Dems: “Obama Sucks and It’s Bush’s Fault”

California Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D), a Blue Dog Democrat known primarily for replacing murder suspect Gary Condit (D) in the House, has come out with an interesting article in which he blasts Obama as arrogant and alienating. He also blames everything on Bush. Dennis is retiring in 2012, so it’s perhaps not surprising he would finally work up a little courage to speak his mind about Obama. And what a little mind it is:

Dennis says Team Obama suffers from “idea disease.”

. . . because thinking is not considered a good thing in Democratic circles.
More specifically, Dennis thinks Obama “rolled out a new program for the country” almost every day, but then failed to prioritize or support these ideas. Thus, Obama could never develop a clear message because he kept stepping on his message each day.
. . . this is hard to believe since Obama really only rolled out five issues: Stimulus, ObamaCare, Cap’n Trade, Financial Reform, and gays in the military. Let’s see, divide 365 days by five programs. . . carry the one. . . yeah, not even close to “a new program almost every single day.”
Nevertheless, Dennis says this “tainted the president’s personal appeal.”
. . . right, because having ideas makes you unpopular.
It also made the Democrats feel like they were “drinking out of a firehose.”
. . . if five issues constitutes a firehose-like “blast” of water, then it’s no surprise that liberal cities like Chicago and San Francisco burned to the ground because their definition of “firehose” and mine are apparently very different.
This in turn made it easy for Republicans to block the agenda. Which they “did with relish!”
. . . it always comes back to the evil Republicans, doesn’t it? Oddly, the Republicans I remember were so far away from a majority in the House they couldn’t even introduce bills. And the Senate had a Democratic Supermajority that could do anything it wanted. Can Dennis really claim those powerless Republicans stopped the Democrats? Clearly, Dennis is at high-risk of being mugged by toddlers.
Oh, and the real problem for the Democrats was trying to fix the failures of the Bush administration.
. . . Dennis forgets the Democrats already controlled the House and Senate by 2006, so these were Democratic messes. Maybe he took too many hits off the firehose to remember?
Now we start making progress. Early in Obama’s presidency “Professor Obama” proved to be somewhat arrogant. “Obama projected an ‘I’m right, you’re wrong’ demeanor that alienated many potential allies.” How so? “He would admonish staff, members of the Congress and the public, in speeches and in private about what they could learn from him.”
. . . yep, that’s narcissism for ya. I have no doubt Dennis is right that Obama is an assh*le, but how should that alienate allies? Would allies really give up their goals just because Obama is an ass to them? And if the O-ssiah was such an ass, why the continued hero worship until 2010? This sounds like after-the-fact whining to me. There must be more to this?
“The president concentrated power within the White House, leaving Cabinet members with no other option but to dutifully carry out policies with which they had limited input in crafting and might very well disagree.”
. . . that’s it! Obama’s a dictator. I almost forgot. And Dennis doesn’t like having a dictator in the White House. Strange though, Democrats usually love dictators. . . FDR, LBJ, Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Saddam Hussein. But no love for the O? Must be racism because he is the only black guy on that list.
Dennis continues, “these areas have also been responsible for much of the president’s harshest critiques.”
. . . really? Who could have guessed that ideas forced on the public by a small cabal of arrogant narcissists would be the things the public likes the least? Perhaps the Democrats should rethink their platform, because that seems to be their governing philosophy.
“One former administration official told me directly that the people in the White House ‘NEVER TALK TO REAL PEOPLE.’”
. . . obnoxious use of all caps. Anyhoo, three points. First, that’s how narcissist roll, Dennis: they don’t care what other people think. Secondly, if they weren’t talking to real people, were they talking to imitations? Is this something I should be worried about? Third, of course they weren’t talking to normal people because normal people tend to object to abject stupidity. If you want to do something truly stupid no matter how many people will object, then you purposely keep normal people out of the loop until after you’ve intercoursed the canine.
One Obama staffer “confided” in Dennis that Obama doesn’t mind giving speeches, but he just doesn’t like people: he “avoided personal contact with members of Congress and folks outside the Beltway” and he “avoids individual contact.”
. . . hey, who doesn’t? This is not news, Dennis. Anyone who wasn’t drinking Obama’s urine (yeah, that’s where the Kool-Aid came from) knew this guy was an unlikable bastard who hated people. And besides, he thinks he’s royalty, and royalty don’t mingle with us peasants. . . we stink on ice. Did you really not see this, Dennis?!
A TOP housing official (one of those guys who knows where the Ark of the Covenant is stored) told Dennis that despite the fact Obama “was responsible for crafting policies to stem the foreclosure crisis, he had personally never met with a homeowner who had been foreclosed on.”
. . . hmm. I’m of two minds on this one. First, this is pathetic logic. How can meeting a homeowner help? Policies require input on a statistically significant scale. Meeting one homeowner or two or even a 100 just isn’t relevant. This complaint is like saying “Obama tried to explain football without ever having met a football player.” That’s nonsense. Secondly, I don’t believe for a minute that Obama came up with any policy. The guy can barely read and there’s no way he could come up with a coherent polic. . . ah. Never mind, I stand corrected.
Finally, Obama is a horrible campaigner. He went to some must-win state and only told the local Senator about it the day before, causing this outburst: “He was totally off-message for what my people wanted to hear. Doesn’t the White House get it? I don’t need him, he needs ME!”
. . . well, no, they don’t get it. Obama thinks he’s king of the world and you idiots who can’t handle five bills a year are weighing him down. Also, I hate to break this to you, but telling people what they want to hear is what got you into this problem in the first place. Just sayin’.
Dennis thinks Obama still has time to improve his performance before November. But what are the odds Obama even can improve his performance? Pretty low. Yesterday David Axelrod spoke about Newt’s monkey-butt. Debbie Whatshername-Schultz denied reality. Obama fundraiser Jon Corzine perjured himself before Congress. And Obama spent the weekend whining that he “sure done wished he knew how bad the economy was before he took over.” Yeah, that’ll help.

A fun read, Andrew. Maybe he does have time, but I, for one, was very encouraged by the polling news yesterday (I know, I know, hard to find in the m.s.m.) Newt Romney beats Obama in battleground states, Americans prefer the G.O.P. on economy, healthcare, and foreign policy. Now that has to pick us all up a little.

BTW, there is some truth in my mind that Barrack Obama, the script reading actor, did overplay himself. At some point, people even got a little tired of Tiger Woods. He was on every day, and got this undeserved notion that he could sell anything to anybody ("let Barrack be Barrack.") What this tells me is people are not buying the lies and bullshit falling out of his mouth nearly as much as the main streams would want us to believe.

Well Dennis

I would first give the POTUS a brief Geography lesson. you can start with how many states there are in the Union.

When you are Big Brother and expect to control what people think by controlling the press you don't worry about other people's feelings or the facts.

You simply decide what the truth is and then enforce belief in it. Now that the POTUS has shown he is not up to the task of molding us all to his will.... well....

Today's Big Brother becomes tomorrows Emanuel Goldstein

and two + two = five one again

Andrew,

True believers deny reality. These people are scary. Hopefully, the majority of American Voters see through this.

This "person" should not be outside with out a keeper. To believe this, I have to press my suspend disbelief button that I use for movies and books. An egregious erroneous explanation which makes me suspect the person is on drugs or thinks I am stupid. Possibly both.

Yes, it is the old 'My dog ate my homework' defense. Fails every time. Teachers don't buy it, why should we?

Andrew, clearly Cardoza is an idiot, as are most House Democrats; I will give him credit, however, for being willing to openly criticize Obama. True, he might take a shot at Republicans, but hey--baby steps.

What is truly pathetic is that Dennis, like so many other liberals, are only just awakening to what attentive conservatives were warning about Obama from his campaign days. Even so, they still refuse to believe that those warnings have ever held any merit, then or now.

Sadly, liberals think that all politics are just a big guessing game. They are only woeful that they guessed wrong about Barry. But they haven't learned a thing. The next guy could come along spouting exactly the same things as Barry, and they would buy it all over again. These are people who could lose the second round in a game of Schrodinger's cat.

Jed, He doesn't have time. Nothing will happen in DC in his final year which will give him a chance to make amends -- election years are dead except for some base-exciting symbolic votes.

Moreover, I can't see Obama doing the things he needs to do to reconnect with the middle class. If he tries anything it will be to excite his base and that will just move him further away from the independents.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, I had that problem with Clinton. Whether I liked him or not (NOT), he was on television so often that I got sick of him. Literally, every news hour turned into the "What did Bill Clinton do to today?" show and I wanted no part of it.

I personally don't think Obama has been on television very much and that's because he's so aloof. I think the bigger problem is that he doesn't come across well because he comes across as angry and unlikable. The only times you see him he's scowling and accusing somebody else of not doing their job before he runs off to the golf course.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, If I may run with your point... part of Obama's problem is that he's never been forced to deal with reality. He's been passed through schools under affirmative action, he's been given money for nothing in Illinois, the Democrats never asked him to state clearly what he believes or give his qualification other than skin color, and the MSM will give him a pass on everything because he's a Democrat.

What that adds up to is a man who has never actually had to get good at what he does. So it's no surprise that once he is confronted with having to deal with reality (e.g. the economy, the opinions of actual voters) rather than the falsified reality of Democratic circles, that he would fall on his face.

Teach a man to fish he can support himself, keep giving a man fish and telling him he's a great fisherman and he's going to starve the moment you can't help him anymore.

Tennessee Jed said...

Rav - in a way. Both Romney and Gingrich beat Obama in the battleground states in the Gallup poll, hence I decided to have fun with Michelle's term :) Don't get me wrong, it has to play out for real on election day before I get too excited. Still, it is encouraging.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, What's funny is that he's being so whiny and upset about Obama and yet he clearly still doesn't have a clue why it's all gone wrong. Dennis is a walking set of contradictions and confusion masked by an inability to see reality as it truly is.

And if you'll recall, I said a long time ago that as with other Democratic heroes, the pattern is "worship, confusion at failure, blazing-sun hatred at 'betrayal' by messiah." We've reached that last stage and that's what you're seeing here. This is the declaration of betrayal. This is "we thought we elected a great and noble man but he lied to us, he's really a stupid tyrant." This will get increasingly worse as the weeks pass.

AndrewPrice said...

Tennessee Jed said...

Andrew - I agree. He is campaigning (and golfing) not stop. The reason I am so encouraged by the poll is that it appears not only is he (as you suggest) behaving petulantly by blaming others, people realize he has not led during the crisis. I really am feeling more encouraged about this.

Joel Farnham said...

When you pick your handle Andrew, come back here and let us know. Oh, and pick it carefully. You CAN'T change it.

I might get banned from HotAir.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I actually don't give him much credit. For one thing, he's retiring so he has nothing to lose.

For another, the herd is turning on Obama and he's just following the herd. In particular, I think the Dems have decided they need to divorce themselves from Obama before the election so they can avoid getting wiped out by his anti-coattails in places like Virginia and Nebraska.

Third, this is all part of the pattern Democrats do. They fall in love with the man they choose to be their leader (not the ideas). And when that man fails, they first wonder if the man didn't try hard enough or wasn't actually smart enough. And once the doubt settles in that he will ever deliver paradise, their love turns to hate and they decide he lied to them and betrayed them... because it can't be his ideas that were to blame.

This is a declaration of that final stage -- Obama betrayed the Democrats by not being what he promised, i.e. the deliverer of utopia.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Excellent observations.

First, even though this is exactly the kind of stuff conservatives were warning about all along (most at least, some actually thought Obama was an evil genius), they simply refuse to hear that the conservatives where right all along. That would require them to grasp that maybe something is wrong with their thinking and they just don't want to accept that.

Secondly, they have learned nothing. I've said this many times before, but the Democrats have a defense mechanism built into their views where they put all the blame on the man rather than the ideas. Thus, a million people could try to implement socialism, all will fail, and they will still claim (credibly in their own minds) that socialism has never failed because it's never been tried because all million people either didn't know how to do it, weren't willing to do it, or lied about their true goals and betrayed the cause.

I've seen this kind of thinking over and over in leftist circles. The failure is always the result of forces other than the theory itself.

Joel Farnham said...

Andrew: Great discussion of a disgruntled former disciple. He was redistricted, but if Obama had been less arrogant in his treatment of the California Central Valley, Cardoza might still have had a chance to retain his seat. I wrote about his initial resignation and his early Obamaphobic remarks at So Long, Been Good To Know Ya. Cardoza was one of the last of the Blue Dog/Democratic Leadership Council Democrats.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, I'm glad you're encouraged. I actually haven't doubted for a long time now that Obama is done. I suspect the Democrats are starting to see that too, which is why they are trying to get some separation from him without being obvious about it.

I really think things like the consistently low poll numbers, the lack of a bounce, the high number of angry leftists willing to rant about him, and the silence of everyone else about Obama indicate that the public has made up its mind and has simply tuned him out. "We goof in 2008, we don't care what you say now."

The only thing that could change that would be something truly insane from the Republicans and I don't think we'll get that.

AndrewPrice said...

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I'll have to have my keyboard checked! I think you're right! LOL!

In any event, I really do see signs that the Democrats see 2012 as hopeless -- the resignations, the attempt to get the story out in the media that Obama isn't really one of them, and the sudden discovery of a backbone when it comes to standing up to his dumbest ideas. (though I use the term "ideas" loosely as he has none)

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, Democrats never give up their seats until they are forced out and this is a perfect example. He only got his job when Gary Condit went down and now he's only leaving because he got redistricted... just like Barney Frank.

I have to admit, it's kinda fun having the eyes of the nation on my state. I just hope we don't let them down on ousting Benedict Nelson. You're absolutely right, Andrewarama, about Obama's anti-coattails. Even though we don't have a clear GOP nominee in NE yet, the anti-Nelson ads are out, tying ObamaCare around Nelson's neck like a millstone.

It may be a bit discouraging to see that Nelson is still polling in the 40s, but I think that's the most that he will ever get going forward. Plus, the latest tactic by the Nelson camp is downright hilarious. His newest radio spot admits that Nelson contributed to outrageous spending in Washington, but that he still voted "the right way" by not putting the burden on the poor and seniors.

It's got to be the purest identity pander I've ever seen.

Ed said...

Off topic, did anyone see Chelsea Clinton had her debut as a "journalist" talking about poor people in her "home state" of Arkansas. I guess they moved to the New York City?

The MSM was less than impressed and they are panning her performance.

Ed said...

Dennis strikes me as one of those fake "Blue Dogs" who isn't really conservative in any way and tries to prove he's conservative by occasionally attacking other Democrats when it's safe to do so.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I honestly have no idea how to call Nebraska at this point. In places like Virginia the issue is about left versus right. In West Virginia it's entirely about protecting the benefits the state gets from Uncle Sam. I really don't have a sense of how Nebraska will come down on this? Will their anger of Obama's policies (fully supported by Nelson) take him down or will they forgive him when he tells enough lies about "I really opposed the things I voted for" and then swears to bring more farm subsidies? I just don't know.

Keep us apprised though as the race moves forward!

In terms of Nebraska being important, I think it's vital that we capture as many of the states that should be conservative as possible because places like California will never got the other way. If we are to control the Senate then we need the Nebraskas and the Wisconsins and the Colorados.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I've honestly never followed Cardoza's career, but it's become clear to me the whole "blue dog" thing is a myth. They are liberals in a party of socialists, that's it. The closest they come to "conservative" is Clinton was just unprincipled and happened to have a conservative Congress. The conservative Democrat is a myth like the unicorn.

AndrewPrice said...

I saw a quick article on Chelsea the other day. And you're right, they panned her. Interestingly, they were concerned she didn't have as big of a personality as her parents. Tell me they aren't waiting for her to grow into them so they can support her.

I'll tell you what, by the way, not to be rude about it, but she has the face of a Muppet.

AndrewPrice said...

On Chelsea, I think that's right. I think she's just padding a resume that no one will remember -- "community organizer, charity workers, journalist, business leader" -- all fluff but no one will care because she can point to it.

Then she'll run for something like the House and then Governor and finally President. That's my guess.

And the left will love it because she's Democratic royalty.

I will say, it is hard to get a pulse on NE even here. It's kept me too involved to pay attention to anything out-of-state that isn't national. I'm not even sure what's going on in Iowa, and I usually am aware of that just by accident.

AndrewPrice said...

It is a poser. I think the problem is that nothing is settled because Nebraska is capable of swinging either way, which many other states just aren't.

For her to think people don't remember this is stunning frankly. And add in the fact you can look this stuff up with a single google search and it's shocking she thinks she can get away with this kind of lie!

Who could possibly believe this?

On your Democratic friends, I'm not surprised. They saw what they wanted to see and they will see it again as soon as the next Obama comes along.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, Well said. While it is great to see so much anguish on the left of the folly of their mistake, it has done a lot of harm to the country and its people.

Also, while it is great they finally see that this was a mistake, it is discouraging that they don't grasp why it was a mistake. And in the end, I suspect they are ready to repeat this mistake given the first chance.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I think so. I've seen her work rope-lines and it was pretty obvious they had groomed her for politics. And her career looks exactly like a politician in waiting -- lots of meaningless stuff that sounds governmenty.

So I think you're right, this is all about getting her a little national exposure and getting her comfortable before the camera before they move her into politics.

In fact, I found it interesting that so many of the Clinton loyalists (like Kurtz) did the reviews and they all kept suggesting how they couldn't wait for her to become Hillary II.

AndrewPrice said...

But liberals are doomed to face events without knowing what caused them and then forget the outcome once the cause is known.

Andrew

Have you read "A conflict of Visions" by Thomasd Sowell. In this book he details a difference in philosophies based on the outlook of whether MAn can control his Environment or whether Man has little Control over his environment.

He guages ideology based on where it falls in this scale. He comes to the conclusion that liberal philosophies tend to beleive that Man has a great deal of control over his environment while conservative philosophies tend to beleive that man has less control over his environment.

Given this if something is wrong then the Liberals tend to beleive that womeone is responsible for either through incompetence or more likely being evil. They tend to support drastic changes to correct issues since all things are the responsibility of man.

Conservatives on the other hand tend to cling to traditions because tradition is something that hass lasted through the years and thus is a culmination of wisdom in how to deal with mother nature.

It is an interesting book and an interesting concept. I read it because I saw Thomas Sowell at a dinner and he was asked which book was his favorite and he told the audience this one was.

Hey, there's a debate tomorrow night!! Ug.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, I haven't read that book but it sounds fascinating. Liberals do seem to think man has the ultimate power to change anything, including himself. Conservatives don't believe that. I'm not saying we don't believe we can't build a damn or something like that, but we know that in the overall scheme of things, we just don't have much power to control the world.

I might have to look into that, Indi. It sounds right up my alley.

My first reaction is that liberalism is once again shown to be a corruption of the intended order. God's first instruction to man was to "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it."

The liberal corruption is that man can simply imagine a thing and make it happen. (I think magic is the word for that.) But controlling the earth is like controlling a car. You can make it do what a car can do, but nothing more, and you must learn to drive it.

What?! Again?

AndrewPrice said...

That was my thought too. This primary thing better end soon is all I'm saying!

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I thought God said something about "don't try to multiply fruits, apples and oranges don't mix?"

Thanks darski!

BevfromNYC said...

By all that is Holy and good, please make them not debate!!! Andrew I thought we discussed this and you were supposed to tell them to stop! What happened?

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I sent a strongly worded letter, but they clearly ignored it.

tryanmax said...

Actually, because your letter was clearly partisan, they elected to disregard it.

tryanmax said...

Oh, yak! Chelsea Clinton is doing intermission interviews and commentary for The Nutcracker ballet on PBS.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Blech. But get used to it, they're going to start shoving her into our faces until she becomes a celebrity.

On the letter, I did sign it in crayon to reduce the partisan tone.

tryanmax said...

OMG, It's like watching a journalism student do practice interviews. I should know, I took a little journalism.

tryanmax said...

WTF, now it's a reverse interview! Now the ballet master is asking her about her experience doing whatever rinky-dink Nutcracker she did. (This is the NYC Ballet doing Balanchine's, BTW.)

AndrewPrice said...

The clips I saw of her segment on NBC were pretty amateurish... painfully in fact.

tryanmax said...

How sad is it when you can't make an interview with children interesting? Seriously, all you have to do is ask them "what's the most fun?" and let them take it away.

Also, the camera is on Chelsea far too much. That's not how interviews are normally shot. You know it's bad when it calls attention to itself.

I didn't see her debut on NBC (Rock Center sounds like your all classic rock station, btw) but judging by this, I missed nothing.

tryanmax said...

Oh, thank goodness! Intermission is over.

AndrewPrice said...

She had a very dull persona, her topic was dull and too much of it was about her. The camera was always on her and they showed things like the black woman she was interviewing welcoming her (Chelsea) to the house and hugging her (Chelsea) and asking her (Chelsea) how she(Chelsea) is doing -- all things we don't care about. It felt egotistical and not very professional.

Also, she used the most incredibly generic inflections rather than speaking to the audience.

tryanmax said...

Ah! I thought the inflection thing tonight was because she was condescending children. That makes her performance tonight seem even worse. In any case, thanks for listening to me vent.

AndrewPrice said...

No problem. And not, it's not just tonight. She's pretty bad. But she is royalty so she really doesn't have to earn any of these jobs.

rlaWTX said...

maybe you used the wrong crayon color! always green!!

maybe the early primaries are good after all - the insanity will stop and we can be partisan again!!!

AndrewPrice said...

Hmm. Should'a used green! I used brown. :(

I will be a good deal happier when the primaries are over and we don't have these debates smacking up every week!

T-Rav's Sockpuppets said...

You said it, Andrew. We're getting just plain fatigued at this point. We'd have crapped out entirely last time if Diane Sawyer's booze-induced antics hadn't inspired us.

AndrewPrice said...

Don't worry sockpuppets, I'm sure the candidates will give you much to work with this time.

// quietly weeps

tryanmax said...

Brown, huh? They probably thought it was poo because they are used to that sort of thing.

I am so buying some Cap'n Crunch for tomorrow.

AndrewPrice said...

That should become official debate food!
