Happy Independence Day!

I don't know about you, but nothing says "Happy Independence Day" like a Schoolhouse Rock! song. Here are a few of my "Independence Day" favorites for you to enjoy.

 Happy Birthday, America!

The Boston Tea Party never sounded so good!

This next selection tells the story of famous battles with a catchy Jazz beat...

And my personal favorite...

A 35 year old Lawyer left this so that we could experience the feeling of the time.

NE OBLIVISCARIS

SEMPER FIDELIS

O! say can you see by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
’Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation.
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust;”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave![12]

Don't know how many people saw this, but like many other urban news dailies, our local paper uses the canned pathetically Hollywood liberal promoting nationally produced "Parade Magazine" as a Sunday insert.

What I saw this morning made by blood boil. Under a feature called "Intelligence Report" (kind of an oxymoron) the question is raised "Is it time for a new national anthem?" Such as**h*les as Christina Aguillera seem to think so, because it is too hard to sing. Other "critics" (gotta believe they are progressives) don't like the fact it celebrates a "long forgotten" battle.

Naturally, good old Parade invites them to go online and vote. Argggh!!!! They probably would prefer it to be vhanged to "Barrack Hussein Obama; mmmmn, mmmmmn, mmmmmn. :-(

Jed, For as far back as I can recall, people have been suggesting changing the anthem to "America the Beautiful" because few people can hit the big high note in the anthem. I don't think they've ever gotten any traction though as Americans are very proud of our anthems.

As for these being forgotten battles, of course they are because leftists think history began the moment they were born.

Tehachapi Tom: Does that mean you're admitting that lawyers aren't all bad? LOL

Tennessee: I don't buy any of this anti-war, wishy-washy, "O Canada" type crap. And I love hearing the Star Spangled Banner at any public occasion. As I've mentioned many times before, it always gets me. That said, it is unsingable for the vast majority of us. Perhaps we could consider leaving the SSB as our official anthem, to be played by bands and/or sung by people with that kind of range, while having an alternate that we can all actually sing. God Bless America has the right enthusiasm, the right sentiment, and it's eminently singable. I find America the Beautiful a bit overblown (not to mention, who would believe "thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears?"), and America (My Country 'Tis of Thee) is the same tune as "God Save the Queen," indistinguishable when played.

Of course, any anthem I would choose would include the mention of God, so there's another problem for the lefties. Which brings me to God of Our Fathers, the National Hymn (did you know we have a National Hymn?). It has the same stirring type of melody as the SSB, but no extremely high or low notes, so it's singable. But then there's that God thing for the lefties to object to.

Hawk my high school alma mater's alma mater is set to the melody of God of Our Fathers so, not only did I know that, but have an extra special place for it.

Andrew - you are so right about the left and thinking history started yesterday, or at least the day Bubba Clinton was inaugurated.

This afternoon, a parade of antique cars is coming through my neighborhood. Probably your cousin Iowa would be envious not to mention the good folks at Meechum auctions. Speaking of iowahawk, he has some great parodies of the left set to Beetles tunes up if you want a cheap laugh (and who doesn't if at Barrack's sexpense?)

the typo's were unintentional, but not all that unfunny as I look at them.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, The typo is kind of funny. I got a chuckle out of it! LOL!

Tennessee: I shoulda knowed that you would know that. LOL

Well, at least a whole lotta people now have heard of Waterloo, Iowa. The left is having a field day with the John Wayne/John Wayne Gacy thing. I just remember the farm and the John Deere factory and the geese that loved to chase me.

Oh, and I liked the typos, too.

If I were Christina Aguilera, I'd want a new anthem to sing, too--like one on a five-year-old's level. That way I wouldn't have any trouble singing it.

AndrewPrice said...

T_Rav, I think she would be happier with something with incomprehensible words... "ohhh yeah garble garble yeah yeah wooooooooh garble garble." ;-)

T-Rav: I nominate Merrily We Roll Along for Aguilera. She could probably sing it without dropping or missing too many notes or forgetting the words, she could shake her pelvis as she chooses, and even a three-year old can learn to play it on the piano. My alternate suggestion, just to add some harmony, would be Row, Row, Row Your Boat. She could have her entire troupe of degenerate morons singing and dancing along with her. I've been humming Andrew's suggestion, but I think it's too complicated for Aguilera. LOL

Bev, Those are some great School House Rocks! My personal favorite though remains... "conjunction junction, what's your function?"
