Nancy Rewrites The Catechism

Back on May 6, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided it was time to instruct the Vatican and its representatives in the United States on the proper use of Catholic theology as it relates to illegal immigration. She allowed as how St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of San Francisco, would not like America's failure to welcome everybody who wants to come here, legally or not. And she quotes: "He said 'preach the gospel, sometimes use words.'"

So far, so good. Addressing a convocation of Catholic laity, she suggested that St. Francis was advancing the Biblical admonition that "faith without works is dead." So how does her love of St. Francis square with her views on immigration? Says Pelosi (quoting St. Francis): "The dignity and worth of every person is a Church precept." Well, it's a precept that is common throughout Christianity. But it's a little unusual to hear it coming from one of the most pro-abortion members of Congress. Somehow, human dignity applies only to people sneaking across our borders illegally, but not to the innocent baby in the womb.

Pelosi can find human dignity in law-breakers, but not in the baby waiting to join us in the adult world. Once having found "human dignity" cum amnesty for illegal immigrants in the Gospels and the words of St. Francis, she went on to re-write the Constitution. She anointed herself a spokesperson for the Church, and said about illegal immigration "I want you to speak about it from the pulpit. I want you to instruct your, whatever the communication is, the people, some of them, oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews and you have to tell them that this is a 'manifestation of our living the Gospels." Not exactly Shakespeare, but getting past the grammar and syntax, San Fran Nan is telling the laity and priesthood that the Church must involve itself directly in a political issue.

Pelosi is supported by and supports every Church-state separation group in the nation. She lectures us peasants constantly on keeping religion out of political arguments. Yet here she is, pronouncing amnesty as a matter to be preached from the pulpit by the clergy and the laity. I doubt that she can name a single Republican politician who has demanded that priests and pastors preach the anti-abortion message from the pulpit, let alone expecting the laity to push the priests and pastors out of the way if they fail in their duties.

She has essentially told her fellow Catholics to mind their own business about abortion, but to shout from the church steeple about amnesty. Though she was speaking to a Catholic lay group, clearly the message was intended to be applied from cardinals to parish priests. If they don't respond appropriately, the laity and church scholars should speak out against them.

Pelosi gets both Catholic doctrine and Christian principles wrong. The New Testament is entirely silent on the matter of immigration. It does say that a Christian's true home is heaven, not earth, where we merely sojourn. And Christ said to "render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's." Borders, the law, and immigration belong to Caesar and have nothing to do with human dignity as it relates to illegal immigration. The Bible, Old and New Testaments, admonishes us to be kind to the stranger within our gates. It doesn't say to hand over the key to the house to law-breakers. We already feed and clothe the strangers within our gates, not to mention the free medical care. And now we're supposed to make them members of our family without the least care to the chaos it will wreak.

I wish to throw a little scripture back at Nancy. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." That includes not making up the Bible as you go along in the same manner as you do the Constitution. You don't get to treat either document as a smorgasbord from which you pick only those things you like and ignore or distort the rest. And most of all, your job is to legislate and govern, not to preach from the pulpit.

She's an idiot. She also tried to justify various of her prior acts by saying "God gave us free will." To which the resident Bishop informed her that you have free will because you have a choice between right and wrong. . . free will does not make wrong into right just because you have the choice.

Of all the politicians in all the gin joints in all the world, San Fran Nan comes the closest to being the living embodiment of the term "loathing." From her vacuous over the top speeches to her horrible botoxed frozen smile, what is there to like?

Hawk - good post as always, but I think I found a typo in your scripture quote. Shouldn't it be "study to SHREW thyself approved unto God?" (just kidding, couldn't resist.

Tennessee: I think "shrew" is in her version. LOL It is funny. When I was little, the King James version was the only one used at church or in my home. When I was first learning to sound out words, I wondered why anyone would want to "shoe himself approved unto God."

Andrew: She is an idiot, isn't she? I'm glad to hear at least one Bishop was able to explain the obvious to her. Too many theologians seem to be going through some kind of personal crisis because they know illegal immigration is a monumental problem, but are afraid of looking like they're lacking in Christian charity. Which brings me to the old expression "charity begins at home."

It doesn't do an alcoholic any good to provide him with booze, and it doesn't do anyone any good to tell law breakers that it's OK to break the law. I don't expect priests to report illegals in their parishes, but I don't expect them to encourage them either. Instead they should be teaching them "Thou shalt not break into thy neighbor's house."

As a Catholic, she disgraces Catholicism and violates all of the moral Catholic beliefs. She needs to be excommunicated. She is one of those that like her trying to destroy the country from within, she is also trying to destroy the Church and Church Tradition from within. She sickens me and irks me so bad. The Catholic Church is not for open borders as many media outlets have spun.

Teresa: That's pretty much the same thing my Catholic sons-in-law and lifelong best friend have told me. All three are of Mexican heritage, by the way. Check back in tomorrow. I'll be covering how academicians and some clerics have been dealing with liberation theology as it relates to government controlled "income re-distribution."

Lawhawk, to be fair that is because it works the other way around, the priests and pastors are the ones demanding the the politicians support an anti-pbabortion message. This is Pelosi's problem, she does not understand that she is supposed to listen to the people and not the people listen to her.

Individualist: Pelosi listens. The problem is she only listens to people who agree with her. That's becoming a rarer breed every day, thank God.

It would almost be comical if it wasn't so infuriating, not to mention nauseating.

she makes a mockery of her supposed faith, and because she lies even in the most sacred should be enough for those who support her to question all her motives.

interesting sidenote: there will be no illegals in heaven. if you're there, you did what was necessary to get in, no shortcuts allowed. if it's good enough for heaven...

I wonder what Pelosi's take on John 10:1 through the first part of verse 3 is where Jesus himself said

1"I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. 3The watchman opens the gate for him...

Granted, Jesus is talking about salvation, but the parallel can be drawn with immigration. The person who enters illegally is, by definition, a criminal.
The person who enters the US legally (through the gate) is welcomed and has a voice.

Clew: You're right. I laughed 'til I threw up. LOL

Patti: I gotta admit, I never thought of it quite that way. But I like it.

USArtguy: Excellent point. Of course, all of Christ's parables could be applied to salvation, but most, like the one you cited, can be applied to life here on earth as well. Thank you for reminding me of a Biblical note that I had forgotten until you brought it up.

Great article Lawhawk, and is further proof that liberalism is a mental disorder.

StanH: Thanks. The nice part is that it's a mental disease that can be cured with enough time, effort and thought. I'm living proof! LOL
