Fruits, Newts and Nuts

Let’s keep is simple today. Let’s do a bit of a news roundup mixed with some discussion questions. Feel free to add your own thoughts on anything else that comes to mind.

You Dirty Fruits: Check out the article Patti found (HERE) dealing with Islam’s war against the perverted fruits and vegetables that will lead women astray. Not coincidentally, Saudi Arabia just executed a woman for “sorcery.” The religion of peace, huh? Sounds like an Erectile-Dysfunction-Idiocracy.

Our Impotent President, Part 507: Speaking of impotence, the military lost a drone the other day over Iran. Obama failed to allow the military to destroy the drone. This news has gone virtually unreported, but here’s why it’s important. In the 1990s, when Clinton decided to bomb Serbia, a stealth fighter crashed. The US failed to recover most of that plane. It is now believed that Chinese agents acquired the parts and used them to engineer their own stealth fighter, which they recently showed to the world. Letting Iran have this drone was stupid. It gives Iran the capability to make very long range, cheap drones. If a fleet of these things appears over Israel in a couple years, think back on Obama’s decision.

Tebowmania: Is Tim Tebow for real? How far will Denver go? Is this the greatest story or what? Where does all the hate come from against this kid? And do you think God really is helping Tebow... maybe just a little?

International What?: With Climategate 2.0 heaping fresh disgrace upon climate change enthusiasts, the UN has gone on the offensive and proposed an International Climate Court of Justice to make Western governments pay for their climate crimes. This would impose a mandate to “respect the rights of Mother Earth” and to pay a “climate debt.” If you ever had doubts about the motivates of these enviro-fascists, this should settle it.

Liar of the Week: Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the vile DNC Chair proved yesterday that she’s delusional as well. In an interview on Fox, Debbie Dumbass actually claimed that it is a myth that unemployment went up under Obama. She repeated this several times, finishing thusly:

“Unemployment is nearing right around where it was when President Obama took office and it's dropping. You just said it's been increasing and that's not true.”
For the record, unemployment was 6% when Obama took office, it’s 9% now and that’s after millions of people stopped looking for work and thus stopped counting against the number. So is Debbie Dumbass that stupid or is she just a pathological liar?

Newt Watch: I have resigned myself to Newt being our nominee. Hail Nero! But some conservatives and moderates (and whackos) are trying to warn us:
Glenn Beck: Beck said yesterday he would support Ron Paul in a third party bid before he would vote for Newt.

Rep. Pete King (NY): King credits Newt with winning back the House for Republicans in the 1990s. What does he think about Newt as our nominee? “He’d be a terrible nominee.” Why? Because Newt’s destructive and he’s in it for himself: “It’s not like, with Newt, you end up dying for a noble cause. You end up dying for Newt Gingrich, because he puts himself in the center of everything.”

New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu: Sununu gave the most direct warning:
“He has a personal priority over all else. The country comes maybe second or third. Philosophy comes maybe fifth. This is a man who is unable to prioritize needs in a constructive way. And frankly, his colleagues saw that when he was leader. . . This man is not stable.”
Former Gingrich collaborator Marvin Olasky: “Wisdom is knowing the difference between good and bad ideas. Newt is very intelligent; he has lots of ideas. But I’m not sure he always distinguishes between good and bad.”

NYT RINO David Brooks: “Gingrich loves government more than I do.”

National Review’s Ramesh Ponnuru: “The people who know Gingrich best — the ones who worked for him, or worked with him, or watched him closely as journalists in the 1990s — have almost all concluded that he is a bad fit for the presidency. That judgment is shared by conservative and moderate congressmen, by people who support Romney and people who want an alternative to [Romney]. The common denominator is alarm at what Gingrich would do to the Republican party as nominee and to the country as president.”
Write Ins/Drop Out: Finally, a question. Several readers (looking at T-Rav and Indi) have said they will write in the name of a suitable candidate when they get to vote. The Elves seem to be contemplating moving to Singapore. I’m buying a new pitchfork. Anyway, given the other available choices in this primary, it’s hard to say a write in would be a wasted vote. But do you think writing in someone’s name helps?

Did you catch the Gingrich/Huntsman debate? I think it was yesterday but I don't know if it was streamed or actually televised.

I plan on affixing this bumper sticker to my car come 2012. :-)

Andrew,

Newt's Judgement is suspect.

"FDR ... the greatest president of the 20th century?" -- Newt Gingrich

T-Rav said...

The answer to your question on Debbie Wassermann-Schultz--is she "that stupid or is she just a pathological liar?"--is yes.

Do write-ins actually help? Meh. Probably not in most cases and especially not now, since the people I've been wanting to run have made it clear they're not running. It's really just my personal antagonism toward the declared candidates. I suppose if there were a lot of write-in votes, that might be different, but it'll probably amount to nothing more than a protest vote.

Joel Farnham said...

ScottDS,

I agree. Bruce Campbell for President!

Tennessee Jed said...

Drone decision - just one more pebble on the pile as to why Obama is our worst potus in the history of the republic.

Tebow - great player, great kid. Why the hate? Remember when a pro-life advocacy group tried to use him mom and him in ad ad and buy time at the Superbowl? It was removed by network as "controversial." Pro-life Christian? baum, dere 'tis homme.

Climategate. Vice-President Bolton wouldn't put up with this crap from the united america hating nations.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz - For the political right, she is the gift that keeps on giving. Even better than Biden. Oh I love those hyphenated last names. Debbie Wasserman-Schiltz, stupid be thy name.

I have no respect for Beck. I think I'd actually prefer Mitt. To a degree they all do the Potomic two-step (flopadopolis) but Newt seems capable of providing an election killing revelation . . . . just when it is too late to do anything about it. Put differently, I don't trust Newt. King is right. Romney is squishy, but I think he is clean.

Ponnaru made a nice defense of Romney. If it comes down to the two, Mitt is my guy.

Tennessee Jed said...

left out a little piece here. Beck and Paul are both crazy. Third party = 2nd term, Obamacare and the end of the republic.

Mitt vs. Newt: Mitt better than Newt.

Individualist said...

Yes I am considering a protest vote.....

Will it help.... I guess to a certain extent that I am not voting against them it helps Mitt or Newt.

Will it help my sanity - Yes but only until the elected nominee makes their first speach, then all bets are off.

Candidates I would like to run:

Cain, Ryan, Rubio, West

Candidates whose ideology I like but I wish were a better candidate.

Cain (I wish the Bimbo problems were not there)

Bachman (She has allowed Diarhea of the mouth to do her in. she tried to be clever 6-6-6 but came off childish - that said she campaigned well for the Tea Party and our principles - I am left wondering what happened)

Paul (I wish he were not completely nuts about Iran and IslamoFascism - if he would just acknowledge the threat and advocate caution I could live with him)

Beaker - Andrew the MSM is blatantly ignoring this candidate. In the last debate they did not even show him on camera let alone ask him a question. I think it was because Stephanopolis (sp) was jealous of his masculine voice and commanding macho presence (compared to Stephy anyways).

AndrewPrice said...

Scott, That's a bumper sticker I can get behind!

As for catching the Gingrich/Huntman debate? Uh.... no. "Somehow" I misses that one.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I've read a LOT of articles lately from people who know Newt and want no part of him.

This is just one of a million more pieces of evidence. FDR? Really?!

Another of his "great" ideas is to use millions of mirrors to adjust our temperature. Ug. Ug. Ug.

Thanks for the link!

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I think you're right about the write ins. I think the problem is that unless millions of people do it, then no one even knows you did it. And the only way to get millions of people to do it, is if there is an active campaign. But when you have that, then the story becomes the failure of enough people to agree. It's a catch 22.

On Debbie, yeah, I think it's both without a doubt.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, I suspect Campell would be a fairly popular choice, ironically.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, The drone thing is the sort of mistake like Clinton and Bin Laden that we end up paying for in 5-10 years and then everyone tries to blame the current president when the real blame belongs to Obama.

On Tebow, I've actually become a fan. I wasn't before, but it's just impossible not to like this kid. It's not just the winning or the games, which are really fun to watch, but it's been the poise this kid has even as everyone is just blasting him left and right for everything about him.

Let's hope whoever wins picks Bolton!

Debbie is truly a turd and you're right, she's better than Biden. She's got all the stupidity of Biden mixed with the depth of vile possessed by Nancy Pelosi. I hope Republicans help push up her profile because she could be very useful in an election!

Joel Farnham said...

Andrew,

This year's Republican Convention will be a brokered one. The way I see it, Newt, Romney and Perry split the vote to the point that no one will get the required 50% +. Remember after the first vote, no one member has to vote for the same guy again. They are free to vote for who ever strikes their fancy.

If enough conventioneers are Tea Party types, then there will be a conservative as President. It might be even the DREADED Palin! ;-) hehehehe

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, I agree, I don't like Beck either. And I don't think Paul will run third party. He's made that clear many times already.

On Mitt v. Newt, I lean toward Mitt for the same reason you do, PLUS I fear Newt in office. Mitt won't do anything rash. Also, he will put his finger in the wind, and right now the wind is blowing strongly from the right. Newt is an irrational egomaniac and will do whatever strikes his fancy. We are likely to end up with socialized food or a plan to move us all to an orbiting space station or build bronze statues of Newt in every town square. I simply don't trust him not to pull a Nero on us.

So between Zero and Nero, I would choose Zero.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, I'm definitely not faulting your idea. I think it might be an excellent sanity saving idea. :)

I like your list of people who should run. I could support any of them without reservation. Sadly, I just can't do the same with the crew that are left.

If Paul weren't completely blind about the world around us, yeah, I would jump on his bandwagon easily. Sadly, he scares the heck out of my with his foreign policy stuff and I just don't know how much of that he might actually be able to achieve.

I think the rest have been exposed as just the same old politicians wrapped in various pretend wrappers. I think Bachmann failed not only because of the gaffes, but because she really has no plan except "stop gays." Beaker is similar, but at least he has a "plan" -- cut taxes on manufacturing. That's the world's weakest plan and it's socialist in nature (as he's picking winners and losers) but it is more than Bachmann has offered.

I think the reason they are both failing is precisely that -- they claim to speak for Tea Party types, but they've never advocated anything the Tea Party could latch onto. A professed general hate of government combining with plans to move the government into your bedroom and then an economic plan that say "yeah, whatever" is just not enough.

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, You may have missed it yesterday, but I actually said I prefer to Palin to Newt.... and it's true.

I doubt there will be a brokered convention, but you never know? That is honestly our best chance right now.

Sadly, I think Newt has this all but sown up.

Folks, I need to run -- doctor's appointment. I will be back in a couple hours. Please feel free to share your thoughts, I will respond my upon return.

I'm going to studiously ignore the current political stuff. Primary? What primary? I'm too busy eating bananas to worry about primaries. (Aw, shoot, I probably just caused all kinds of impure thoughts in you menfolk. You can stone me later.)

Re the climate stuff -- I also heard the UN is thinking about adding a "foreign currency transaction" tax. It would be a tax charged every time a person or company or whatever exchanges its currency. And it would all go toward climatecrap funding. ARGH.

Newt is a temporary phenomenon. He has stirred up the debates, and only he and Paul have really shown some of the nastiness we're going to need to see from the Republican candidate going up against the Obama mud machine. Republicans, conservatives and independents have been thirsting for a fighter, and Newt has given that to them. But it's more a reaction to the cold oatmealishness of most of the other candidates than a commitment to Newt. I think when the rubber meets the road during the primaries, we'll find that his support is a mile wide and an inch deep. I see him as the Giuliani or Thompson of 2012.

I still yearn for a true conservative dark horse (run, Bobby, run), but it's very unlikely. Even after his first major boo-boo (the $10,000 bet), I think Romney is still the most likely ultimate victor. We could do better, but we could do a lot worse too.

Singapore is the way to go, folks! We were thinking of heading north again, but the butter shortage in Norway ($500 / lb?!?!) is making us rethink that. With all the baking to be done? Can't risk not having butter.

Individualist said...

Well Guys I have been doing some Candidate Research and here is what I have found out about Beaker's positions.

Fiscal issues:
Taxation: Beaker says he doesn't like it. He is very coy on this issue and does not say much else.

Economic growth: Beaker is for it. When asked what the government should do about it his answer was simply this "Has not the Government done enough"

Government Spending: "Only if they have to" and even then the government should spend what it has and not go into debt.

Social issues:

Alternative Marriage arrangements: Sadly with all the chickens , livestock, big furry monsters and androgynous muppets out there this issue is too complicated in the Muppet world for a soundbite and since Beaker can only talk in soundbites he cannot discuss this issue at all.

Abortion: Oddly enough although Beaker is Pro Choice he is against Stem Cell research. He states it brings up bad childhood memories.

anyrate this may not be correct because unfortunately I got this information from Articles on Yahoo!

I think I am going to break out in a rash for typing this, but I might actually vote Romney in the primary. After the Cain mutiny and before the Newt explosion (EW!), when Romney was the cakewalk nominee, I was going to vote for Perry for the one and only reason that maybe he ought to at least win TX.
I am a very sad cat.

I'm just not happy about any of this. This election should be so easy for us and we should be celebrating.

Andrew, What do you think about Kagan recusing herself?

Ed said...

rlaWTX, I feel exactly as you do. I will vote for Romney and feel very sick about it.

AndrewPrice said...

I'm back folks -- just stepped through the door. Sorry that took so long, but let me say, I love the fact that everyone kept saying "Merry Christmas." :)

AndrewPrice said...

Crispy, Honestly, I feel like ignoring the primary too at this point and just sharpening my pitchfork.

Isn't that fruits/veggies thing incredible?

I've heard that too on the climate stuff. They are looking for ways to get money that cross borders because it's harder to get rid of those once multiple countries start going along with it.

Unknown said...

ScyFyTerry: I'm also covering the Kagan recusal in my afternoon article today. You might enjoy the speculation.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, What's wrong with Norway?

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, I HOPE you're right. I honestly think Newt would be a disaster for us. I can really can see him deciding to try to take over and remake huge chunks of the economy.

Like you, I wish a dark horse would enter the race. Heck, at this point, I would take a dark pony. But I also think that isn't going to happen. I fear we're stuck with this current field and that's depressing.

AndrewPrice said...

BRE, Ok, I should have read your comment before I answered tryanmax.... always read in order. :(

How the heck can butter become so expensive in Norway?

On Singapore, I hear it's nice (unless you like graffiti), but I would rather join a revolution here than move.

AndrewPrice said...

Patti, You're welcome on the link. I'll tell you what, this story would make me wonder what exactly is going on in grocery stores in Saudi Arabia?

Do you think they allow kids into such nasty establishments?

this is truly sad

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, I took a look at Beaker here (Santorum).

Essentially, he has no economic views except cutting taxes on manufacturers and some vague idea that marriage will spark the economy.

He wants to stop abortion and hates gays.

That's him in a nutshell. There isn't any more.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, A sad cat... LOL!

Sorry to laugh at your pain, but that was funny.

I feel your pain, by the way. I am leaning toward Romney now too and I am really not happy about it.

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, Conservatives seem to be masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. This should have been a cakewalk for a genuine conservative candidate. Instead, we're trying to decide which of these pathetic choices will hurt us the least. Ug.

AndrewPrice said...

Patti, I agree. They are waiting for the first loss to scream "I told you so" and then they'll just dump all the hate they've had to swallow right back onto him.

It's gotten really ugly at a lot of sports sites. There are some very sick people out there.

Individualist said...

Ah!

Thanks Andrew

That's what I get for getting my research from Yahoo then isn't it.

AndrewPrice said...

ScyFyTerry, I haven't thought about it really. The court is split 5-4 on political issues and there's no difference between 5-3 and 5-4, so I think it ultimately doesn't matter.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, That just about explains my position. I'm leaning toward Romney and I feel sick about it. Well said!

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, Ah, I didn't see what you were covering today. I shall hold off on speculating.

I look forward to your article.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, You're welcome! I'm glad we could be of service.

Remember, Commentarama is always your best choice for research! :)

rlaWTX said...

I am so glad I could add a smile to your day!

and thanks for the clarification to Indi about who Beaker is - I remember now!
and I kinda keep hoping that he'll suddenly get some depth.

I know you said you were covering Kagan later, but til then - did I hear that she recused on redistricting? Think it'll happen again on Obama(wantsyoutothinkhe)Care(s)?

rlaWTX said...

(last comment was to Lawhawk, not Andrew)

Ed said...

Shoot, deleted the wrong ones.

Andrew,

Here's how I feel about it. I can't stand Romney, but I fear Newt. I kind of feel like I don't have a choice and I need to vote for Romeny. Then no matter who wins, I won't have a choice then either because I fear Obama more.

Ed said...

rlaWTX, I had a comment to you and then stupidly deleted it trying to fix a typo.

I think the problem with Santorum is he doesn't even care about economics. If he wants to be relevant, he should steal Cain's 9-9-9 plan.

Unknown said...

rlaWTX: Exactly the topic of the article. She recused on the Arizona immigration law, and her involvement in redistricting was minimal, and definitely not enough to support a recusal. So you can guess which one is left. LOL

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, Yes, You've created quite a mess here. LOL! Don't worry, we can delete deleted comments.

On your point, I am torn on Gingrich because on the one hand, I know his potential to be better than Romney is much greater. BUT will he come anywhere near that potential or will he implode in a ball of quasi-socialist flame? His history suggests disaster.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, It did add a smile to my day! :)

I agree with Ed on this point.

I think that Santorum's problem is a that he just doesn't care about economic matters. He talks about cutting taxes for manufacturers, but that's called an industrial policy and it's a form of socialism to start favoring particular industries. Moreover, the only reason he seems to care is some sort of phony blue-collar populism.

If he were smart, he would come out with a real economic plan. Stealing Cain's 9-9-9 plan would be a great start. But the problem is that I just don't think he cares. His issue is gays and that's the only thing he really speaks passionately about.

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, You mean you think she'll recuse herself in the all important Judicial League Softball Tournament? ;)

Unknown said...

Andrew: Yep, that's the one. Now you've ruined the entire afternoon. LOL

AndrewPrice said...

Sorry about that Lawhawk, but it was kind of obvious! :)

rlaWTX said...

I figured as much (Kagan) - that's what I told the TV last night (should be OCare). Luckily, granpa had it up so loud no one else heard me...

T-Rav said...

I'm almost to the point where I'm hoping for a brokered convention. That's beginning to look like the only solution at this point.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I'm thinking a brokered convention is our only chance for someone decent. How else do we get someone who isn't currently on stage?

tryanmax said...
