Sister Nancy Explains It All

Well, it’s Sunday, and time for our Catholic instruction from Sister Nancy Pelosi. You see, forty-three Catholic institutions, including several Catholic bishops and archdioceses are suing the Obama administration over its mandate covering sterilization, contraception and abortifacients. But they are wrong, and Sister Nancy explains why.

Speaking of the Pope, cardinals, archbishops and dioceses, Sister Nancy says: “Well, I don’t think that’s the entire Catholic Church. Those people have a right to sue, but I don’t think they’re speaking ex cathedra for the Catholic Church.” The best she could come up with for why all the Catholic bishops weren’t involved was “and there are people in the Catholic Church, including some of the bishops, who have suggested that some of this may be premature.” Well, we know she certainly thinks so, and no doubt there are other Catholics equally hesitant. She didn’t name the bishops who agree with her.

Technically, of course, she is correct. Ex cathedra refers to matters of faith and morals which the Pope has spoken on directly. The rest of the Catholic clergy may pass this message on, but it does derive from the Pope alone. However, Sister Nancy fails to notice that Popes don’t involve themselves in American lawsuits or directly address American law.

The Catholic clergy and laymen involved in the lawsuits are concerned with the law and the Constitution (neither of which Sister Nancy has read). But they did not come at this on their own. Catholic doctrine, as announced by the Pope is that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally and theologically wrong. The Catholic clergy and laymen who have filed the suits are doing nothing more than addressing American law as it affects Catholic religious doctrine and First Amendment religious protections. The Pope didn’t tell them to file lawsuits, but he did tell them what Catholics should see as right or wrong.

So after telling the world that the cardinals, archbishops, and bishops are wrong on theology (no trifling matter for a practicing Catholic), Sister Nancy then went on to tell reporters asking her pointed questions: “You know what? I do my religion on Sunday in church, and I try to go other days of the week, I don’t do it at this press conference.” Then why did you call the conference, Sister? It seems that the adorable Sister Nancy thinks press conferences are designed for her to make ex cathedra announcements without having to explain anything to anyone.

I know I’m treading on thin ice here, but as a Lutheran, I still think the proper understanding of Catholic doctrine is that the Pope is infallible on decisions of faith and morals. Sister Nancy is not, and therefore has some ‘splaining to do.

Ah, the Flying None. Pelosi is an idiot, but she really believes her idiocy. I guess she thinks she knows more about Catholicism than those pesky Bishops or that Pope dude.

Andrew: From what I've seen of her over the years, she thinks she knows Catholic doctrine better than any of those guys. It must be time for a female Pope (Mope?) LOL

So Nancy is sayhing she is one of those Sunday Morning Christians that does whatever she wants the other six days of the week. I thought that was what was wrong with all us right wing extremist hypocrite crisian types.

Liberalism is so confusing isn't it.

Infallability

Accroding to this site if I understand it correctly Nancy Pelosi is wrong ......

maybe I am being too metaphorical in my analysis and making too many assumptions but I am still going to go with one of the meanings of the Catholic Doctrine of infallability is that Nancy Pelosi is wrong about a great many things. I don't expect the Pope to send me any emails telling me thpo think otherwise so I guess outside of a turkish bath house in San Franscisco where oddly enough people there beleive in the infallability of Nancy P I think I will be OK.

speaking of the flying nun: "they hate me, they really hate me"

She reminds me more of Sister Ray (younger Commentarians, there once was a New Yorl Rock 'n Roll Band named The Velvet Underground, and "Sister Ray" one of their more outrageous, notorious songs.

Indi: If she were doing this right, she would spend the other six days in the confessional.

Indi: Oh, boy, is she wrong! I don't have to believe in the doctrine of papal infallibility, let alone explain it. But that's because I'm a follower of the heretic Luther. LOL If I ever choose to become a Catholic (which I have considered as the mainstream Lutheran Church diverges more and more from Biblical teaching, Church history, and Christian basics), I won't be making Pelosi-like statements since they fly in the face of Church doctrine. My big mouth will likely keep me a Protestant for the rest of my life.

Alright, the left honestly puzzles me to no end, they literally must have dug up the Tower of Babel or something, I mean, didn't they say that the government had the responsibility to pay partial medical bills?

Well, I guess some politician had a temper tantrum.

I mean, if politicians took my advice, and drank decaff or orange juice for once, wouldn't some people actually start thinking clearly. Hey, decaff works for me sometimes to help me think straight.

Indi, I agree with you, liberalism is confusing. One day they said the government should pay, the next they demand the Church, a nonprofit organization, pay for it.

I am United Methodist, but I still think the rants are rediculous, I mean, birth control is cheap, and IMO, plenty of contraceptives should be bought on someone's personal money, and it shouldn't be an issue, especially when the law has long been in place, if you want to consider the Supreme Court's Griswold v. Connecticut, a matter of personal conscience. Now, it's all a matter of asking whichever organization you just don't like. I already disagreed with the left, but it's rediculous that they wanted to run on their own personal vendettas here, and that's something I cannot approve of, regardless of left or right, people should grow up, consider society as a whole, and not run on the petty whims and temper tantrums of the politicians.

I bet Sister Boom Boom is a better authority on Catholic doctrine than Sis Nan.

obiwan: As much as I like your idea, decaf won't cure a mental disease like liberalism.

obiwan: I think the spirit of Griswold allowing couples to make their own decisions about birth control is by far the majority concept in America today. Nevertheless, I have always contended that Griswold created the concept of "the right to privacy" out of whole cloth with no law or precedent to back it up. It is a terrible misreading of the Fourth Amendment, and without it, Roe v. Wade might never have become the law of the land.

tryanmax: I think even Sister Souljah also has a better understanding than Sister Nancy.

WE all, even us Protestants, should say a rosary or two for nan. she seems to know even less about her so called faith than she does or did about the health care bill she championed.
The woman is a terrible waste of protoplasm.
If only condoms had been more judicially used we would not be faced with this tribe of socialistic, communistic, liberal fascists that has become a true plague upon the United States of America.

Tehachapi Tom: I think that pretty well sums up my feelings about liberals and Pelosi as well.
