Question: What Superpower Would You Choose?

You’ll never guess what the Commentarama Science Division came up with last night! They made a pill that gives superpowers. Well, to be more accurate, it gives one superpower, and not a good one like superstrength, x-ray eyes or the ability to read minds. What superpower would you want?

The ability to strike liberals deaf, mute and blind. I'll give up deaf and blind if I can get mute.

The ability to know the next Lotto Numbers before they come up.

"Lotto Man" -- now that's a friend I'd like to have!

Evil Lawhawk, evil. Wouldn't you rather have the power to show them the error of their ways?

I think I would like the power to create donuts out of thin (or is it fat) air? Hmmmm. . . donuts. Or to teach dogs to speak.

Superpower: No matter how old I am, I'd a great memory with instant recall.

...and be able to post with no mistakes (ho-ho-ho)

Chris - I always thought have the fun of posting was looking at all the typo's, missed words, etc. that one finds.

I would not want to read people's minds for sure, so I'll go with Super strength. As I get older, I need some length with my driver. I could also pass Pelosi around like a football.

Andrew - I continue to see the I.B.D. mistake about Obamacare being made. I think it important we all give correct informationin order to have credibility, so I wanted to brush up on your comments on that subject. I went back into archives to find it, but couldn't. Admittedly, it was late and I was tired

Let’em talk Lawhawk, but make anybody listening, laugh and point uncontrollably.

The ability to replace all the levers of power in this country, political, press, academia. We’d wake up the next day we would hear from our politicians, “what’s best for the country.” The press, “this is what happened today.” Academia, “class.. we’re going to study reading, writing, history, and arithmetic.”

Invisibility. Knowledge is power and you'd be able to get all the knowledge you'd ever need with that super power!

to be right all the time. oh wait....

I always used to say the power of flight but now, I'd probably say super-strength (assuming that includes regenerative abilities as well).

When I was younger, I used to say x-ray vision, for totally innocuous reasons of course. :-)

I would like the power to discern truth from fiction. These days it has been elevated to a superpower.

I normally say telekinesis (the kind of telekinesis that includes flight), because that would be handy not only in fighting crime, but also in getting the remote that you left in the other room, etc.

But another thought occurred to me: invincibility. The ability to not be killed or hurt in any way. It would be interesting to see the effect that would have on how an individual interacts in society. When the threat of pain or death is gone, what restraints are there to a person's behaviour? Most of the usual behaviour-modifying fears would be neutralized. Hmm.

LoneWolfArcher, Invisibility could be quite fun. . . :-)

Bev, you already have the power to discern truth from fiction. If it's a politician speaking, it's fiction.

Krig, That would make for a pretty interesting experiment. Why bother looking both ways when you cross the street? Of course, they could still lock you up if you abused it. It would make for an interesting story.

Scott, what is it with you people and rules? No superstrength and no x-ray vision. (P.S. Did you see my response in the Star Trek article?)

ScottDS said...

Andrew - sorry! In that case, my chosen superpower will be flight.

(And check out the Trek thread for my reply.)

Perfect health and the inability to procrastinate. Just imagine what would actually get done!

I'm going to combine Andrew's power to make donuts and Monica's health power and give myself the power to eat all the donuts I want with no ill health effects! Mwahahahahaaa. Not that that does any good for the rest of the world I suppose. Tough.

Krig - did you ever watch Heroes? You could end up buried alive and spending eternity hanging out in a coffin, stuck and unable to die. :-/ But I'd sure have a lot more fun driving if I were invincible...

AndrewPrice said...

CrispyRice, I like that idea -- the power to make and eat donuts without consequence! Awesome.

Monica, I'm not sure I can give up my need to procrastinate. Let me think about it and get back to you. . . ;-)

AndrewPrice, CrispyRice, I see your points -- there would be some serious disadvantages! You would need to combine the invincibility with something else, like laser vision or super-strength, but that would be against the rules... :)
