The Little Liberal(s) Who Cried Hostage

My next article is up at Big Hollywood! Go take a look: (Linky, Linky)! (It's at the film site too.)

What is it with Democrats and hostages? Apparently, Democrats aren't happy unless Americans are being held hostage. In fact, they've been using the word "hostage taker" like it's some kind of talking point. Imagine that. And these are the same people who whined about needing a new tone in politics after Gabrielle Giffords was shot. Observe.

When Giffords was shot in January of this year, Obama finally spoke somewhat eloquently (at least in part). Here is what he read from TOTUS:

“At a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized, at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do, it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”
I, for one, was glad to hear the Democrats planned to change their ways. Yep no more threats to kill Bush or Palin's family (LINK). So how did they do with this new tone? Not so well. Just look at the last couple days . . see if you can spot the pattern:

● August 3, 2011: Democrats attack the Republicans over the FAA partial shutdown using the words “hostage taking” repeatedly.
● Barbara Boxer: “This is a made-up crisis. This is government by hostage taking.”
● Steny Hoyer: “Unfortunately, Republicans continue to practice the politics of confrontation and hostage taking.”
● Chuck Schumer: “The issue is not essential air service, it’s not even a labor issue. It’s the issue of hostage taking.”
● Harry Reid: “I again say, Speaker Boehner, stop this nonsense.”

I guess Harry didn’t get the memo.
● August 1, 2011: Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Doyle referred to the Tea Party as “a small group of terrorists [who] have made it impossible to spend any money.” Slow Joe Biden agreed: “They have acted like terrorists.” Yes el Guapo. . . a plethora of terrorists.

● August 1, 2011: Unhinged Chris “The Tingler” Matthews said this about the debt ceiling negotiations:
“Why did Obama let this develop for six months. . . this drum roll of the Republicans saying, ‘We’ve got the baby. You don’t get the baby back unless you pay us?’ Why do you let the other side have the baby, to use kidnapping terms?”
So Republicans are child kidnappers? Earlier in the day, The Tingle said that Obama should have said: “[I will accept] no game playing, no hostage-taking, no terrorizing this country with the debt ceiling. I'm not going to negotiate with you guys.” Then he said: “We elected President Obama, the American people, but we're stuck with Bush's economic policies because they keep hostage-taking to keep Bush in power.”

I guess the Democrats were hostage taking for Bush when they had the filibuster proof Senate?

This, by the way, is only the latest instance where The Tingle has become unhinged. On July 5, 2011, The Tingle said that the GOP had become terrorists: “Well, the GOP has become the Wahhabis of American government, willing to risk bringing down the whole country in the service of their anti-tax ideology.”

And here I thought we had nothing to fear from Islam?

● July 29, 2011: The Democratic herd was at it before the budget deal:
● Steny Hoyer: “The Republicans are holding hostage the credit of the United States of America.”
● Debbie Schultz: “. . . our Republican colleagues to hold our economy hostage.”
● Harry Reid: “The Republican Party is holding our economy hostage.”
● Louise Slaughter: “. . . hold the debt ceiling hostage.”
● Chuck Schumer: “. . . hold America hostage.”
● Sheldon Whitehouse: “. . . one party is holding the country hostage.”
● John Olver: “. . . the debt limit has never before been held hostage.”
● Barbara Lee: “. . . Republicans are holding our economy hostage.”
● Earl Blumenauer: “. . . willing to take hostage the debt ceiling.”
● Jason Altmire: “Stop holding America’s credit rating hostage.”
● Rosa DeLauro: “The Republican majority continues to hold the American economy hostage.”
● Chris Van Hollen: “Let’s not hold the entire American economy hostage.”
● John Larson: “. . . ideological hostage situation.”
● Lloyd Doggett: “The only belt they’re really tightening is right around the neck of those hostages.”
● James Clyburn: “. . . holding the American economy hostage.”
● Jesse Jackass Jr.: “This president is being treated differently! No other president has been stuck up, shook down, or held hostage!” Right... it’s racist hostage taking! Wooo, that’s much worse.
I guess they swapped the Donkey for a Parrot. But seriously, who looks more like a hostage taker:

Ran Paul, who needs to stay somewhat civil lest he be accused of being a “hateful hostage taking” responded thusly: “With the president holding the American economy hostage, I would prefer to think of myself as a freedom fighter.”

Personally, I see the Democrats more as a gang of rapists. So a little hostage taking is probably justified to stop them.

Let us continue. . .

● July 31, 2011: The New York Times wrote (in crayon):
There is little to like about the tentative agreement between Congressional leaders and the White House except that it happened at all. The deal would avert a catastrophic government default . . The rest of it is a nearly complete capitulation to the hostage-taking demands of Republican extremists.
And none of this is new:

● Here is what Obama himself has read from TOTUS:
● December 12, 2010: “I’ve said before that I felt that the middle-class tax cuts were being held hostage to the high-end tax cuts. I think it's tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers, unless the hostage gets harmed.”

"Unless"? Don’t you usually want to negotiation before they harm the hostage? I can see Hostage Negotiator Obama now: “We won’t talk to you unless you harm some hostages. . . go ahead. . . wing a few.”

● September 8, 2010: “So let me be clear to Mr. Boehner and everyone else: we should not hold middle class tax cuts hostage any longer.”
There was also an article I can’t find anymore which included a ton of references by Obama to hostage taking. It seems that every time one of his policies isn’t agreed to immediately, the baby starts whining about hostage taking. It kind of makes you wonder where he went to Madras doesn’t it?

It is one more example of, as you say, the obvious nature of talking points. It is one thing Rush has done a nice job of keeping track of over the years. There is a definite narrative that is being produced, and everybody from politicians to their buds in the media use the exact same template. The reason is obvious. Repeat something often enough and it becomes the truth (or at least defines the narrative and debate.)

Objectively, there time running Congress and with the presidency has been nothing but a disaster. So, spin it a different way and hope for the best. With Giffords, they had no intention of wanting things to be more civil other than to blunt criticism of Obama and maybe revive the gun control debate. Fortunately, they have done this so poorly that people generally are no longer buying their particular brand of bullshit.

Andrew: They're hostages and we're terrorists. Damn! I thought things were more complicated than that. Thanks for helping us to understand why the Democrats are able to save us from ourselves.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, I think that's true. I think they see this as the perfect cover up because leftists are just dumb enough to believe that the reason the Democrats made such a mess was that they were being held hostage by the evil Republicans.

To me, it's really pretty despicable and it shows that we should not trust anything that comes out of the mouth of a leftist -- they are like robots, repeating what they've been told.

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, Yep, that's us -- terrorists and hostage takers. Oh well. If that's true, then I want my share of the money from the next taking.

Joel Farnham said...

Andrew,

How about a free invisible Commentarama t-shirt for the first one to find the new journolist? There has got to be a new one running. Too many people from too many places are hyping these two words. Hostage Takers.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, That sounds eminently reasonable! I'm 100% sure there is another journolist. As you say, it's just too many people in too many places.

But let's also not discount the idea that liberals are good at shamelessly parroting what they hear at meetings and on television. So many of these guys (especially the Congress critters) are just repeating what they've been told to say.

They really should trade in the donkey for a parrot.

CrispyRice said...

Yup - talking points! I'm with Jed - I love how Rush does the montages of them.

Tam said...

I guess "racist" and "extremist" wore out...

AndrewPrice said...

Crispy, That's always very effective when Rush does that. I honestly wish that people like Fox would steal that idea because that is the sort of "evidence" that should be shown to as many people as possible.

AndrewPrice said...

Tam, LOL! Great point! Jesse Jr. is hinting at "racist" in his "this president gets treated differently" garbage, but it seems that word doesn't have much meaning anymore with the public. So I guess now we're hostage takers and terrorists.

I wonder where they go from there? Genocide? Rapists? I don't know, what else would be worse?

BevfromNYC said...

Joel, I believe Sen. Chuck Schumer (i D iot/NY) is the "Dem Talking Points" Czar. It was his consolation prize for Harry Reid retaining his Majority Leader position in the Senate in 2010.

He is the one tasked with telling everyone which incendiary phrases to use to describe fellow American who do not agree with Dem policies.

My Rep. Carolyn Maloney (i D iot/NYC) took a different approach. After calling Tea Party people "terrorists" and "hostage takers", she doubled down with: -

"If President Obama came in with a cure for cancer, they would have turned that down, too," Maloney said, according to the New York Daily News.

Ed said...

Andrew, The Democrats are the real hostage takers. This is the hostage takers calling the police names.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I like the (i D iot)... very appropriate.

What amazes me about this whole thing is the shamelessness. You can't deal with people who spew hate as a matter of policy. There simply is no point in it.

Also, it's amazing that their idiot followers don't grasp that they are being fed a line. They buy into this stuff hook line and sinker even though this is as reliable as a used car dealer telling you that the car you are looking at is made of solid gold.

It just boggles the mind that people believe this.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, Well said. This really is the crook pointing fingers. I like Ran Paul's statement about being a freedom fighter! :-)

AndrewPrice said...

By the way, I saw the Chris Matthews MSNBC ad last night. He's questioning anyone who questions Obama's patriotism. Yet, it doesn't bother him to call an entire half of the country "hostage takers" and "terrorists." Shameless tingler.

Notawonk said...

andrew: i like to think that libwankers receive a memo every morning of "scary, intimidating words of POWER!" that they are asked, nay, encouraged, to work into their every day public speaking. and one word is the word of the day, like a bad version of a "learn a new word" of the day. apparently "terrorist" and "hostage-taking" are new favs.

my old words still work for them though. idiots.

AndrewPrice said...

Patti, "Idiots" is an oldy and a goldy and still so applicable -- there's no reason to change.

I like your vision of this. I can see them all eagerly waiting their memos.... "what word am I going to learn today?"

then they need to hire someone to teach them how to pronounce the word. . . "No, Mrs. Pelosi, the word is pronounced 'evil' not 'me.'"

Joel Farnham said...

If Obama came in with a cure for cancer, I would turn him down. Knowing him, he would have given euthanasia drugs instead of the cancer cure. With his drugs the patients would have to wait six months for it to take effect then keel over suddenly. Then someone in the media would say, "That is the effect we were looking for. Give 'em more drugs Barack!"

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, If Obama showed up with a cure for cancer, I'd wonder where he got it and then I'd test the heck out of it before I ever gave it to an American. He's on a verify and double verify policy in my book.

Joel Farnham said...

With the way they are going, they are going to find a "miracle drug" that "cures whatever ails you" and demand that all cancer, diabetes, and Tea Partiers take it. The media will say, "Do it for the Children."

AndrewPrice said...

And my answer to that is: "you first libbies."

BevfromNYC said...

I would just be happy if Obama would keep his yap shut. Every time he opens his mouth the stock market plunges. The Dow dropped 500+ points today. That's his birthday present from Wall Street...

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Today was insane. In fact, the last three days have been insane. I have stocks that have lost 30% in three days. I'm really getting sick of this.

And yeah, he needs to learn to shut his trap. He had done nothing but hurt the market because it has no faith in him at all.

Tennessee Jed said...

This is slightly off topic, but since I will be away for the next three days, I think I will mention it. To steal a phrase from you, Andrew "call me crazy" but I am not turned on by any actual Republican candidate. There are two guys who articulate and know what needs to be done, Ryan and Rubio. Senator Rubio is the guy I think will send this terrible socio-list hack back home. Let's draft him damnit. He certainly is no less seasoned in reality as B.O. And damn it, he is good. The sun is shining on him.

O.K. it's a thought anyhow.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, I'm frankly depressed about our candidates. I would trade them all for Ryan or Rubio or Allen West. We seem to have a talented farm team going, but our majors just aren't very good -- I like some of them, but they just aren't fighting well enough.

I don't know what we can do about it.

Ed said...

Jed, I'm with you. I'd take Rubio in a minute.

DUQ said...

This is totally justifyable hostage taking. I can't believe this many references to hostage taking aren't part of a coordinated effort, which apparently involves journalists.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

"What is it with Democrats and hostages? Apparently, Democrats aren't happy unless Americans are being held hostage."

Someone may have already mentioned it (haven't read all the comments yet) but just in case:

This is another case of donk projection.
Virtually everytime the donks demogogue the GOP, Tea Party, Conservatives, and individual conservatives with this lying, misleading and deceptive propaganda, you can be sure the donks are the ones actually doing what they accuse us of.

Who has held military pay and medicare hostage (more than once)?

Who is always ready to throw grandma under the bus and blame conservatives?

Who's policies have held the market hostage?

Who's policies and idiotic rhetoric has encouraged massive destruction of stocks and rising unemployment and inflation?

Who is acting just like Carter except worse?

Who offers stupid platitudes that don't make sense and is too important to trouble themselves to submit written plans to help our economy but have no problem blasating the GOP's sensible plans?

Which party has sabotaged our economy with more out of control spending and promises of "free stuff" that'll cost several times more than what it would normally cost without their interference?

Which party and President have done nothing but divide people?

Which party is the party of envy and class warfare and sound exactly like Hugo Chavez and Castro?

If the donks wanna bring up political hostage taking and terrorism I say we do what Andrew has done: demonstrate who has really been doing it!
Can't argue with the results.

It's dreadfully clear what party is in desperate need of psychiatric care and it ain't the GOP.

Superb post, Andrew!

AndrewPrice said...

Ed and Jed, I would be pretty happy with Rubio too.

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, Justifiable hostage taking! LOL! Nice idea. Also probably a pretty accurate idea.

Unknown said...

Let us not forget NY Times columnist and Democrat boot-licker Maureen Dowd. In one paragraph, she called Tea Partiers and Republicans cannibals, zombies and vampires (one time it was cannibal vampires). We had to leave it to leading proponent of capitalism, former KGB head Vladimir Putin to call us parasites.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Ben!

I too think conservatives need to start pointing these things out we should be exposing all of their talking points and pointing out how they have been the ones doing what they are accusing us of doing -- "Donk projection" is right. This is exactly what the Democrats have been doing and they are trying to make it sounds like the Republicans are the ones doing what they've been doing.

Good list too of things they've held hostage to get their way.

And especially good point about which party is dividing the country -- that's a Democratic specialty. That's probably the most despicable thing about the Donks -- they have spent decades trying to break America apart into warring tribes. Someone needs to call them on that. It's time we stopped them from getting away with that.

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, I'm not kidding when I say that this burns me up that these quasi-fascist/socialist bastards are out there spewing hate speech and then turn around and can whine about being the victims of "hateful Republicans."

I seriously think the Republicans either need to start calling them on this firmly and clearly, or they need to start living up to the reputation. It's time to start terrorizing the Democrats. Use the levers of power to crush them.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

I agree Andrew!

We should send our representitives to Evil University.
Or have Allen West whip them into shape with a GOP Evil Bootcamp, LOL!

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, I honestly think the Democrats wouldn't know what hit them. And the best part is they've been crying wolf for so long that there is nothing they could do to let people know that the Republicans are finally fighting for real.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

I couldn't agree more, Andrew.

It's time conservatives start their own journolist and coordinate some major attacks on the donks.

Hit 'em fast and hard!

The difference will be we have the truth on our side.
But the truth doesn't help if our representatives don't use it.

Plus, we have tons of footage we can use against the donks and Obama.

Now would be a good time to repeat Obama's latest talking point of being "halfway" done with destroying...I mean "fixing" our economy.

Because apparently, 500 points down ain't enough.

Open up a major can of whupass on them and take them to the proverbial woodshed!

Consult great minds like you guys, Iowahawk, Gutfield, etc..
Put the donks on defense with our narratives for a change and leave 'em no place to hide!

Semper Fi! and Anchors Aweigh!

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Ben! I agree. It's time that conservatives learned to fight back using the same tactics. It's time to start presenting a unified front and to give no quarter and to stop let our own people weaken our hand before we play it.

Only a fool lets the other side run wild with any tactic they want without every pushing back. It hasn't won us the respect of it, it has only made us look weak and let the democrats continue to exploit that weakness. This must change.

StanH said...

I think Sarah Palin hit it out of the park, this lady knows how to counter punch.

“…Independent patriotic Americans who desire fiscal sanity in our beloved nation being called terrorists, heck, Sean, if we were real domestic terrorists, shoot, President Obama would be wanting to pal around with us, wouldn’t he? I mean, he didn’t have a problem palling around with a Bill Ayers back in the day when he kicked off his political career in Bill Ayers’ apartment and then, you know, shaking hands with [Venezuelan President Hugo] Chavez and saying, he doesn’t need any preconditions with meeting dictators or wanting to read U.S. Miranda rights to alleged suspected foreign terrorists. No, if we were all domestic terrorists, I think President Obama wouldn’t have a problem with us.”

Very quick on her feet, don’t you think.

Great read Andrew.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

Stan: That is funny!

I think this is what Palin needs some good seasoning and a chance to hone her skills.

She is very effective where she is at the moment and has the cajones to do it.

Perhaps she could loan a cajone to Pawlenty and McCotter.
They could definitely use one right about now.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, Thanks! I agree, she's quick on her feet and she isn't afraid to attack. We need more of that. The Republicans need to stop playing the politics of bygone eras and fight fire with fire.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, Tell me about it. It's really depressing that the best two guys in the primary policy-wise are basically invisible when it comes to politics.

StanH said...

Ben & Andrew.

That was a great interview on Hannity. She threw that out extemporaneously, I jumped up and cheered…bull’s-eye! “If” our guys would do more of this Barry would be running for cover.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, I don't know what the answer is, but our guys really need to buy backbones or something. Fortunately, times are changing. . . slowly, but they are changing.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

She took a nice shot at Romney too, LOL!
A richly deserved shot I might add.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, So true. It depresses me that he might end up being our nominee.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

I hear ya. At this point I'm hoping that Perry runs.
He has proven he has the courage to stand by his convictions and he doesn't shy away from a fight.

I don't agree with his views 100% but I can't think of a possible candidate I do. His flaws are essentially insignificant in view of his strengths.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, I'm leery of Perry, BUT he seems to be better than the current crop. So he may end up becoming my choice by default... if he runs.
