Easter Greetings

Good Friday is the most solemn day of the Christian calendar. On that day, Christ was crucified and took on Himself the sins of the world for the redemption of all mankind. Today, Easter, Christians celebrate the most important and joyful day of the Christian calendar. From death came eternal life. "O death, where is thy sting, O grave, where is thy victory?"

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.

And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

He is not here, but is risen. Remember how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee, saying The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered His words.

Luke 24: 1-8

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Happy Easter Law Hawk!

Happy Easter everyone.

The Methodist church I go to while I'm in grad school is considerably more High Church than the one back at home. This has its advantages and disadvantages, but for the Easter service this morning, it worked out pretty well. Lots of bell-ringers, trumpeters, a decked-out choir, the works. It was quite an experience (even if I did have a bunch of annoying kids next to me).

Thanks for the Easter post, LawHawk. It's important to keep in mind that, as much as the political idiocy makes us want to tear our hair out sometimes, these are only temporary troubles. Thanks to Christ, we will one day be in a place where we shall never have to worry about such things again. Happy Easter, everybody.

T-Rav, LawHawk, et al. Won't it be nice not having to argue about what the truth is anymore? Though I do hope there is still some room in heaven for an honest debate. ;)

Now I'm going to make myself sick on Cadbury Creme Eggs!

T-Rav: I haven't yet joined a congregation since moving here, but I did go to an LCMS church performance of the Easter music from The Messiah. Last year I was impressed with the performance of a large Lutheran Church in L.A. doing the St. Matthew's Passion in the original German. I was amazed to find that some Lutheran churches still offer services in German. I love Easter Sunrise Services, but in order to get to one I have to get up at 4 in the morning. I should be ashamed of myself for thinking that's a burden.

Bev: That method sounds vaguely familiar. If you already have a blog, it's relatively easy, but as a commenter on someone else's blog, I had real difficulties changing it.

tryanmax: Now you've ruined my Easter. I forgot to get to a See's Candy store and pick up one of those huge chocolate eggs filled with creamy chocolate and nuts. But at least I won't feel guilty about not sharing it with anyone.

T-Rav said...

LawHawk and tryanmax, I shall be contenting myself with jelly beans. Those creme eggs don't quite do it for me.

T-Rav: You sound like a heretic. LOL

Actually, the See's Easter Egg is filled with fluffy rather than creamy chocolate. I didn't describe it well because I had drool running down my chin just at the thought.

Bev: I always end up dribbling them. I think it's time to see a dentist, or maybe a doctor who specializes in Niagra Falls salivary glands.

Happy Easter LawHawk.

Joel: And the very same to you and your loved ones.

Bev, they make my teeth hurt, too. But it is oh so worth it! I will also be microwaving Peeps over the next several days. Joy!

tryanmax: You're supposed to remove the foil wrappers first. LOL

Happy Easter gang!

USSBen: Where have you been? Happy Easter to you as well. My dad raised wascawwy wabbits, and I was never able to enjoy eating them. Besides being adorable, they were white/albino, and I kept picturing their pink eyes staring back at me. I had one of them as a pet. Called him Peter. Original, huh? Worst of all, I never got to see one of them lay an egg.

Hi LawHawk!

Been a bit under the weather but it looks like I have reached a turning point to which I'm very thankfull!

What better day than Easter!

I had a white albino rabbit too. His name was Fluffy (I was 9 okay?).
One day stepdad number 2 decided to whack him without telling me.
Fluffy is the only rabbit I couldn't eat.

Ben: Glad to have you back, and I hope your recovery is quick and complete. Easter is the perfect day for a renewal.

Happy Easter everyone. I hope this doesn't come up twice.

Thanks for the post LawHawk, and the reminder that Christ died for our sins.

Ben: I forgive you for "Fluffy" if you'll forgive me for my cat "Puff" (I was nine as well). At least all my dogs had decent names (although Dildog the mutt and O'Flaherty the Irish setter may have been a bit of a stretch).

Jen: We all get wrought up in daily events, so I try to pick those special days to remind us of our blessings.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

LawHawk: Ha ha ha! Those are definitely original dog names.

I had two goldfish named Sushi and Sashimi...

Ben: I named my mastiff Winston. It was a fairly common name, but he got it when my son stuck a toy cigar in his mouth as a puppy, and he looked exactly like Winston Churchill.

Bev: That's funny, and a little sick. LOL Just remember, if you ever move to San Francisco, you can't have goldfish because it's mean, or something, to have fish in a tank.

thanks for last night's post, Hawk. Good to remind us exactly why we celebrate Easter. :)

Tennessee: I know that sometimes we get caught up in politics and researching articles, but we try to remember the other important things which shape our lives.

Ben: True story. I had a boss when I was working for the Equitable many years ago. Needless to say, he was Irish, and he wore a toupe that was exactly the same color as my new puppy. Everything he did, he did by rote, and never had a creative idea. But he loved to point out that I was "deviating from traditional practice." I hated him.

So, I named the dog after the boss. That way I could yell, "Bad dog, O'Flaherty." "Stop barking, O'Flaherty" and other things you have to do to train puppies while working out my agressions that I couldn't at work. Then he invited himself to dinner at our house. He asked me what the dog's name was. I told him it was Fred. He said "you named the dog Fred?" I shot back, "well what did you expect me to name him? O'Flaherty?" The dog immediately rushed to my side to see what I wanted.

I missed a lot of activity around here this weekend! I was "offline" Fri pm through yesterday - it was kinda lovely!

Anyway, Alleluia, He is risen!

And, I had a cat, who when I got her as a baby only squeaked - no meowing, thusly named "Squeaks" ["Fox & the Hound" reference]. Several months later, I failed to get her fixed before she went into heat, and she found her voice. Squeaks no longer was appropriate. So, as a default back-up, she became "Cat". She never complained about it - she wasn't sure what a "cat" was, since she was most definitely human. In fact, her picture is my avatar right now. ;)
