Really, Congressman Hoyer?

Is it possible that the Democrats are so out of touch that they don't realize that we talk amongst ourselves now on something Al Gore invented called the "world wide web"? If the twisted logic of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is any proof, then I would have to say the answer is a resounding "Yes" they are...

Steny Hoyer had this to say about the pending sunset of the Bush Tax Cuts:

“We have no intention of allowing the Republican tax increase — that their policies would lead to — to go into effect for working Americans, period. We’re going to act and make sure that the Republican phase out and increase in taxes does not end as they provided for in the laws they passed.”
Oh, just go to the tape -

If you look behind Mr. Hoyer's head, I think that backdrop reads: "We Make It Up, America!"

Hmmm, that is not quite how I remember it, so this is where the "world wide web" [or I think they call it the "interwebs" something like that anyway] comes in really handy. In a few short seconds, I found the most interesting information about how Mr. Hoyer voted on Tax Reform in the last ten years including those pending "Republican Tax Increases":
  • Voted YES on extending AMT exemptions to avoid hitting middle-income. (Jun 2008)
  • Voted YES on paying for AMT relief by closing offshore business loopholes. (Dec 2007)
  • Voted NO on retaining reduced taxes on capital gains dividends. (Dec 2005)
  • Voted NO on providing tax relief and simplification. (Sep 2004)
  • Voted NO on making permanent an increase in the child tax credit. (May 2004)
  • Voted NO on permanently eliminating the marriage penalty. (Apr 2004)
  • Voted NO on making the Bush tax cuts permanent. (Apr 2002)
  • Voted NO on $99 B economic stimulus: capital gains income tax cuts. (Oct 2001)
  • Voted NO on Tax cut package of $958 B over 10 years. (May 2001)
  • Voted NO on eliminating the Estate Tax ("death tax"). (Apr 2001)
  • Voted NO on eliminating the "marriage penalty". (Jul 2000)
  • Voted NO on $46 billion in tax cuts for small business. (Mar 2000)
Across the board, Congressman Hoyer voted "No" on any kind of tax relief. Well, except for voting "Yes" to extend tax cuts in the form of exemptions to the AMT a/k/a the "millionaires' tax". And now, he wants to take CREDIT for the tax cuts for which he would have denied us and wants to now blame the Republicans for the pending "increase" that we wouldn't be facing if the Republicans did not have to include the "sunset" clause to get the other Democrats to vote for the tax relief in the first place.

Does he really thinks that we are all really THAT stupid that we won't talk amongst ourselves [see "world wide web"] and see him for the hypocrite that he is? If the above is any proof, then I would have to say the answer is a resounding "Yes", he really does...

Wow, just WOW! This goes so far beyond spin that it's positively insane! Republican tax increases?

Doesn't your soul fall out of your body when you tell a lie that big? He must be wrapped in duct tape under his suit.

In any event, I guess the Democrats better not be too ready to rely on his estimate that they'll only lose 28 seats in the House!

Mind boggling isn't it? I have said this before. They really think we are this stupid and I guess their fellow Democrats really are. This video would make a fabulous "attack ad" against Hoyer. Unfortunately he isn't running again until 2014.

What he THINKS he is doing is making it look like the Democrats are keeping an Obama campaign promise to not increase taxes on the middle class. Of course they will vote to override the "sunset", but how much you want to bet they will attach all sorts of catastrophic pork to it
And, see, one more thing to add to the long list of Obama's accomplishments.

Of course we know that they never intended to let the tax cuts sunset.

Bev, It is mind-boggling in it's shamelessness. They demanded the sunset provision because they would not agree to anything that didn't expire.

Now they're claiming that this sunset provision somehow was the Republicans' attempts to raise taxes? That's like a robber claiming that he got cheated by the home owner not having enough stuff in his house!

And that we're supposed to buy this is truly offensive. It's like he thinks we're all idiots.

Of course, maybe his supporters are idiots. In fact, I'm pretty sure they are. Haven't they been cheering the whole time Hoyer and his ilk have been demanding an end to the Bush "tax cuts for the rich"?

Stunning.

Bev - your post deserves to be on the front page of NY Times, Wall Street Journal, WAPO, and the Knoxville News Sentinel (and that's just for starters!)

Bev: The sad truth is that these clowns really do think we're all stupid. Fortunately, they haven't read enough Lincoln to know that you can't fool all the people all the time. They're going to find out in November, but they probably won't learn from it.

Their favorite ploy for years has been to go hysterical, shouting "they're going to throw granny out into the street with these massive cuts to Social Security." That always came after the Republicans voted to slow the rate of increase in payments so it wouldn't grow faster than the overall cost of living. But anybody who would believe that would also believe that Obama could put nationalized health care into effect without raising taxes a dime. Liars count on people to be stupid enough to believe their lies over and over again.

Andrew, that's exactly it - thief...congressman - not much difference.

Thanks TJ, but I have to give Matt Drudge the credit on posting the video. It is amazing though how it hasn't hit the liberal blogs yet as a talking point. I wonder if Steny will be talking about this on the Sunday talk show circuit? I will place a bet we never hear "Republican Tax Increase" ever again. Not even Nancy and Barack can be so stupid to think this will work...but then again.

But LawHawk, as I have said before, they really do forget that we can talk to each other now. It surprises me...I mean Algore did invent the interweb thingy...

Unbelievable! Well, actually no, very believable.

Bev, I think the reason it hasn't hit Huffpo as a talking point is because they have all been brainwashed to believe that the Bush tax cuts were for the ultra rich, and they want them repealed. The poor libbies couldn't square all those contradictions, so it's best to leave them in the dark.

Of course, I forgot to add that Hoyer is against anh permanent "middle income" tax cut because he says in June 2010 "...we're lying to ourselves and our children if we say we can maintain our current level of entitlements spending, defense spending and taxation without bankruptign our country." Uhhh, yeah, Steny we know that...that's why we...oh nevermind.

Not only do they think we’re stupid, we proved it in ’08, 53% were dumb enough to vote for Barry. The problem they have now, we’re paying attention, and enough of us stay out on the tiles fencing with the statist, their BS is challenged daily, and they don’t like it one little bit…oh well. As Lawhawk pointed out, The Great Washington Turkey Shoot will commence soon, and Perhaps Steny Hoyer can be put out to pasture or in jail.

Bev,

I wonder where he gets the chutzpah. I also wonder if people who are in government think the internet is only for them. I mean the internet in all it's glory can be used by anyone.

CrisD! I bet our foreheads look exactly the same! I have developed a permanent red spot in the middle of mine from striking myself repeatedly with the palm of my hand. Funny, it doesn't hurt so much anymore, but I may need to wear bangs to cover it up...

Joel, I think they think that the internet is irrelevant to discussion. That is why they pound Fox News and hail other broadcast/print media. They think THAT is still where the "real" discussion is (or should be) - amongst the professional pundits, politicians, and "experts". But as we, the Commentarama-ians know, it's not...

#1) the DO think we are that stupid.

#2) They really DON'T care that we talk to each other.

#3) They WILL do what they want and then continue to spin it. It's the clinton tactic of if you retell a lie enough it becomes truth for some people.

#4) they HAVE to go.

Zoiks!

If that's not Orwellian Doublespeak, I don't know what is.

He keeps referring to the pre-2001 upper level tax as not harming the economy all the while leaving out that upper level taxes will have to increase to get there.

Astounding.

It was Democrats who howled like the Wolf Man because the Republican tax "cuts" weren't "paid for" (meaning raising taxes elsewhere). It was the Democrats who complained over and over the Bush tax "cuts" only helped the "rich". It was the Democrats who demanded they last no more than 10 years. It's the Democrats who refused to make them permanent. Now somehow it's the Republican tax increase? Wow. There are liars, then there are congressmen.
