Question: Welcome to the World of Tomorrow!

I am led to believe that some of you are fans of science fiction. If so, what "world" would you most want to see? Do you want to live the good life in the off-world colonies? How about sharing a cab with Corbin Dallas? Ride the worms on Arrakis? Or is Seti Alpha 5 more your speed?

Seti Alpha 5? LOL! Without a doubt, I would want to see the Tanhauser Gate. Actually, I always thought Bespin was pretty cool. I'd like to see Bespin.

Mega, Bespin was pretty cool. In fact, it was one of my favorite worlds created by the Star Wars people.

Andrew: I can think of several of those worlds I wouldn't mind living in. But one thing I am sure of is that I don't ever want to live in the world of Blade Runner.

Lawhawk, Yeah, the Blade Runner world is not at the top of my list. But then, who knows what the good life is like in the off world colonies?

i have enough trouble comprehending *this* world. i will leave it to the sci-fi guys...

andrew and law: head's up. tomorrow i have linked your "repeal and replace, not just repel" entry. you rock, as usual.

Thanks Patti! :-)

And we'll let you pass on this question. . . this once. :-(

Just kidding. You actually bring up a good point. There is so much cool stuff on this planet that we don't really need new science-fictiony worlds. Still. . . it's fun to dream.

I want to meet the green women of whatever planet it was in Star Trek!

The Firefly Universe. It seems the most free.

I'm still waiting to see those domed cities and 250 mph flying cars on the covers of my dad's Mechanics Illustrated and Popular Mechanics that were supposed to be here by the 1960s or 1970s at the latest.

DocWhoa, That seems to be the one thing everyone remembers from Star Trek. Hmmm. I wonder what that says about us?

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, That would be an interesting world to see -- kind of the old West with a lot of technology. Could be pretty interesting!

USArtguy, I'm waiting for that too. In fact, I often get a chuckle at how wrong the old science fiction used to be. The thing that I always find so funny is that they seemed to think that bigger is always better, when we've turned that around to smaller is better. Hence, the room size computers of old no longer impress us.

The one guy who seemed to get this right was Asimov with his "Foundation" series.
