The Song Is Gone But The Melody Lingers On

We recently announced the departure of Mao-loving Anita Dunn from the Obama staff. If you would like to review her credentials and departure, here are the links: Moral Philsopher to the Democrats and Bye, Bye Madam Mao. The White House recently announced that the President's replacement for White House Counsel Gregory Craig is none other than the inestimable leftist Democratic hack, Robert Bauer. Given that liberals are prone to ignoring the old-fashioned rules of husband/wife, you might not know that Bauer is Dunn's husband and companion in left wing activities.

So let's get up to date with the man who will be an even closer confidante of the president's than was his wife. Bauer is a 1976 graduate of the University of Virginia Law School. He has been a Democratic partisan attorney almost from the beginning. He has been active as a legal adviser to Democratic causes, particularly in Senatorial and House Democratic elections committees. In 1999 he was counsel to Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle and led the Congressman's defense team during the Clinton impeachment proceedings in the House. Bauer is considered an expert on perjury, abuse of power and obstruction of justice charges, so he was the perfect choice.

In 2000, Bauer was general counsel to the Bill Bradley for President Committee. As part of his self-imposed duties, he filed the lawsuit against House Majority Whip Tom DeLay, in which he accused the Texas Republican of extortion and money-laundering. In 2004, Bauer on to general counsel to the John Kerry presidential campaign. Bauer currently presides over the political law group at Perkins Cole, a powerful Seattle law firm closely aligned with the Democratic Party. The firm was instrumental in pushing a gubernatorial re-count which ultimately and suspiciously put a Democrat in the Washington State House after an apparent Republican win. The firm currently represents Tom Daschle, Richard Gephardt and Nancy Pelosi.

Upon his questionable election to the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama and Bauer formed a close relationship which has lasted to today. In 2007, Bauer was made general counsel for Obama's presidential campaign. An organization supported by Perkins Cole called Obama For America was actively chaired by Bauer. In 2009, Obama For America merged with the Democratic National Committee and changed the name to Organizing For America.

And it was about this time that Bauer's real colors began to show through. He became lead counsel defending Obama in court against challenges to his citizenship status. And Obama For America/Organizing For America has already paid Perkins Cole $1,352,378.95 for its legal services in that matter as Bauer retains his position as a full partner in the firm. Bauer was instrumental in convincing the always-truthful Obama that there was no legal impediment to Obama renouncing his pledge to use only public presidential funds for his campaign and going straight to the money men and the internet for direct contributions.

Bauer then used his legal strongarm tactics first against Obama's primary opponent Hillary Clinton and again against Republican candidate John McCain in which he threatened both news organizations and other opponents with actions before the Federal Elections Committee if they dared to air any anti-Obama television ads that even approached mentioning the close connection between radical Weatherman activist and current university professor William Ayers and his loathsome wife, Bernadette Dorn. He actually filed FEC complaints to stop groups who were attempting to run such ads.

A Hillary Clinton support group called The American Leadership Project was prevented from airing an ad exposing Obama's close connections to the leftist and thuggish Service Employees International Union. Today the head of that union, Andrew Stern, is the most frequent overnight guest at the White House. And this whole bestiary of Democratic politicians and lawyers are closely allied with George Soros, the richest leftist radical on earth. Stern and his allies sit on the board of the Soros-funded America Coming Together (a Democratic "get out the vote" group), and Bauer serves as regular legal adviser to the group.

Bauer was also actively involved in the questionable connection between Obama and Tony Rezko, the crooked real estate investor and middle-east favorite. Bauer spent a great deal of time assisting in Rezko's felony trials and multiple civil suits while at the same time deflecting the close connections between Obama and Rezko as demonstrated by Obama's purchase of a very expensive piece of real estate for a very "reasonable" price from Rezko.

So it seems we got rid of the Maoist philosophy lover only to have her husband show up in an even more influential office. The sudden change in White House counsel was unexpected and contains layers of political intrigue that may not come to light for years to come. But I'm guessing that Obama currently needs to keep Bauer close for his own safety, now and in the future. If Bauer ever goes off the reservation, he probably has more damaging information on Obama than any other single person in America. And the more Obama can make it look like he is getting strictly legal advice from Bauer, the better his future protection under attorney-client privilege. Now we know what Dunn meant when she said she would continue to advise the Obama administration in an unofficial capacity. She'll just accompany her official husband.

Lawhawk--It sounds like that old triple-play refrain "Tinkers to Evers to Chance." Only now it's "Soros to Sterns to Bauer."

HamiltonsGhost: Indeed it does. And after they've retired the other side, Obama steps up to hit the home run. Unless of course he needs Axelrod to step up as the designated hitter.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...that's what I'm reminded of when I read your post about Bauer. The good news is that these kinds of people usually have no problem eating their young. Can't wait till Bauer or Obama tries to make the other the scapegoat.

What we need to do, Hawk, is take a page from the Godfather II movie, e.g. have the guy wake up in bed with a dead bloody prostitute, then offer to help cover it up . . . . for a price.

WriterX: It should be an interesting feast.

Tennessee: We could hire mafia advisers. They'd certainly be more honest and loyal than what the liberals have.

You know, it's amazing to me how many times Obama's friends turn out to be communists or thugs or terrorists.

I didn't know he was Dunn's husband, but it doesn't surprise me with this administration. I wonder which murderous dictator he's a fan of?

This administration is owned by the unions. Has he done anything that put him in debt to the unions?

Andrew: I've stopped being shocked at the far left philosophies of Obama's people. But I'm still appalled. Each new appointment turns out to be a Marxist in some form or another. Bauer looks like he'd prefer Lenin or Stalin to Mao.

MegaTroll: Obama worked closely with several unions, most notably the SEIU, and proclaimed that the SEIU would always be a part of his agenda. They raised many, many millions of dollars of involuntary member dues to get him elected senator, then president. He owes them big-time, and they know things about his radical past he'd rather not have made into another public issue.

I wonder which one plays the male in the relationship Dunn or Bauer, you know the metrosexual thing and all!

StanH: No juicy rumors to share with you. They both seem very effete to me.
