We're going to update our blog tonight. Here is a link to what it will look like: LINK. Please check this out and tell me if you have any problems with the new format. I'd like to fix any problems that come up before we do the update... Thanks!
Is it going to be necessary in the real one to enter the security word to post comments if you are already signed in?
Okay, so this is an aethetic thing, not an actual function problem, but the style and color of the Title banner and the body, no longer match. The reds clash...
In addition to the news feeds, maybe us regulars can pitch in with our own favorite sites for the "Links"column in different subjects (news, sports, entertainment, sci/tech, etc.). You, of course, would be free to pick and choose what you want.
Speaking of the news feeds, I assume the final version will look a little different but I would swap out Newsmax for Hot Air (just a personal preference) and swap out Entertainment Weekly for something a little less gossipy (Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, etc.).
Also, Scott, I'm not convinced the blog search will work. It says it will, but it hasn't worked on the test site. So I'm not sure it will work here, but we'll give it a shot.
1. The social network stuff is there on each post now -- right next to the comment button.
2. Which feeds do you prefer, I'll check them out -- please list them for me.
3. You would think the blog search thing would be easy. I'm not sure why this one didn't work -- it could be that the blog just wasn't old enough or the feeds weren't active. I don't know. I'll keep playing with it. There may be alternative search tools.
This is a work in progress, and so far it has progressed very nicely. But as with all major changes, there will be some glitches and failed functionality which will get fixed as quickly as possible.
I personally want to thank Andrew for being the computer-whiz who took this on himself. I would still be writing the blog by hand and having it sent to you all by carrier pigeon if we had to depend on my computer skills.
Looks sharp, Andrew! I do have one question: will we still have full access to the index and archives, as we do now? Some of those past posts are invaluable as ammunition in my arguments with friends, and I don't want to lose them.
T_Rav, Yes, all the content will still be here. It just doesn't show up right now because the new template is sitting on a new blog I created to test out the template. After I move it over here, everything should be restored after I made a few tweaks!
BTW, it's not a deal breaker if you don't use them, lol.
Actually, I'm purty sure most of my fellow comment taters will not find the Navy Times all that interesting which I can adapt to as long as you don't put the Air Force or Army Times in. :^)
maybe we do worry to much. The Dems will run Obama; a very different candidate now he has a track record to run on. Someone will step up, and I will support them. If economy continues to hurt, we can run a frog and win. If things begin to pick up, it will be more of a referendum. If we can get a likable candidate, I agree with those that say the experience factor will become less important as their skills as a campaigner and orator.
Ed, Thanks. I actually looked into that. The problem is that's not a feed. I think they're actively combing the feeds to find the specific stories and then loading those manually. In other words, there's no way for us to link to them.
USS Ben, True. I would be happy to connect more with them, but I don't think it would add a lot to just link to the handful of blog posts they do.
As we said the other day, I really feel that BH needs to step up their tech game. Look at how easily we're about to add a bunch of (hopefully) useful content for our readers, and then ask why they can't do at least this -- if not more? A couple part time blogger/attorneys with no real tech skills should not be ahead of professional conservative sites!

COOL!!
Thanks Bev!

Okay, I'll stop...
Bev, I think I can eliminate the password. I'll look into that.
On the colors, we would need to rework the title image and that could be difficult.
Ooooooh.....
Aaahhhhhh....
Wooow.......
Not bad!

LOL! Thanks Crispy! It's magic!
Scott,
It will look a little different because not all the links are in place -- all of that will be in place once I update here.
Do you mean replace the feeds or add to the links?
I looked at the Hollywood reporter and I couldn't find a fee -- they want a subscription.
Please let me know what you think should be added.
Also, Scott, I'm not convinced the blog search will work. It says it will, but it hasn't worked on the test site. So I'm not sure it will work here, but we'll give it a shot.
I meant both: swap out a couple of feeds (just personal preferences on my part) and add more links.
(Looking back at it, I did phrase my comment a little oddly.)
Shucks about the blog search. It sounds so simple! :-)
Maybe you can also add social networking icons to individual blog entries (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
Scott,

Bev, I might be able to fix the color. I'll work on it.
Let's see (as I wade into the waters of the conservative blogosphere):
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/hotair/main
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/instapundit/main
feed://dailycaller.com/feed/
And a few others:
feed://feeds.gawker.com/gizmodo/full
http://feeds.gawker.com/io9/full
http://feeds.wired.com/wired/index
feed://www.joblo.com/newsfeeds/rss.xml
I have no RSS experience but I think I got the right ones. The last four feeds could also go in a "misc. links" section. :-)

Andrew, really, the color thing is a very small issue.
I second LawHawk thanks to Andrew, however I would be using at least Western Union...
Scott, The problem with having too many feed is that each feed slows things down, so we want to avoid too much duplication.
I'll check these out. We can always swamp them out or add one or two more.
FYI, the current problems with our front page are NOT us. This is a blogger issue and dozens of people are reporting it.
So don't worry, it's not related to the update we're planning.
Looking good Andrew!
The blog I mean. Not that you don't look good. Because you probably do. Of course I say that in a totally platonic way.
Some links that may be of interest: The Smoking Gun
Geekologie
Navy Times (Aye! I am biased, what of it?).
Thanks Lawhawk and Bev!
Bev, I can change the tile fairly easily, the pen is a different story though.
T_Rav, Yes, all the content will still be here. It just doesn't show up right now because the new template is sitting on a new blog I created to test out the template. After I move it over here, everything should be restored after I made a few tweaks!
Thanks USS Ben! I'm glad you said that in a platonic way! LOL!
I'll check out those links.
Oops, forgot the links:
Geekologie
The Smoking Gun
BTW, it's not a deal breaker if you don't use them, lol.

USS Ben, thanks for the links! I'm glad it's not a deal breaker, I'd hate to think you're using us for our links! ;-)
Jed, You may be right... though I think you're in the wrong thread?! :-)
don't know how that happened, Andrew, but you are correct, sir. As for the new look, looks good to me! ;-)
That looks great. Nice work, really nice work. Can you link the Hollywood news from the top of Big Hollywood?
Thanks Jed. With luck, it should be up and running sometime tonight.
Ed, Thanks. I actually looked into that. The problem is that's not a feed. I think they're actively combing the feeds to find the specific stories and then loading those manually. In other words, there's no way for us to link to them.
Too bad about BH. Yet another simple opportunity they have to make it easier for folks to access their site...lost.
USS Ben, True. I would be happy to connect more with them, but I don't think it would add a lot to just link to the handful of blog posts they do.

Scott.....
1. What is Gawker? Is this gossip or comedy?
Scott, BTW, check out the blog search at the bottom -- it seems to actually work!
