His Royal Oiliness Barack Obama went off the TelePrompter for a brief moment during a speech in Quincy, Illinois last week, and accidentally let slip his true economic philosophy. In classic class warfare, socialist style, Obama proclaimed: "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money." Another "Joe the Plumber" moment for the genius from Chicago.
His prepared script was already bad enough. He led into the ad lib with the line that Democrats don't begrudge success that is "fairly earned." So his lead was already setting the stage for the socialist idea that government has the responsibility to determine what is fairly earned, and how much of it you should get to keep. He stuttered on after blowing the part where he scriptedly said "We're not, we're not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success" and "We don't want to stop them from fulfilling their responsibility to help grow our economy." He sandwiched the socialist gaffe in-between.
His ignorance of economics (and that of his advisers) was obvious long before he got around to revealing that he knows when you've earned enough. Since when is the duty of an entrepeneur to "grow the economy?" That's a delightful side-effect of the real goal--for the entrepeneur to grow his own personal wealth. Call it supply-side economics, trickle-down economics, or voodoo economics, but only St. Francis of Assisi would put everything he has on the line to "grow the economy" for some elusive and undefined public benefit. Only statists and socialists believe that government can and capitalists should just pour magic water on the ground and "grow an economy." It's part of why the stimulus bills are manure. They're "growing the economy."
Obama and his leftist core followers are like three-year old children who actually believe money grows on trees. In his own biography, probably written by domestic terrorist William Ayers, Obama describes how he hated the riders on the New Rochelle trains that took stock traders and bankers into New York City to work their evil ways. Obama's semi-literate wife in 2008 added "We [she and The One] left corporate America, which is a lot of what we're asking young people to do." She told the young women she was addressing "Don't go into corporate America. Become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers." You know, all those government-type jobs that suck up wealth rather than creating it. That labor theory of value has been discredited for over fifty years. Those professions may contribute to society, but they sure as hell don't "grow our economy." They live off our economy. A healthy economy is created by entrepeneurs and businessmen who build the economy by growing their own self-interested businesses.
You see, the Obamas, as Michelle puts it, "Made the choice to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry." She went on to decry those foul budding capitalists with "Many of our bright stars are going into corporate law, or hedge-fund management." And then I suppose they'll grow Simon Legree mustaches to twirl. Since The One earned about $5.5 million in the past fiscal year, I assume the "enough" that will get taxed at 100% is somewhere north of $6 million.
Obama may be a socialist, but he's not a crazy socialist. He knows where to draw the line. God help us all if we ever get a president like him who only earns only a mere $400,000 per year (the base presidential salary). Any medium-sized business, owned by an individual or small partnership is going to earn that much and more. But unlike the president, they have to pay their own expenses, overhead and taxes on the entire income. $400,000 ain't a bad salary, but for a business, that's probably no more than $50 or $60 thousand in actual earnings for the owner(s). Do you think that Obama and his ilk understand that?

You know, this is just one in a long series of comments he's made that really are consistent with socialist thought. Anyone who thinks they can decided when someone has earned enough or that they've made enough profit is spewing socialist thought and is economically ignorant.
Nice post.
Andrew: Thanks. So true about socialists. And Obama isn't satisfied with determining how much we should be allowed to earn, but then he can't even get the basic concepts of capitalism and individualism correct. And the bit about "growing the economy" was part of the prepared speech.
But ODL swears he's not a "socialist".
Lawhawk, Yeah, economics is not his strong suit, that's for sure! Just government greed.
Bev: So did Castro, right up until he won. Then he skipped right past socialist and went straight to "I am a Marxist-Leninist."
Andrew: I think he has two strong suits: Lying, and self-delusion.
The only time he tells the truth is when he accidentally goes off prompter and lets his socialism show. My sister and I were talking about this comment a few days ago, and apparently someone on one of the news shows asked if this was an accident or a mistake. The only accident was letting it slip. The phrasing and philosophy is no accident. Every once in a while, he lets us know who he really is.
Tam: The problem for Obama is that it's getting harder and harder for him to deny his socialist beliefs. His scripts try to obfuscate his philosophy by demonizing all capitalists and businesses and couching his beliefs in that traditional Marxist "helping the little guy" nonsense. He doesn't want people to know that his way of accomplishing his goals requires government control of every facet of our lives, including how much we're "allowed" to make. I truly think that it was a slip made by a facile liar who should never, never go off script.
Jeez, I love it when he goes off prompter! He said: "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money." But what he really meant was: "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money; of course, that doesn't apply to me."
Between him and Napolitano this week, it's been an open-mouth-insert-foot extravaganza!
WriterX: If the MSM covered these monumental gaffes half as well as they did with Bush, Obama couldn't win an election for dog-catcher outside of Chicago.
LawHawk,
This makes me wonder if Obama is jealous of Biden and his Bidenisms.
I know Obama is a socialist. I listened prior to his election. Unfortunately too many people didn't listen.
Joel: Obama's a bit more dangerous because people have come to expect Biden to have logorrhea, while an unfortunately large number of people still think there's something between those giant ears of Obama's besides popcorn soaked in urine.
And you're right. Far too many people bought into his "moderate/liberal" mantra and didn't listen to what he was actually saying. Every time he mentioned redistribution and rigid equality, they should have known that the philosophy comes straight out of Marx. He didn't look like a bomb-throwing radical race-baiter, and not enough people paid attention to his closest and dearest friends.
I believe the term is “Freudian slip,” as was stated up-thread, Barry will tell you who he is if you listen. This guy is a devout socialist/Marxist, without question, and makes November all the more important.
StanH: Obama is definitely a Marxist. I'm not sure "Freudian slip" is really correct in this case. A Freudian slip usually involves saying something intentionally, but slipping and revealing that the person actually believes the opposite or at least something quite different from the original words intended. Here, it was more of a simple gaffe, in that he wasn't supposed to say anything at all about limits on how much one should be allowed to earn. It was a statement that he shouldn't have made, rather than a statement that he botched up, accidentally revealing his true philosophy.
If someone makes 50 million a year making expensive watches, I don't care. If I don't want to give him more money, I don't buy his watch. When I don't have a choice about contributing to someone's paycheck, then I am a little concerned with what they make. Public sector employees making 60% more than the private sector is more a concern than what Bill Gates makes, in my opinion.
JB1000: But think of what a great job those government employees are doing in "growing the economy." Everything they do is pure fertilizer.
