is a Rep from Florida and has a vested interest in the laws of Florida and how they are prosecuted.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, That's very true. It was much more relevant to him than it is to someone from say... the White House via Chicago. Also, his comments seemed focused on the state of the law and weren't "off with their heads" type comments, they were seeking investigations.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, You're welcome. It doesn't seem all that inflammatory, but you know how the net gets -- everything is an outrage or crisis.

Unless I remember this incorrectly, West has 22 years of military service as an officer, he's one of the first Tea Party people, and he's proven to be a savvy Representative in only two years. That's a pretty solid record. Granted, he's not as familiar yet with the system as someone like Ryan, but for the VP slot, I think personality is more important than policy-knowledge. And even on policy, West has shown that he has a fundamentally conservative way of thinking plus a savvy grasp of how to get things done in Washington.

Tennessee Jed said...

I wish I could be a little more adult about this, but Wasserman-Schultz is so incredibly vile to me on so many levels that it is more "politique" for me to curb my tongue. So I'll go on record as saying "she should absolutely NOT be waterboarded." Some things are just wrong. West is the superior human being in all ways, though.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, It is hard to be political about DWS. She truly is a vile human being. If history remembers her, it should be alongside the vilest, most shameful of propagandists.

Totally agree about West being a superior human being in all ways. He is a class act. She is the opposite of that.

StanH said...

Now you’re talking, Allen West. This guy is great! The problem he would eclipse Romney in attitude, but that would be a good ying to his yang? As you all probably know Mitt, Rick, Ron, Newt, were not my first choice he was lynched by establishment Washington. But now that it’s Romney, it’s time to rally, and fix the mistake of ’08! Allen West would be a great motivator for conservative America, IMO, Tea Partiers…me, ha.

Funny how a bunch of racist homophobes ~sarc~ pick two black guys as their choice, Herman Cain, now West?

I still say Rubio, will be the choice.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, I think West would bring instant conservative excitement to the ticket. He would be an excellent choice. But like you, I suspect the choice will be Rubio.

It is funny, isn't it, that all us racists would so happily choose Cain or West? Either something is wrong with us, or the liberal narrative that we're all racists just isn't true.

StanH said...

Guys, I was going back and forth with someone this AM, DWS was trying to carry the banner for, “The War On Women!!!” …vomit! I retorted, “with a mug like that she don’t need no contraception.” Like everyone to be cheeky towards a woman, as a Southerner I do not engage, but damn that woman is detestable, Allen West is correct on all counts.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, I can't blame you. Remaining civil in the face of a hateful lunatic is nearly impossible and she fits that bill perfectly.

CrisD said...

hi Andrew! So Santorum is out! hahaha! (I just got homr from work.....)
Anyhow, I like Rubio for vice-pres. But let me ask you, isn't that usually personally picked by a presidential candidate...or at least personally okayed?

AndrewPrice said...

Cris, Yes, he's finally out. Let's hope he goes away now. I don't even care if he endorses Romney, just so he goes away.

On the VP, yes, it's entirely up to Romney. The VP needs to be approved at the convention, but for the most part that's just a formality. So Romney could pick anyone. I think he'll pick Rubio. But what the MSM is doing now is trying to pre-smear each of the possible candidates. So far they've smeared Rubio, Haley and now West. I'm not sure who they are trying to promote yet (probably Ricky), but it won't work. I'm sure Romney's already made up his mind.

T-Rav said...

I think it's a good sign that, really, we would all be happy with any of the potential VP candidates Romney eventually picks. (Except Christie.)

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I do too. I think it means we have a strong "junior team". Even Christie wouldn't bother me, EXCEPT I don't want him eventually becoming President unless he makes a remarkable, immediately, sustained drift to the right. Plus, I think a minority would be the better choice in this election.

tryanmax said...

Of course, these were not gaffes, they were just things liberal do not want to hear.

Well put! I will now read the article! :)

AndrewPrice said...

I'm glad I passed your test! ;)

CrisD said...

Oh yeah, Andrew, and Nicki Haley is the MOST smeared- they practically have her behind bars!

AndrewPrice said...

Cris, I know they were speculating about her being indicted the other day and I can't even figure out what she supposedly did?

CrisD said...

She has paperwork violations on donations. The Dems brought the charges forward but some think its internal GOP SC politics.
But it's obvious SHE would have liked to run with Romney. The rest of the boys down there liked Newt.

tryanmax said...

Great collection of quotes. I predict that somewhere in the future, perhaps 1000 years hence, the words "gaffe" and "truth" will by synonymous, LOL!

On possible VPs: the major asset Romney has is that he is unflappable and he will need a VP that is equally so. Romney is also rather hard to make fun of; comedians try to paint him as Thurston Howell III, but it just doesn't fit. Romney should have a VP that is also difficult to lampoon. (Note: I do not say "impossible.")

Of the names already mentioned, I'd say any of them would be good picks. Christie may be a softer target than the rest, but fat jokes only cut so deep. (I realize that's almost a fat joke itself.) If I had my druthers, I'd like to see a minority or female picked. Yes, it's identity politics, to which I reply, "To every thing, there is a season."

(turn, turn, turn)

AndrewPrice said...

Cris, Last I heard, this wasn't even true -- it was a rumor started by the same blogger who lied about her sleeping with him. What a mess SC can be?

It will be interesting to see what happens.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I also suspect that fat jokes will anger an increasingly well-rounded public. ;)

I've seen several attempts now to lampoon Romney and none of them have worked. He's just too bland to be a good target. And you're right, if Romney added someone who was easy to lampoon, that would wipe out his greatest asset.

T-Rav said...

Making fun of someone for being "boring" is not exactly a death blow, in my experience. I could think of much worse than "boring."

Anonymous said...

Andrew, you passed my test as well. Good read.

I didn't get into the Commentarama game until about six weeks ago (but I used to occasionally post on BigHollywood a few years ago, and remember a lot of those who comment here), so I'm a little behind on who supports who for President. I was one of those who wanted Cain (I like West too!), and was so upset at the sexual harassment crap that I made phone call, which even got on the air. I totally had to stop what I was doing to wait my turn. At least my boss (me) couldn't fire me.

As far as VP pick, I don't have anything else to add.

Jen

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Boring is really hard to mock fun of, especially over time. That's why they've been desperate to find something else. But they won't find it with him. Romney is just not the kind of guy who has skeletons in his closet.

AndrewPrice said...

Jen, Thanks! We have different opinions about who to support around here, but that's fine. We want everyone to be able to speak their minds.

I totally wanted Cain as well and it really angered me that so many conservatives let him get torn apart without coming to his defense. I think that was a shameful moment in conservatism.

But all in all, I think Romney will win and I think we will all be surprised at how well he does. I don't have a lot of proof for that (and T-Rav doubts me entirely) but I think Romney is much more conservative than we've been led to believe. (Though I still would have preferred Cain.)

Thanks for joining us! We're glad you're here! :)

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

Excellent post, Andrew!

If those statements West made are gaffes I hope he makes a lot more of them, lol.

Another thing I like about West is that he understands the danger that fundamental Islam poses.
I've seen him reply to people who have challenged him over his views (that are based on a lot of experience, re: reality) and completely demolish their Chamberlain-like (give peace a chance, the terrorists will listen to reason) arguments.

It's encouraging to see, because many republicans either don't understand the real dangers fundy Islam represents or are too timid and afraid of being accused of Islamaphobia.

Allen West has done his homework and he's the real deal (he gets it). And he won't let the hysterical leftist name callers set their idiotic narratives without a fight!

On the Treyvor/Zimmerman comments: I saw some commenters at other sites try to compare West's comments to Santorum's (Ricky was convinced Zimmerman should be charged with first degree murder (very idiotic, especially for a lawyer).

Apparently, those commenters have a serious reading comprehension problem.
West also made the caveat that IF the media reports were accurate...
But even if he hadn't said that his remarks were nothing like Ricky's and barely objectionable.
At any rate, West stresses the importance of due process, in this case and in the case of the Black Panthers who get away with inciting violence and interfering with due process and justice because that's the way Holder and Obama rolls.
To them, Obama's reelection is far more important than justice.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, Thanks! West does indeed understand the dangers Islamic fundamentalism poses to the world. I've heard him talk about that as well. And you are right, he defends his positions expertly on that, rather than cowering in the corner as so many others do. But he's also not idiot about it and doesn't assume that all Muslims are at war with us. . . know thy enemy.

West really is an all-around great conservative: he gets the principles, he can apply them, he's not afraid to say them, and he "gets" politics and knows he has to stand up for what he believes.

There is no comparison to West and Santorum on Trayvon. West's comments called for an investigation and cautioned people to remain calm. He has also been fair about both sides and condemned the Black Panthers. Santorum rushed to a television camera and declared Zimmerman guilty. He never once suggested that the facts needed to be investigated before sentence could be passed. Ricky just took the bait and never thought twice.

West is awesome.

It's no wonder that the men West commanded in the Army respected and liked him so much.

I served under a Captain that was like West: a true leader who didn't hafta demand respect, he earned it.

As with any true leader, we knew, as West's men knew, that our CO would tell it like it is and stand up for his crew.
Needless to say, whether one is a squid or a grunt, we would literally give everything we have for special leaders like West because we know that leaders like that have our backs and then some!

Ben, You can see that in West. I'm not someone who assumes that all officers are good people because I know better. There are good officer, average officers and bad officers. Everything about West tells me that he was a good officer who won the respect of those around him, and that comes shining through now. I truly hope he rises fast in our party!

Andrew, thanks for the warm welcome, and to everyone for not ignoring me (by not having a Blogger profile for example)! LawHawk as been real helpful as well.

I really enjoy reading the intelligent comments, unlike what I have seen elsewhere. My only regret is that I didn't find this blog sooner!!! I don't get to spend much time online, so there are a lot of things I don't do, or don't know how to do (the blogging thing, Twitter, Facebook, etc., for example). So, I just wing it, and try to do a workaround when necessary.

I also want to refer back to your article on "Liberals are not smartier than Conservatives". I had a talk with the guy I mentioned in my comment (my sister calls him "Professor ___"-I won't put in his name). It was something he said that may be a clue as to how liberals see themselves. I may just be grasping at straws, but, who knows. It will be just a tad bit too long to post here, and I don't have the time anyway. If I get a chance, I might just email it to you, if that's okay. Maybe someone else has figured this out too.

Thanks again, Jen

Welcome Aboard Jen! :^)

Commentarama is a rare gem in the conservative blogger community and I'm slso glad to have found these guys via Big Hollywood (the early years).

This blog has among the best writers and commenters I have seen.
I actually get bummed out if I miss an episode.

United Citizens Council:

I'll be the first to admit that Mitt ain't the ideal conservative candidate, however I do think he's much better than ObaMao and with very likely Supreme Court picks coming up in the next 4 years I would feel better with Romney at the helm than our current socialist in chief.

I also believe that the fight to get more principled conservatives elected will be a process that takes several years and a lot of work.
But I do believe it can be done.

It might help to know that Mitt will most likely go along with a more conservative House (and hopefully, Senate) as President.
I don't really think he will try to make any waves or try to get Congress to move left.

Andrew wrote a good article about this awhile back...can't seem to find it at the moment but he will no doubt link it if your interested.
Long story short, Romney is more conservative than he's been made out to be.

Not ideal but again, much better than our Alinsky loving current President that thumbs his nose at our Constitution.

Jen, You're welcome. We're happy to have you! Sorry to hear you're having problems with the blogger account. Blogger can be surprisingly difficult.

We've talked a bit around here that liberals are big on projection -- they project their own worst traits onto conservatives and then see themselves as flawless. Please feel free to comment or e-mail anything you wish to add! :)

Thanks Ben! I'm glad you're back! :)

Jen, Glad to have you! You'll like it here. This is the first place I've found where I feel like the people I've met online are genuine friends. None of us have any troll-food either, so they tend to stay away.

I like Allen West, but on Hannity yesterday he said (again), something very similar to the quote in an above post: Zimmerman "certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit." Please, innocent until proven guilty...

There is an article that claims Allen West said there were 80 House Democrats masquerading as Communists. Wait a second. Reverse that. Eighty Communists masquerading as House Democrats. That is, "He's Heard". Uhn huh.... The author never once quoted West by verbatim. He also said that West refused to name names.

Oh, the author? Jonathan Matisse. A multi-media journalist. [Side question: What is a multi-media journalist? Does that mean, some of his stuff gets put in the paper? Or does it mean he also has pictures.] He first worked in Pennsylvania. Now he works in Florida.

Andrew,

Is this akin to "Have you stopped beating your wife questions? Just asking.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I haven't seen the article yet, but it sounds like a typical leftist-blogger smear. The lack of quote is telling, as is the lack of audio. I take it they also didn't bother asking West to confirm/deny/clarify?

This sounds like part of the liberal smear machine to bring West down before Romney makes his decision.

My guess, if West did say something like this, is that a critical word has been omitted, such as "there are at least 80 Democrats who would have felt comfortable in the communist party."

Not to mention, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there are 80 communists in Democratic ranks. I can probably name half of them.

(I have no idea what a multi-media journalist is? Perhaps a blogger who also appears on television?)

Anon, That would be disappointing, but I'd like to hear the whole quote before I make any judgements on it.
