Conservatives ARE Smarter Than Liberals

Liberals love to think they’re smarter than conservatives, but they aren’t. Conservatives are smarter than liberals, and we know this to be true for a variety of reasons. Now, Pew has give us more proof to add to the pile. But before we talk about Pew, let’s consider the proof we already have that conservatives are indeed smarter than liberals.

Here are six reasons why we know liberals are simply not very smart:

1. They support liberalism. No, I’m not being facetious. Liberalism has been an unmitigated disaster everywhere it’s been tried. It has bankrupted countries, destroyed inner city families, and made a mockery of education. Indeed, any area of our culture or economy which is dominated by liberals is a mess. And the more liberal a country is, the more likely it is to be broke with massive unemployment and little idea how to turn itself around. Not to mention that liberalism runs contrary to human nature, and its cousin socialism has slaughtered hundreds of millions of people. Einstein defined insanity as repeating the same behaviors and expecting different results, yet that is exactly what liberals are doing. Hence, anyone who still believes liberalism can work is either stupid or insane.

2. They reject reality. Anyone who ignores facts they don’t like and insists on believing things that are provably false just isn’t very smart. Yet, that describes liberalism to a T. They will believe things which have been debunked and ignore all evidence that disproves their beliefs. And, not only do they ignore evidence they don’t like, they attack the messenger and try to force people to accept their fantasy version of reality over genuine reality through groupthink and political correctness.

3. They accept contradictions. Anyone who can accept a logical contradiction is an idiot because it shows they have no ability to reason and they are willing to believe that which cannot be true just to maintain their worldview. And liberalism is crawling with logical contradictions. My recent favorite is Keynesian thought, which says that spending money helps the economy because it adds to the economy but simultaneously claims that taxes don’t hurt an economy even though taxes pull money from the economy.

4. They lack a principled framework through which to see the world. The liberal decision-making process is emotive and reactionary, it lacks consistency and any sort of framework upon which to base decisions. It is essentially “reasoning through gut feeling.” Inconsistency and lack of problem-solving methodology are evidence of weak, useless minds.

5. They are incapable of seeing the long term. All decisions have short-term and long-term consequences, yet liberals simply cannot grasp the concept of long-term effects. Only being able to grasp half an answer is evidence of stupidity.

6. They “admit” it. Liberalism’s most obnoxious trait is that liberals project their own worst traits onto others. Thus, while they act like racists/sexists/homophobes/ageists/etc-ists, they deny being any of these things and instead project these flaws onto others. They whine about conservatives speaking in code because they themselves speak in code. They accuse people of being liars when they are the liars, they accuse others of being “haters” when they have the hate, and they accuse others of being “fascists” when they are the fascists. So what do we make of liberals accusing conservatives of being closed-minded (a distinctly liberal, but not conservative, trait) and stupid? Hmm. Sounds like an admission to me.

And now we have more from Pew. Every year, Pew asks people a variety of questions to gage the public’s knowledge of various topics. If liberals are indeed smarter as they claim, they should dominate these tests, but they don’t. To the contrary, conservative blow them out.

Here are the results from the 2010 quiz:
● Men did better than women (50% to 35% correct) and in fact beat women on every question.
● College grads did much better than high school grads (61% to 33%).
● Age-wise, those in the 30+ brackets did much better than the 18-20 bracket (50% to 32%).
And Republicans (50%) and Independents (47%) did better than Democrats (40%).
In fact, it was even worse than it appears for the Democrats. On the 2010 Pew survey, Republicans outperformed the Democrats on 10 of 12 questions, with one tie and the Democrats winning the other question. On this year’s survey it was even worse. This year, Pew asked 19 questions and Republicans outperformed the Democrats on ALL 19 questions. Imagine that.

So these condescendingly smug liberals who see themselves as vastly more knowledgeable than Republicans. . . after all, they watch Stephen Colbert while you hillbillies are watching NASCAR. . . got smoked on 19 out 19 questions. And this continues a trend of Republicans smoking Democrats.

Sadly, the Democrats are probably too stupid to understand what this means, but feel free to try to explain it to them the next time they claim they are smarter than conservatives. I suggest using puppets to make it easier for them to understand.

Andrew - a fun article to be sure. Of course you are forgetting one basic tenant of liberalism: "There is nothing wrong with the system. It just has never been implemented by the right people." In other words, what they fail to realize is that there are two "truisms" that do seem to prove themselves again and again:

1) "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." It's human nature. We end up with crony capitalism, bureaucrats who are loyal campaign supporters, sycophants, etc. It doesn't matter whether one is talking big government or big business. Too much size and power leads to corruption of the noblest of intentions.

2) "People will act in enlightened self-interest." This is the logic and beauty of individual liberty. The very few exceptions to the rule simply prove the rule. I suspect even the noblest of intentions (e.g. the heart surgeon who works in a clinic for peanuts) is doing so because it will make them feel great. People will say how wonderful they are.

Don't get me wrong. Capitalism has it's flaws but the old axiom holds true. Capitalism's greatest vice is it creates untold wealth but distributes it unevenly. Socialism's greatest virtue is it creates untold misery and spreads it equally to all."

Your premise is eminently provable, one only need to look at “Detroit” …a liberal masterwork. Great read Andrew.

The greatest difficulty in talking with liberals is their inability to consider reality as a valid argument. Their little pea brains just can't see around the barriers of denial they have to put in place to continue the liberal dream. I would feel sorry for them but they are dangerous and evil in the final outcomes.

BevfromNYC said...

A - I got all of questions correct.

B. Yes, we are smarter. We tend to value education and information more. However, Conservative need be aware that we tend to accept reality as it is. We fight change for good reason many times, but sometime we fight change just to fight change.

T-Rav said...

Proof of 1 and 2 is the left-wing insistence that dystopic hellholes like North Korea, Cuba, and the whole Soviet bloc are NOT communism in action, they're just proof of what happens when all that wonderful Marxism gets hijacked by non-Marxists. If we would just go back to the original ideas of communism, things would work out perfect. Well, sorry, but it doesn't go like that. You have to own these disasters, guys.

Andrew: You have proven nothing. Liberals are so smart that they know there is no such thing as an objective standard, simple fact, or truth. Therefore, the Pew quiz is just a philosophical construct made up by conservatives to support their own truth. True knowledge isn't about correct or incorrect, but rather about how one feels about it.

Tennessee Jed said...

after getting all 13 questions correct, I don't know whether to be amazed or give a sad wry smile about how easy it was and how many got answers wrong.

Tennessee: I'm guessing that the majority of our readers got all 13 right. I wonder how that stacks up against the HuffPo and DailyKos.

As an aside, here's a Ricky update for everyone...

Not only did Ricky go on national television to say that the guy in Florida is guilty... despite the conservative belief that you don't convict someone until you've seen the evidence,

BUT

His PAC also sent out a flier telling people that Romney: "claims allegiance to a cult that is truly NOT Christian"

...suggesting that voting for Romney was like "Christians in Nazi Germany in the 1930s"

...and attacking Jim DeMint of having abandoned Christian values by supporting Santorum.

F-U Rick!

that Jim DeMint

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, Liberal is as stupid does.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Stan! Of course, we see evidence of this in everything liberals control -- Detroit, most inner cities, all of education, unions. Even cities like New York were a pit until the occasional Republican like Giuliani came along and cleaned them up. Liberals just doesn't make sense... but they keep on trying to ram all those square pegs into those round holes.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, Nice breakdown of the difference between capitalism and socialism!

I think you're right that liberals fundamentally misunderstand those points. They still believe that absolute power, used benignly, is the only way to do anything good. And despite the 100% consistently negative human experience associated with absolute power, they just will not realize the truth.

You're right about enlightened self-interest. What's funny is that they understand this point in their own lives. Once you make it about their own behaviors and their own dollars and the people they deal with like mechanics and waiters, they suddenly become conservatives. But the minute you take their wants out of it, they act like self-interest is evil. That's another sign of a weak mind -- someone who can't apply their beliefs consistently.

DUQ said...

Fun read Andrew and very true. This is one of those all conservatives should memorize so they can throw it back at liberals whenever liberals start acting all smug.

There's another fun quiz from Hillsdale College which just popped up on my e-mail this morning: Constitution 101. Since it's about the Constitution, liberals would start with a major handicap--they've never read the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or the Federalist Papers. And they feel good about it. LOL

AndrewPrice said...

darski, I agree entirely. They have all these defense mechanisms in place which prevent them from seeing the truth, and part of that is an incredible ability to ignore reality so as to main the beliefs they want to have. It's like saying, I believe the sky is brown and getting upset at anyone who shows you proof that it's really blue. It is like a mental illness.

That's why I think it's amazing that they keep right on claiming that they are smarter than conservatives. Hardly.

Doc Whoa said...

Excellent article as always Andrew. I hadn't heard of this, but I can assure that my liberal friends will now! :D

T-Rav said...

Oh for heaven's sake, that Pew quiz wasn't even hard! Anyone who flunks that should be banned from voting for any position higher than dogcatcher.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Same here. I got them all right. I would hope most of us would get them all right because we're a pretty well-informed crowd.

Also, let's be clear, conservatives aren't perfect. There is a lot of knee-jerk thinking on the conservative side as well. But the difference is that knee-jerk thinking by conservatives tends to be rare and can usually be overcome with rational argument. That's not true with liberals. Liberals are all about bumpersticker thoughts and knee-jerk reactions and they are impervious to correction. To the contrary, they get all bent out of shape about anyone trying to correct them.

Doc Whoa said...

Also, Rick is a turd. I saw the video of him saying that guy in Florida was guilty and I just screamed at my computer: "you asshole! That's not how conservative work! They believe in not prejuding a situation!" He needs to get back to the left where he belongs.

As for the DeMint thing, if I had the slightest respect for Ricky, that would end it.

AndrewPrice said...

Oh, and get this Bev...

The Pew article tried to explain why liberalism would lose so badly to conservatives. They actually said, (paraphrase) "well, conservatives tend to be white, male and better educated so of course they would do better." Huh?!

Think about that.

First, how does that actually excuse liberalism? That just confirms that more-stupid people are attracted to liberalism.

Secondly, this runs completely counter to what liberals are pushing -- the idea that conservatives are uneducated hicks.

You're right that conservatives value education more and they also value knowledge and wisdom more. We value good decision making. Liberals are the ones who value feeling good about decisions rather than making good decisions.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, That's one of the great defense mechanism of liberalism: they always disown their failures and mythologize their few "successes" (like FDR). That's the only way they can deal with the fact that liberalism has been 100% a failure throughout history. Without that, it would be awkward explaining why they keep supporting the same ideology as Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Carter, etc. "We don't, they didn't really do what they claimed... they did something completely different... liberalism has never been tried except by FDR."

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, While I know you are being facetious, you have simultaneously done an excellent job of laying out the liberal position: this test must be biased and true and false don't matter because you can look those up, what matters is having the self-esteem to look them up. Welcome to the liberal education system!

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, It really does show how uninformed the public is. This isn't that hard and I would hope that people would get most right. I can imagine a couple that people might not get if they aren't paying attention, but to have a 50% success rate is just ridiculous.

Of course, these are the same people who can't find Mexico on the map, can't name the President, and don't know what side we were on during WWII. But they do know who Kim Kardashian is. Oh joy.

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, It would be interesting to test wouldn't it? I recall some test like this which showed that the Colbert watchers were actually very uninformed -- much worse than Fox News watchers, despite their belief that they were ultra-informed.

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, Conservatives need to start fighting back against this idea that liberals are smarter. That's another liberal defense mechanism and as long as they are allowed to think that they are smarter, they will keep right on pushing their ideas and attacking conservatives. We need to expose this every chance we get so they have to stop feeling smug.

BevfromNYC said...

I admit that I did waiver a bit on the SC Justice question. They look so much alike, but like in "Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade", I chose wisely...

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, I've seen that test before. It's another good one, but as you might expect, the public does very very poorly on it.

tryanmax said...

I guess I'm the dummy. I only got 12 right. Does it matter that I don't know Ben Bernake's face? I'll admit it, I kinda guessed on Sonya Sotomayor, too. I'm not good at putting names with faces, people!

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Doc! Good for you! Tell all your liberal friends. It's time conservatives did the old point and laugh at liberals whenever they claim they are smarter.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, It's too bad they don't have an intelligence test for voting... it would probably put an end to liberalism.

I personally find it shocking that people do poorly on a test like this. Most of these questions are really basic knowledge which the television, radio and newspapers shout at you all the time.

AndrewPrice said...

Doc, He is a turd. BTW, here's the link to the flier from his PAC: LINK. Notice how they slide in the Nazi reference. These people are sick.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed said...

Nice article. Liberals are fools, that is beyond dispute.

On Santorum, did you see that he is now defending his "bullshit" comment by saying that makes him "a real Republican"? This guy needs to go.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I would understand his frustrations except the NYT is not distorting his words. He's playing a game. He's proud to say these things. Then the media reports them and he attacks the media to make himself seems like a victim to his cult. And the specific blow up here and the use of the word "bullshit" is simply meant to get attention because he's out of ammo.

Ed said...

That's how I read it to, as a staged thing to get attention. I'll bet talk radio jumps to his defense today though. They'll use this to gloss over his other gaffes and then go after Romney for not having passion.

AndrewPrice said...

Yep. I could totally see them doing that -- trying to make Santorum's tantrum sound like something noble by twisting it back on Romney as a "see, Romney is the real villain because he lacks passion."

Ed said...

I wonder how they're going to explain Santorum calling Zimmerman guilty? I'll bet they don't mention it.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, That's a good question. This is one of those situations that should not be prejudged. Of course, the left specializing in prejudging. And too many on the right are ready to join them.

DUQ said...

The commenters at Big Government jumped all over Rick on this and rightly so. How can any genuine conservative assume Zimmerman is guilty based on the one-sided reports of the MSM?

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, I saw that. The first guy had something like 60 likes this morning (which is a lot these days). And I don't think I saw any pro-Ricky comments.

tryanmax said...

Andrew, that won't matter for long. Pretty soon we'll all be driving Leafs and swerving to avoid squirrels, lest our batteries explode into deadly inferno.

tryanmax said...

Doc Whoa, I have to disagree with you. Ricky is not a turd. He is a fart. A turd has substance.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, True. Once the enviro's have their way in Obama's "more flexible" second administration, cars won't be able to hurt anyone. Sad.

LOL! No substance. Very nice. I see that the reporter has the audio tape and it turns out he actually quoted Ricky 100% correctly. So I guess in Rick's mind, being a "real Republican" means whining about MSM bias that isn't real. Way to disgrace the cause Rick!

Doc Whoa said...

tryanmax, So true! The only substance Ricky has in air and it stinks.

You listen to talk radio, are they finally giving up on this guy? What's the story today?

Doc Whoa said...

What really bothers me though is the attack on Jim Demint. He's the most solid conservative in the country, both on Tea Party issues and on so-con issues. That Santorum would slander his is just more reason this guy needs to be tossed out on his butt by conservatives.

AndrewPrice said...

Doc, Jim DeMint is everything conservatives could ask for. He's extremely conservative on economic and social issues. He's a hawk, but not an adventurer. He's very, very willing to be political in his decisions -- he single-handedly changed the culture of the Senate. He is an important figure. For Ricky to attack him is really twisted and it just highlights again why Ricky is not a conservative and how much damage he's willing to do in this race. He is Ricky the Spoiler.

Doc Whoa said...

"Ricky the Spoiler" is right. The guy is bad news.

Also, I've been thinking about what you said above and I got a real kick out of them claiming liberals aren't stupid, there are just a lot of stupid people who are liberals. Talk about a stupid distinction!

rlaWTX said...

yay! 13 for 13! I love being in the 92nd percentile! (I "guessed wisely" on Sotomayor too)

RE: Ricky - how closely allied is he with this particular PAC? And if they are being honest with themselves, I bet many these PAC folks would consider Catholicism cultic (like LOTS of evangelicals I know). Oops.

I actually had the "cult" vs cult conversation with my mom this weekend. Most people who weren't raised in the evangelical world have no idea why Mormonism would be considered cultic. Cult to the general population means Jim Jones & Branch Davidians (and sometimes Scientology) - coercive, isolational, all-encompassing, money-grabbing. "Cult" to evangelicals tends to be heretical, non-orthodox, odd-ball, non-Christo-centric groups, which is a much wider field than the gen pop recognizes. Pushing the "cult" label just confuses the gen pop - another area in which SweaterVestMan will have problems in the general election.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, Congrats! I think most of us will score 10+ on this test. I can't see much less than that. Now think about the fact that most people scored below 6, and yet they still get to vote. Scary, isn't it?

I don't buy the idea that there is a distinction between PACs and candidates, especially when the candidate doesn't repudiate the PAC. I see them as essentially spokesmen. So unless Santorum wants this attributed to him, then he needs to repudiate it. And after the whining about the word choice of Romney's spokesman over the Etch-A-Sketch, they have no right/room to claim that somehow this should not be attributed to Rick.

On the cult issue, that maybe how evangelicals define the word, but the public at large uses the more specific definition and these people know that. And when they use the term, they know they are implying the public definition because that is how they are using it and they are not making any attempt to explain that they only mean it in the narrow definition. And Rick certainly is using in an effort to generate prejudice.

By the way, I've heard that many times that they consider Catholics a cult. It's interesting that somehow Catholic Rick isn't in a cult this time, isn't it?

AndrewPrice said...

Doc, That is stupid: liberalism isn't stupid, it's just practiced by stupid people. LOL!

tryanmax said...

Doc, I've missed most of Rush today, but Ingraham is still pushing the idea that Romney can't win outside of Florida. (She said that.) But beyond that, she steered clear of the primaries for the most part today.

I usually catch the end of Bill Bennett first thing in the morning, and his last guest was some columnist and Santorum apologist who's name I didn't catch. Basically, the guy's premise is that Ricky means what he says if you like it, but not if you don't.

To be fair to Mr. Bennett, he's been pretty neutral all along. Some lady called in to announce that she couldn't support Romney because George Soros said there wouldn't be much of a difference if he became president. Bill pushed back saying that Soros is clever enough to say nice things about people he doesn't like in order to hurt them. You're not going to hear that on other shows.

tryanmax said...

RE: PACs vs candidates -- regardless whether one finds a distinction between them or not, Santorum has no leg to stand on because he has publicly rejected the idea there is any distinction between Romney and his PACs.

RE: Santorum's flier -- the thing that jumps out at me is in the first paragraph and it is something that I detest. I call it "quote enveloping" and the example I see is where it says, "...Richard Land...and...Jim DeMint seem to be 'consolidating around Mitt Romney' says Brett Baehr..." They are trying to lend credence to their position by taking a stated opinion and quoting it as evidence of something.

A more egregious example occurred lately when Newt Gingrich said that George Soros said, "he’s perfectly happy with either Obama or Romney." Newt's remark is far from a direct quote and misrepresents what Soros was saying. Still, the "perfectly happy" remark makes it's way into headlines as though Soros is who said it.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, The little I heard from Ingraham, she's still in the tank. I thought last week she might finally have snapped out of it, but it was not to be.

I didn't hear the interview you mention, but your summary: "Ricky means it if you like it and doesn't if you don't" sounds like much of what I'm reading at other blogs.

Hotair is going down another rabbit hole. After trying to blame the financial crash on Romneycare last week, they have now noted to their horror that Romney worked with Ted Kennedy on Romneycare! THE BASTARD!.

Well, what do you expect from Mass? Now try to explain to me why Ricky worked with Kennedy when he didn't need to on No Child Left Behind... oh right, that's different.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, True. I personally find no distinction because these candidates can repudiate the PACs if they don't like them. And when they don't, I see that as ratifying the PAC's behavior.

That said, even if there was a distinction, Santorum has no right to make that argument given his constant attacks on Romney's PAC as being controlled by Romney and given his attack on Romney because of the words of his spokesman (which Romney repudiated). Rick is just a hypocrite. Apparently, his Bible doesn't cover that.

I agree with you about the fake quotes. They are basically slamming Lake and DeMint for saying something which neither actually said. They are just substituting Brett Baehr's opinion for the missing quote they could not obtain. I see this a lot these days. And when they can't even find an opinion like Baehr's to exploit, they will fall back on: "many are suggesting" or "it has been claimed." That's the ultimate in "I need a quote but can't find one so I'm just going to pretend this is true."

I think the worst part of that letter is the shark-jumping use of the world cult and the reference to the Nazis. That more than anything proves that Rick belongs with the OWS crowd and not conservatives.

Doc Whoa said...

tryanmax, Thanks. I've stopped listening entirely. I can't take it anymore.

tryanmax said...

Okay Doc, I've gotten some Rush in my ear, so I'll report it before I swab it out. Sometime during the last hour, it became news again that "RomneyCare is the blueprint for ObamaCare." This assertion--made by the Obama administration--is regarded as the gospel truth, in spite of the fact that everything else from the administration is regarded as a lie.

For my part, I revert back to my usual analogy: claiming that a chicken is the blueprint for a 747 does not make it true, no matter how often you say it, even if they do both have wings.

Andrew this reminds me of what my father told me when people compalined about using SAT tests for college placement in remedial classes at the community college. The charge was that the test was somehow inherently racisst/sexist/homophobic because the questions were rigged to favor white men.

My Dad would point to the portion of the SAT that was pure mathematics (no word problems). He would ask the question why is it that someone who fairs better or worse on the test has the same result in this section. After all if it waqs due to the words being favorable to one group then would that person not excel in the math sections with no words.

No one ever had an argument to fight him on that.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I was worried when it switched to a bomb. But I like the Texas and Non-Texas one. :)

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, That's an excellent argument, and naturally they won't have an answer because the answer is that the test is NOT biased, they just aren't good students.

That's been the problem with liberalism in schools for generations now. Minorities do poorly. Rather than push them harder, as conservatives would, liberals pretend the difference must be bias and thereby take away the very thing minorities need to improve -- and honest assessment. Indeed, all they've done is hand out excuses to minorities for decades now and the result is that minorities keep doing worse and worse. How does that help anyone?

Excellent! We should ask that Pew give us a separate category. We're like the political-wing of Mensa! :)

I agree with you about liberals. They are great at projection. And the more they claim to be something, the more obvious it is that they are the exact opposite. So I have always found their condescending attack on conservatives as being stupid and themselves being enlightened and smart as rather telling.

Andrew, great point. Why would a smart person need to attack his opponents as stupid?

Projection is just part and parcel of the whole liberal package: they don't know how to build up, only to tear down.

tryanmax, I've met many brilliant people in my life, and I mean that in the true sense -- really crazy brilliant people. I've also met many smart, smart people. And NONE of those people very felt the need to denigrate anyone else on the issue of intelligence. It's only once you start getting down into the "pretender ranks" -- people who aren't nearly as smart at they want to believe, that you start to see people trying to show how smart they are compared to other people.

Very true about build up v. tear down. Even their attempts to build up (like welfare) ultimately just tear down. If liberalism were a company, it would have been broken decades ago from its 100% failure rate.
