Occupy Wall Street...sort of - Part IV

So, now that the Winter is in full swing, what's happened to all of those Occupiers of Wall Street? When we last left them on November 15, 2011 they were being evicted by force from Zuccotti Park. They sued, they lost, they appealed, realized that they couldn’t win (and maybe didn’t want to win because, well, Winter was moving in), and finally gave up their appeal. Well, let’s just say that they’ve kept themselves occupied with indoor activities.

Following their November eviction, sympathetic churches and synagogues opened their doors and their facilities to the Occupiers. Let’s call it a modern day “sanctuary”. Fast forward to February 2012, and now the churches and synagogues have had enough. Sanctuary just isn't what it used to be. It seems our Occupiers were not civilized enough to not steal because, well, ownership is such an outdated 20th Century concept. They stole or "acquired without benefit of ownership" just about anything that wasn’t nailed down including an expensive laptop and very valuable 800 lb baptismal font. Rev. Bob Brashears from the West Park Presbyterian Church, noted on his decision to evict the OWS’ers that “not even the crack addict mess with [the baptismal font[“. I will not tell you what they did to the sanctuary of a Park Slope (Brooklyn) church, but suffice it to say, that several of them had "accidents" on or near a cross. You know, one of those accidents that 3 year olds have. But hey, they said they were sorry for the thefts and the "accidents' and paid the churches a stipend for their trouble.

Next, our OWS’ers decided to use their force for good to “occupy” a home that was about to foreclosed on by one of those evil banks. The owner was thrilled, hoping that they would help him pressure the banks and the MSM to save his family home. Well, while the owner was trying desperately to save his home, the occupiers moved a “homeless family” in. They proceeded to tear down walls and “redecorate” so that others could move in, about 12 in all. With no help from OWS, the owner was able to save his home, but when he and his family were to move back in, they found 12 strangers living in their house and walls missing. So livid did this owner become he used the MSM to publically rebuke the OWS’er and used the sheriff to have them evicted. Again, they said they were sorry and paid to restore the owner’s home.

This week, they joined forces with the UFT and AFL-CIO to “Occupy the DOE”. The NYC Department of Education held public meeting this week to discuss when and why the Board of Education wanted to close 23 failing public schools and to give public and parents a chance to discuss. The Occupiers took over and became so loud and disruptive that the board members had to put on headphones to even hear each other. Parents did not get a chance to air grievances; the public did not get a chance to hear an explanation. The board voted to close the schools because no one was allowed to explain why they should not close them. The OWS’ers didn’t apologize for this one.

So, if you thought they were gone, they are not. If anything, they are becoming more aggressive. But they sure are not making any friends along the way.

as soon as I hear "occupy" I mentally turn it off. I think their brand has been fairly severely damaged.

TennJ - I understand, but Spring is coming and they have not been so damaged that they are going away. As the year progresses they will become more violent. It is better to keep up with what they up to.

I think it's fascinating that the Democrats have completely abandoned OWS and are now willing to throw them under the bus to be rid of them.

This more than anything proves how unpopular and destructive the OWS cause has been. Forget the polls that show generic support for OWS, the actions of the Democrats show the truth.

P.S. I saw a fascinating attempt to salvage the OWS movement by some actor (can't think of the name) who said "the real OWS people came, made a huge impact and left. The people there now are not OWS people and they are just trying to disgrace OWS's name."

Uh huh, sure.

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew - But as we know, the people who remain ARE the real OWS'ers, the others were just hangers-on.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Absolutely the hangers on are the real OWSers. The initial group included a lot of kids who went to see what was going on, i.e. for the experience. The ones who have stayed are the true believers. These people are the ugly core of the group.

The part I really get a kick out of is that this is leftists fighting liberals in big liberal cities. I can't tell you how much that makes me laugh!

Not exactly Washington at Valley Forge, are they?

Ha-ha, Lawhawk!

Bev, you are right...they are going to emerge in the spring like ticks and fleas. The beginning of Obama's campaign.

When you have offended liberal churches, you've been really really naughty!

AndrewPrice said...

Cris, Can you imagine what it must take to offend liberal churches in a big liberal city? I didn't think that was possible!

CrisD and Andrew: The churches and synagogues (notice no mosques) were THRILLED with a capital "Thr" to be a part of this. They were part of the OWS by allowing the "kids" to use their bathrooms, shower and kitchen facilities all along. When the mean city folks moved in the these same churches were there to open their doors to these poor unfortunates who had no place to go.

The first thing that happened is OWS'ers decided to occupy a vacant lot owned by one of these churches who had already said they couldn't for legal reasons. That chain link fence didn't stop the OWS at all. It went down hill from there. It's like when you invite the devil in the door he owns your soul.

These churches and synagogues have long histories of helping the indigent, the druggies, misfits, in the true Christian and Jewish spirit. They thought they were civilized people honestly and righteously protesting the inequalities of mankind. The desecration of their sanctuaries was too much. Like the Rev. said, not even then the crack addicts would do that!

News Alert: It has just been reported that Whitney Houston has died. No cause of death...

I'm guessing it has something to do with drugs...

AndrewPrice said...

Wow, that's a shock! Like Tam, I suspect it's probably drugs. Sad.

Bev, Interesting point about the churches and synagogues. I think they misunderstood who they were dealing with here. These aren't people of good will or people who need help, they are spiteful people who are demanding accommodation from the government. There's a huge difference in the attitude there.

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew, I think they absolutely misunderstood who they were dealing with. The professional limousine liberals long ago went home to their "luxury high rises". As a matter of fact the professionals never slept in the park, but admittedly slept in the comfort of their nearby luxury hotels with 1000 count cotton sheets and room service. They didn't think it was necessary mingle with the rabble. They left the real work that to the naive chumps and chronic anarchists who in turn left their welfare to whoever would supply free lodging and stuff to "acquire without benefit of ownership".

Wow, the real irony here is that the OWS movement was creted by these democrats. They were so desparate to have an answer to the Tea Party that they latched on to anyone willing to show up.

They got the typical liberal "activist". Someone with no respect for authority who has been told it is OK to "stick it to the man". Now they have Frankenstien'sw monster on their hands and they don't know what to do with it.

I suspect in the election if these clowns do something that negatively impacts the One's chances at reelection (like storm the convention or speeches). something the media can't just ignore and pretend did not happen. Well we will start hearing how Occupy is a right wing group of Paulbots or some other nonsence. Orwell lives!

Andrew Breitbart was at dinner recently with Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn; according to him, the latter described the OWS as just the most recent version of the '60s anti-war movement. I suppose they would know.

Andrew Breitbart had dinner with Bill Ayers? That could have been interesting.

I love OWS. The more they infest and destroy, the bigger the defeat for Barry.

OWS reminds me of the old Saturday Night Live skit with John Belushi, “The guest (thing) that wouldn’t leave.”

tryanmax said...

Not that I desire the infliction of OWS on anyone, but if they have not gone away, I hope they make their presence known again next fall.

Different topic, it's too bad that no one watches DeFace the Nation because Mitch McConnell totally laid into Obama on the abortion/contraception thing. Deadpan, yes, but he made some excellent points.

- The Bill of Rights was intended to protect the minority from the will of the majority.

- Obama is deciding other people's religion for them.

- The Congress hasn't passed a budget in over 1000 days and last year I (McConnell) had to submit the president's budget for him.
