The angry left which hates voter ID laws now has something to hate even more. It’s not bad enough that certain states want to suppress the votes of minorities, but now the Scholastic Aptitude/Assessment Test (SAT) and American College Testing (ACT) administered by the College Board are implementing student suppression even more effectively than the states are implementing voter suppression.
At this rate, only qualified students will be admitted to college. In the wake of a major scandal involving really bright students who score well on tests being paid to take the SAT or ACT for less bright students, the College Board will now require photo ID standards more stringent than those required of voters in voter photo ID states. Just as voter ID suppresses the votes of innocent minorities, the requirement of the College Board will suppress the college entrance of innocent minorities, the poor, the lowly, and the not-too-bright. How dare they?
So how are the requirements for taking the College Boards different from voter ID? Well, just let me tell you how these racist/fascists are keeping non-white folks down even more obviously than the states. For voter ID, if the oppressed minority doesn’t have a photo ID or can’t afford one, the state will provide one for free, and still allow the person to cast a provisional ballot pending verification of the photo ID. Not so with the oppressive College Board.
First, the oppressed high school student who wants to take the test(s) must upload a photo when registering for one of the two tests. If too poor or too stupid to have a computer, he can mail in a photo which the testing agency will then scan into its computers. But (oh, the horror of it) if the student can’t afford to upload or mail a photo, he’s out of luck. The College Boards make no provision for paying for the photo or taking a “provisional test.”
Then the bastards raise more roadblocks. The photo is then verified, a photo ID relating solely to the test(s) is sent to the student, while at the same time the testing service will have a duplicate photo ID at the test site which can be checked against the one the test-taker provides at the time of the test. Not oppressive enough? Wait, there’s more! The IDs will be checked when the student enters the test site, and each time the student exits and re-enters the site. And to add insult to injury, the monitors will be empowered to check IDs during the tests, particularly if there is any suspicion of cheating.
Is it possible that the requirements don’t actually single out the poor and lowly? The New York Nassau District Attorney who is prosecuting the cheaters in the cheating scandal noted that at least twenty miscreants paid other miscreants to take the test for them, paying as much as $3,500 to do so. I don’t know a lot of poor people who have $3,500 laying around for paying surrogates to take tests for them. But I may be looking at this with the jaundiced eye of a privileged white person, so I need to turn on my white guilt genes.
Proponents of the new requirements scurrilously argue that this isn’t about the poor, minorities, or the underprivileged, but rather about the integrity of the system and protecting the millions of students who don’t cheat and need to have confidence in the overall college entrance examination system. Well, they would say that, wouldn’t they? What they’re not telling you is that the new security procedures were developed by a security firm headed by former FBI Director Louis Freeh. And we all know he’s a racist fascist who wants to deny a higher education to the non-privileged, non-white population. Don’t we?

great post, Hawk! I had not been aware of this. It is easy to understand why people who rely on cheating to milk the system would actually complain when they are called on it. Sounds like their argument must have been dreamed up by B.O.'s old Harvard professor buddy.
Stop that crazy talk, man! We can't limit college to the truly qualified students! How would we ensure a continued money flow from the government--er, I mean, how would we ensure a good education for our youth?
LawHawk,
I don't know anything to add to this. This is one of the most hopeful signs of the times. Now, if a person wants to go to college, why the person actually has to learn something and take a test.
Also, I wonder what Obama thinks of this? Will he be "white" Black about it? Or Will he be "black" White about it?
Oh well, reality sucks. I'm surprised they aren't complaining that these tests aren't free.
Tennessee: I think you're on the right track. There's no indication that the students are complaining, but the usual suspects are jumping in on it, and there are already rumors that Obama may sic Holder's Justice Department on them as well.
T-Rav: Can you imagine what would happen if only well-qualified students got in, and only those with true financial need would get scholarships and student loans? And the loans would be much smaller since cutting out the deadwood and reducing topheavy faculty and administration would reduce the actual cost of getting a real education. Now that I think about it, that'll never happen.
Joel: Obama will take a firm stand as a pasty white African-American. Or something like that.
Andrew: What makes you think they're not? LOL
Lawhawk: And we wouldn't have to deal with stupid courses like White Studies and Intro to Pornography, because the universities would have to focus on providing a real curriculum. Which is also why it'll never happen.
I wish I had thought of paying someone to take my SAT's for me, but then I obviously wasn't smart enough to think of it. Dang that honesty stuff...foiled again.
"Integrity" is just a racist code-word for "whites only."
Oh, the racial-ethnic identity of it all...
I must say, I am bored to tears about this race crap. The race card needs to be permanently revoked…sheesh.
T-Rav: If only that weren't so true.
Bev: Cheaters never prosper, except when they do.
tryanmax: I would think that Americans by now would just be fed up with the whole idea of code words. Honesty and integrity simply aren't code words for anything except in the fevered minds of leftists and race-baiters. But they keep trying don't they?
rlaWTX: We would think that in testing they'd be hard-pressed to make identity politics work. We should know better. This goes on all the time, but I'm now beginning to realize just how hard the left is going to push on these racial identity things in order to shore up their "victim" base for the general election.
Stan: I think the Obamacrats are counting on us to get bored with it while they continue to pander to their "pissed off at everything" base.
Sorry about my first paragraph. It should read there is currently a reduced preice and frre SAT and Subject Tests fee and it follows the guidelines of reduced and free lunches.
Cris: That doesn't entirely surprise me, although I wasn't aware of it. But even given that, unlike the states and voter ID, the College Board currently is being adamant about them having to register prior to the test, and nobody will be allowed to take the test without the ID, free, reduced or fully-paid. No "provisional tests," unlike provisional voting.
LawHawk,
Yeah, I was thinking they would not charge for them for people (but of course I would never qualify for it-- hahaha). BTW, my initial comment disappeared. It was mangled by my poor typing anyhow but that is what I was referring to when I said "in my first paragraph."
Don't forget class and gender. If they can work those two and race into a single question, that's the Holy Grail of modern-day academia.
Cris: LOL I figured your original comment had disappeared into the Blogger black hole. This new setup absolutely sucks, and now I'm chewing my fingernails waiting for what's coming up on April 1 (appropriately). Blogger just makes changes, often for no apparent reason and usually for the worse. We don't know what the changes on April 1 will be, and Blogger never asks for input from its users before making a major change.
T-rav: I have every faith in the race-baiters and leftists to come up with a formula to include them all.
Hawk
An interesting side light; there was a fellow who was considered a poor student and not educable.
There were non of the "Road Blocks" that you describe to shuttle him into the ditch digging vocation. He went on to become one of the most revered mathematical geniuses of our time. Of course I speak of Albert Einstein. Lets also look at the handicapped. Which with restrictions and prejudgements of our educational powers will also short change us.
The more control the more restrictive and the poorer the world will be. Even among the most severely handicapped there are stars. Of course I speak of Steven William Hawking.
The single most interesting observation is that the more conservative yet freedom allowed the greater the advancements we see.
With bureaucrats deciding who is qualified or not, we will miss out on that blazing streak which is the exception.
Tehachapi Tom: The College Boards merely determine indicators of success at college. They don't purport to indicate success in life. It's another reason why I say that college isn't, and shouldn't be for everyone. The problem is not the tests. The problem is that the left and academics have convinced the American people that a college education is a requirement for future success, then managed to convince employers that they should neither hire nor promote those without college degrees regardless of their real life experience and talents. Most of those bureaucrats who are making the terrible decisions are college graduates, and without learning a thing, each degree they add gets them promotions and pay raises regardless of their success rate.
The Einstein story is an old and true one, and while we're at it we might as well add Bill Gates and Winston Churchill who either didn't graduate or were considered dunces. The main purpose of college for a huge percentage of the college population is to learn as little as possible but get a degree which will reward them anyway. At least it keeps them out of the legitimate workforce for four or more years.
