Not that long ago, I had never heard of Chick-fil-A. If San Francisco has one of their restaurants, it's news to me. But now that the radical left (usually posing as the "gay community") has decided that the owners of Chick-fil-A are dangerous bigots, I thought I might look into it.
Oh, the horror of it all. The company was founded in the South by a family of good old-fashioned Southern Christians. Churchgoers all, they believe in observing the day which the Lord hath made, and despite losing one day in seven of business, the restaurants are closed on Sundays so the family and all their employees can attend church. How primitive! They are also not particularly shy about expressing their personal Christian views and values, but do not make that an integral part of their business operations. Most of that didn't cause them much negative publicity.
Then they made the big mistake. In response to a question from an interviewer doing a piece on the history and growth of the company, the CEO of Chick-fil-A, Dan T. Cathy, did the unthinkable. He voiced his opposition to the liberal cause du jour. Cathy stated that his company (basically, his family) doesn't accept the concept of gay marriage. In no time at all, The New York Times and all its fellow-travelers in the mainstream media denounced the family, the company and the restaurants as homophobic. Great indignation and threats of boycotts immediately followed as the liberals discovered that the Cathy family is violently opposed to all things gay and beautiful.
What did Cathy say that so incensed the uber-tolerant left? "As it relates to society in general, I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.'" I've heard much stronger messages being thundered from Baptist pulpits, but it doesn't leave a lot of doubt as to how the Cathys feel about gay marriage. And so what?
What The Times and the leftist claque missed was what else Cathy had to say. "We do not discriminate against gays. We would never refuse service to a gay person. We appreciate their business, and welcome their patronage. We would never deny employment to a person because he is gay." That tolerance is not returned by the ever-incensed left and gay lobby. "Shut 'em down." Democrats in cities dominated by leftists who are doing their best to bring down Western civilization are looking into current Chick-fil-A business permits and are determined to prevent any future growth of the company in their oh-so-tolerant cities.
For expressing the family's personal and religious opposition to gay marriage, the left has decided to act as if the Cathys and Chick-fil-A are using their profits (which are considerable) to fund some sort of gay holocaust. Thinking that opposing gay marriage is tantamount to wanting all gay people dead, big city Democratic leaders nationwide have condemned the mote in the Cathys' eyes. They simply will not tolerate intolerance (is that some sort of internal inconsistency?). Begone, Chick-fil-A, and take your Bibles and scriptures with you!
Mayors in several of the nation's biggest cities have spoken out against Chick-fil-A, but the biggest irony comes from Chicago's mayor, Rahm Emanuel. Emanuel indignantly stated that Chick-fil-A does not reflect "Chicago values." One can only hope he's right. Chicago values seem to include rapidly-rising murder rates, crony socialism, and thoroughly dishonest politics. Still, Emanuel has an ally that he recently welcomed to town. Calypso Louis Farrakhan has brought his Nation of Islam shock troops to Chicago to stop the violence.
Emanuel welcomed Farrakhan and condemned Chick-fil-A all on the same day. How his head didn't explode is beyond me. The Cathys welcome gays, but oppose gay marriage. Farrakhan espouses a strange and cultish but fundamentalist Islamic view of gays and gay marriage. Farrakhan's best plan for gay marriage is to burn down the church in which the marriage is being performed, preferably with the groom-groom or bride-bride couple inside along with all those tolerant congregants supporting them. But hey, Farrakhan's black, so it's important to overlook his slightly eccentric views.
From a personal point of view, the only chicken I really like is the deep-fried kind, preferably with grease dripping down my arms as I savor the crispy skin and internal tenderness of a drumstick. That's not what Chick-fil-A serves. Theirs is basically a healthy menu of baked chicken and chicken sandwiches. Their waffle fries are not quite so healthy, but who cares? On Wednesday last, I had an appointment in Bakersfield, so I went out of my way to see if there might be a Chick-fil-A in the area. Sonofagun, there was one just three blocks from my appointment. I very purposefully decided to have lunch there.
For those of you who haven't tried Chick-fil-A, I highly recommend it. It's not elegant, it's just plain good food, nicely-packaged, and pleasantly served. And more than that, I am hoping that many of you are intolerant of intolerance (there we go again). Former Governor (and presidential candidate) Mike Huckabee is promoting August 1 as "Eat at Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day." It's a counter-demonstration well worth participating in. You will be supporting free speech and freedom of religion by doing so, and you don't have to oppose gay marriage to see the correctness of it.
I'm not Mike Huckabee's biggest fan by any means. Nor am I a fan of his co-sponsor of the counter-boycott, Rick Santorum. But since the Huffington Post has declared that Mike Huckabee is "not necessarily a good ally for Chick-fil-A," I will temporarily suspend my lack of enthusiasm for him.

I love Chick Fil A. They not only have great food but there service is phenominal. Every store owner I have met is personally active in the the community. They are are always promoting walks and runs for charities from the religious (Baptist Missions) to the secular MArch of Dimes, hospitals etc.
The employees are taught to be courteous and the stores go out of their way to try to get honor students to work for them. This follows to the minorities they hire as well. They have an emphasis on schools and they find the best people in all schools not just the private institutions.
Living in Florida we have had them for decades. They started out as just stores in malls down here but have the best tasting and healthiest fast food. Wight watchers recommend them becuase their grilled sandwiches were only five points and the fried were eight.
Instead of fries you can get a fruit plate.
What really bothers me about leftists is that they presume to think they have an authority to dictate what people think. The fact of the matter is that the majority of people all support civil unions. No one has a problem recognizing the coupling and partnership of gay people. Even evangelicals will cede to this. It is the fact that there is an insistence that the union is no different from a marraige that is the problem. It just is not and that is the fault of biology and not anyone's intolerance.
The left are really a bunch of dictatorial monsters. What a bunch of hipocrits. I cannot tell you the number of times I havce heard some leftist hack condemning christianity. Making rude jokes about bringing back the Lions (ala Rome circa 30 AD). And the constant whining that chritsians can't tolerate them and allow them to think and feel as they want. Problem is that the intolerant Christians they speak of never seem to exist. Oh they find some cult like group in Texas with maybe 50 followers that say some pretty deranged stuff but the truth is that their promotion of the group probably doubled their membership. Meanwhile they ac t five times worse than even this group they "found" and I say "found" because as far as I know the "group" is nothing more than a web page.
I am sorry but I am really sick of these Proglydite monsters. They really disgust me! And I don;t even give a crap about the issue one way or another.
LawHawk,
Chick-fil-A is not the first restaurant I would pick, but it has a decent menu and I enjoyed the meal I did have. I too will go to the "eat in" on Aug 1.
What is surprising is how many people are getting tired of being "dictated to" by lefties. What to think, where to eat, who to shun. It is as if some how they decided that they were the social arbiters of our lives. People of all colors are saying publicly, FU, I am going to Chick-fil-A. This has blown up in the militant gay's collective faces. There is a lot of push-back.
Chick-fill-A has been huge in the southeast. I always admired the fact they closed on Sundays and loved to get their annual calendars which had pin-up pictures of dairy cows. Their ad campaign "eat mor-chickin' is as funny as it gets. Liberals pretend to preach tolerance, but in reality do not.
I take my family to Chick-fil-A twice a week. The wraps and the fries are good and every Tuesday my local Chick-fil-A has a family night hosted by a clown, a DJ or someone along those lines.
Turnout was fine when I was there a couple days ago.
Local politicians have the power to hurt Chick-fil-A but I hope something else catches their attention.
I made the point of going too “Chick-fil-A” yesterday, and the restaurant had a line around the building going through the drive through, which is typical at lunch…cool.
Truett Cathy is the Founder, he established, “closed on Sundays” from the beginning. They started here in the Atlanta area, and haven’t changed their faith, or business model, much to the chagrin of Wall Street. I’ve worked several times with the company on film post production, looking at hundreds of employee interviews, and stockholder meetings, they practice what they preach. As Individualist said, they seek out the best and brightest, building proud, honorable young people that will benefit us all as a nation. What’s wrong with being kind, courteous, clean, and bright, with a strong moral foundation? …nothing. Unless your goal is the exact opposite, crude, rude, dirty and dull, believing in nothing but Barry (OWS). You can look for the Cathy’s to hold firm. The wacko-loons of the left have met their match with this company. It could be a great object study for the rest of corporate America…we’ll see.
I would love to participate in Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, but we don't have any around where I live. Oh well, the next time we're up in Virginia, we'll have to find one.
We had a friend that ran a seafood buffet restaurant. He originally was open on Sundays, but he decided to start closing that day to honor the Sabbath and he said his business actually increased after that.
We ate there all the time before and my friends and I meet there for our men's group, outings, etc. We call it 'sanctified fast food'. If anything the idiot left has polarized the gun-carrying Christian community and well we know how that ends :D - Signed - A gun toting Christian
I remember Chick-fil-A's from years ago in Texas, but I've never been to one. I love their cow ads though. There is one in Manhattan and I will go on Wednesday to try it out. The cows must be getting nervous...
As for Rahm - what bad timing that he took his stand against Chik-fil-A in the same week he welcomed Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam with open arms to help solve his rising murder rate. I think the Rahm-meister thought no one would notice...
And one more comment - Really, when the murder rate has skyrocketed by 40% since Rahm was sworn in, why in the heck is he making this an issue?
And, with unemployment at 8.3% nationally and 10% locally, WHY ARE THEY TRYING TO CLOSE DOWN A BUSINESS THAT HIRES AND EMPLOYS PEOPLE?????? ARE THEY INSANE??? It's not like they were boiling kittens or enslaving people or even discriminating against anyome.
"(oxymoron) to rediscover their root foundational platform."
--Slavery--
I have not been to a whole lot of Chick-Fil-A locations. The ones I have been to, though, have always had good food, reasonable prices, a clean dining space, and unfailingly pleasant service. It is really shameful for activists to be running down a good restaurant such as this. But then, I would expect nothing less from the Left.
I've never eaten there, but I do enjoy their ads.
we've decided that they have an addictive property in their food - especially the breakfast chicken-biscuit-y things YUM!!!! We have one in the mall; the one near Wal-mart (stand alone store) is ALWAYS busy. There are rumors that another one is to be built in a central location - everyone I've talked to is stoked... One of our [church] members brought me Chik-fil-a for lunch yesterday - YAY!
I broke my rule and commented on a friend's fb post about this controversy and was told I was "hateful" for holding the same opinion of gay marriage as the Cathy family (and a majority of Americans). I walked away then.
Apparently there are several Chik-fil-a songs out there, but this one was the first I heard (I have the cd): http://www.songlyrics.com/jonny-diaz/the-chick-fil-a-song-lyrics/
Chik-fil-a is also a regular topic on here: http://www.jonacuff.com/stuffchristianslike/
LawHawk,
Evidently the politicians forgot about what rappers think.
Rapper Big Boi won't let anyone get between him and his chicken melt cut in half.
Also, the gay community forgot to ask Antoine Dodson what he thought about the controversy. His unique way of talking was made into a song about a rapist he scared off. The song is a combination of his interview and music. Another fun fact: Antoine is gay. With over a hundred million hits on YouTube, I think Antoine has some say in the matter.
My ABSOLUTE fav thing to eat at Chik-fil-A is their morning breakfast biscuits. If you haven't had them...RUN AND GET ONE!
not a huge fan of their other stuff, but the biscuits...
~drool~
Chick-fil-A is pretty good fast food but their service is spectacular.
One question I had is with these local governments looking for ways to shut them down, wouldn't that constitute harassment? Especially since this is based on a religious belief and there is no evidence of discrimination, wouldn't it be a infringement on 1st amendment rights? Seems like it would be a great way for a city to be sued and Chick-fil-A may actually have deeper pockets than some of these idiot cities.
LawHawk, by that do you mean you can picture Rahm delivering dead fish to people's doorsteps, or that he looks like a dead fish? Just out of curiosity.
My Facebook friends are still blasting away about this. One guy who kinda leans right but is a sincere Christian defended the CEO and pointed out that liberals were becoming the hate-filled bigots they claimed to despise. Another friend replied that she was glad people were attacking and threatening the guy, because it would teach him to be more "discrete" about what he said. As usual, scratch a liberal and you'll find a totalitarian.
Thank you for that explanation. You are right since they seem to be winning the PR war.
LawHawk,
The first two are articles from Michelle Malkin's Twitchy site. The last one is from YouTube. I clicked on it, but I couldn't really understand the music. I did notice though that over 100 million views were recorded.
Malkin has done a marvelous job with the Twitchy site. It shows quite a bit about what people are twittering about. Especially the false narratives which people are very quick to jump on and stamp out.
All of LawHawk's comments have gone. Has LawHawk become an unperson?
LawHawk,
Only your posts were dumped.
Andrew- are you sure that Lawhawk is okay? Has he indicated if there are any black helicopters flying around. The first sign that THEY are trying to make you disappear is when all of your blog posts begin to disappear.
Not that I know anything about stuff like that. Just makin' conversation, but you didn't hear this from me...
Sadly, I live in a Chick-fil-a desert. There is one in Omaha, but it is tucked neatly away inside a corporate food-court to which the general public has no access. I had it once in an airport in Georgia. I liked it.
My primary link to Chick-fil-a is through thye PBS children's programming my kids watch (still better than Nickelodeon). They sponsor about half of it. I wonder if that will be allowed to continue.
