Liberal Insanity, January 1-9, 2011 Edition

This was a bad week for liberal sanity. But if you enjoy watching a good temper tantrum now and then, and you get a kick out of watching liberals expose themselves for the nasty hypocrites they are, then I give you the week that was. . .

Dateline: The Land of Free Speech

We all know liberals claim to represent free speech. But somehow that's always the first thing to go when they don't like what the other guy said. Take the example of the conservative who DARED to make an historical drama about Saint John F. Kennedy. The nerve!

The History Channel originally sponsored this production until they were confronted by liberal filmmaker Robert Greenwald, who had gathered the signature of 50,000 free-speech loving liberals who decided that it wasn't right that someone be allowed to make a show about the Kennedys that doesn't strictly adhere to the standard mythologized Camelot where we ignore all of the bad facts about the Kennedys and paint them as pre-Obama Messiahs.

Concerned that they were about to air unapproved thoughts, The History Channel decided that this kind of programming wasn't consistent with their mission. Said The History Channel, “We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling. . . but ultimately [we] deem [dropping] this as the right programming decision for our network.” No word on whether The History Channel will replace this show with some of the other historical fiction they show periodically or with hard-hitting historical shows like Ancient Aliens. . . did you know Jesus could have come from Mars?

Yet another stunning victory for (approved) free speech!

Dateline: 1984 Redux

You may recall that in George Orwell’s 1984, the protagonist’s job was to rewrite history. He would be given old newspapers and photographs, and he would place a piece of tape over the faces of people who had become unpeople so they could be expunged from history.

So welcome to the 2011 version of 1984. A new edition of Huckleberry Finn is being published which has removed certain words that liberals consider harmful. How far will liberals go with removing unapproved thoughts and words from books? Who knows? Spielberg removed the guns from E.T. and Britain requires the expunging of cigarettes from certain films and cartoons. The communists banned American books. Hitler banned the works of Jews. So at what point will our self-designated thought-protectors stop? Perhaps when everything is finally doubleplus good?

Dateline: Obama Has Forsaken Us

For months, liberals deluded themselves that the Obamessiah really was a socialist true-believer by telling themselves that he had been led astray by the evil Rahm “Judas” Emanuel. The Politico even called Emanuel “center right” and whined that Obama had been “ill-served and misinterpreted by Rahm Emanuel and other center-right aides.” Yikes!

Well, now the appointment of Bill Daley has shattered that delusion. As the Politico has described it, this has "broken hearts across the Democratic Party." Said one Democrat: “There’s a sense of resignation and fatalism.” Liberals are particularly upset that Daley comes from Wall Street and Big Business. . . because they apparently weren’t paying attention when Obama turned the Treasury over to Goldman Sachs. Fortunately, one thing they are NOT upset about (because liberals can't be racists) is that Bill once described the Democrats’ 1988 convention thusly: “For those of us who watched television, what they saw looked like a black party.”

Dateline: The Outrage To End All Outrages

Finally, while those dirty Republicans were reading something called “the Constitution,” which appears to be a pornographic document . . . not that there’s anything wrong with pornography, a lone monster shouted “except Obama” when they came to the part about Presidents needing to be born in the United States.

This brought outraged hand-wringing from liberals who could not believe that someone not on the left would dare to use disruption of a public ceremony as a way to spread their vile lies. Apparently, turnabout is not fair play when it happens to liberals.

By the way, I did not mention the liberal reaction to the Gifford shooting because we've covered it pretty well in the last couple posts, but if you have thoughts on it, feel free to throw those in here too . . . it fits with the theme of liberal insanity.

Andrew, as a grad student in the history field, I can assure you that the History Channel is held in contempt by all those seriously involved in the field. Used to be, we snarkily referred to it as "The Hitler Channel," because of how often it aired specials on World War II, but hey, that was at least a historical topic. Now we have "Ice Road Truckers," "Ax Men," "How the Earth Was Made," and a bunch of other stuff. They might be good shows in and of themselves--I don't know--but they belong on TLC or the Discovery Channel, not here. Those in charge appear to have forgotten that history is not "a bunch of stuff that happened in the past" but everything within the realm of human civilization since the invention of writing. Glutted as it is with this reality programming, the History Channel was a step or two away from irrelevancy even before this thing with the Kennedy documentary.

AndrewPrice said...

T_Rav, I've heard that before that the History Channel is held in contempt by pretty much everyone who studies history.

I've always been a history buff myself and I have noticed that about half of what the History Channel says is either factually wrong or so simplistic that it's completely missing the point.

In the past, however, they've largely avoided political battles -- until now at least.

What I find even more bothersome though, is how easily the self-proclaimed believers in free speech are willing to stifle all speech they don't agree with. For example, they should never have demanded that the History Channel cancel that program. If they felt is was wrong, they should have offered a criticism, or created a counter-program. But to demand that it be shut down and not shown shows you that the idea of free speech is entirely meaningless to them.

AndrewPrice said...

P.S. This is exactly what we're seeing in the truly sickening comments that are being left under articles in places like Yahoo and Politico -- "we need to stop these evil right wingers from saying these evil things that caused this."

Nice collection Andrew. The funny thing about the History Channel's decision to pull the Kennedy program is that it will only further erode the credibility of their brand. Had they had the guts to run it, the small minority of people who signed the petition would've soon forgotten all about it on their way to the next cause to protest. Reminds me of the ABC movie The Path to 9/11 and the documentary Blocking the Path to 9/11 which details how ABC and Disney censored this great docudrama.

The censoring of Huckleberry Finn is laughable (but not surprising.) We won't let you read books with the N-word, but dammit we'll let kids surf porn at public libraries! Are we going to ban most rap songs now? I've been positively amazed at some of the racist filth (in rap songs) I've heard come across jukeboxes in some Pittsburgh bars. One was just a pool hall where the crowd is quite diverse. I can tell you, I am pretty damn offended everytime I hear it. My solution? Don't go to those bars.

And finally, it's hilarious to see the left get the "Code Pink" treatment. Maybe now the left will understand why we revile CP so much. On second thought, probably not.

AndrewPrice said...

Pitts,

Thanks! I assure you the collection could have been a lot larger, but people don't want to read 1000 page thesis on what happened last week.

You're right about the History Channel, they've hurt their brand further with this decision. If they were going to can this, then at the very least, they should have detailed what they thought was factually wrong. As it is, it just looks like they have become "The Liberal Vetted History Channel."

Interestingly, I thought about The Path to 9/11 as well. FYI, Disney is part owner of A&E, which owns the History channel (the other is NBC). So it's Disney again. . . the same people who own ABC, which moved into the White House to sell healthcare.

On Huckleberry, well, porn is within the interests of a liberal interest group, and stopping the use of the N-word in any form and for any reason (except in rap songs) is the goal of another liberal constituency. So there's no contradiction there... if you look at it right! :-)

And I'm with you about being offended by rap songs. I don't mind some rap, but most of it is vile, hateful and deeply racist. Yet, we're supposed to accept that as "urban culture." Give me a break.

And yeah, I love that they got the Code Pink treatment. I think they are actually very concerned about that because they don't want the right getting more physical or stepping up their protest efforts because they know that this is a very dangerous game to play and the idea that the right will now be playing it scares them to no end.

Just for the record and any government officials that may be spying on me, I find both Commentaramma and Ice Road Truckers double-plus good. :D

Ed said...

This has been a horrible week for liberal sanity. You should check out some of the comments they're making on any article they can find about the shooting. It was a leftist people! Whining about a hateful right-wing talk radio is as stupid as believing in Marxism. . . oh. Now I see the problem.

With how quickly liberal beliefs change, there never will be an end to the censorship. Now it's the n-word, next it will be the replacement for the n-word, and then the replacement for the replacement. There is nothing that someone can't find offensive.

AndrewPrice said...

Crispy, We are certified double-plus good! Very double-plus good! ;-)

Actually, if we're going to start banning things and rewriting history, then I have a big list of things I want to see expunged from life. So if they want to play this game, then bring it on! By the time we're done, there won't be a word or thought allowed.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I wrote this before the shooting or I probably would have put that at the top of the list. I've seen the comments and they're despicable. Basically, all the little weak-minded, hateful leftists have crawled onto the internet to call for the deaths of everyone they normally hate, all under the guise of stopping the haters. Why do I feel like this would make an excellent Twilight Zone?

T_Rav said...

Andrew, there was a time when the History Channel actually was just that. Even five years ago, you could usually find a special about the French Revolution, Tsarist Russia, the Black Death, etc. Not overly sophisticated stuff, but they were informative and entertaining. This is why I'm so annoyed at whoever's calling the shots over there; they could do better, they just won't.

Ed said...

Andrew, It feels like the Twilight Zone because of the unreality of it. The guy is a leftist, so they argue that this proves that they need to stop right wingers. They are targeting people who have nothing at all to do with anything. They are spewing the most hateful crap while claiming they want to stop the hate. They even seem to be gleeful about these deaths, like this is the greatest opportunity they've run into in their lives. One thing is for sure, if anyone thought the left had anything worth saying, this proves that they don't.

T_Rav said...

Also, as far as all the idiotic comments about the shooting go, I can't decide who makes me angrier, the more vitriolic bloggers or the more public talking heads who disseminate a slightly milder and therefore almost believable version of this crap. I think Ace of Spades HQ (another blog site) summed it up best in its description of the media's reaction: "Either it's a Tea Party extremist or...please, no labels."

AndrewPrice said...

T_Rav, I know what you mean. There used to be lots of interesting programming -- things that I would actually clear my schedule to watch -- e.g. the one about the Czars or the pirates.

But these days, much of it is mush or reality TV. The parts that aren't are unreliable or incredibly shallow. And they mix in this bizarro garbage like Ancient Aliens, where a group of nuts sits around pretending that if we read everything said in ancient literature as actually meaning "aliens," then maybe aliens visited us. Wow... talk about faulty logic.

I have similar complaints with several of the specialty networks. They seem to hire people who don't realize that the channel has a theme, and they start filling it with the same garbage that everyone else has. Look at Bravo, for example, which once actually was kind of highbrow. Now it's skanky reality TV and the same movies everyone else shows.

FYI, it won't surprise to you find out that most of the channels are owned by NBC or a combination of NBC and Disney. That's why they pass around movies from channel to channel.

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I no longer think the left has anything to add to the debate either. They have no logic, no theory, no consistency -- all they offer is hate and spite. That's not worthy of being considered.

And in terms of the comments, as I've said before, none of it means anything because they know it's not true. This is pure propaganda where they go around attacking the people they hate and they will use (or make up) any cause.

AndrewPrice said...

T_Rav, I agree. It does make me mad that they can say this crap without punishment. These same as~holes who spend their days spewing hate (or the milder version -- though I don't think Pelosi or Olbermann bother with the milder versions) now are running around whining about an environment in which they revel and which makes up their entire ideology?

Seriously, what have they got to offer other than hate? I keep meaning to write an article about that, and maybe now is the time? But at one point, the left actually stood for an ideology that was based on an economic and social theory. But their ideology has all but vanished and all that's left is "I hate this person, we need to crush them, silence them and take what they have and give it to people I like." Pure spite.

BevfromNYC said...

I have to share this HuffPo comment with you - Of course some "Conservative" brought up the Bush assassination movie and this was one of the responses - This is the typical sample response btw...

"Nobody even heard of that Bush assassination movie! If I had, I'd have called that our as being just as inappropriate as the constant spew of right-wing hate that never ends! It's just that we (us liberals) don't espouse violence and violent choices like you righties do!

This was my response - Maybe you can help me add to the list if she says - "Nuh-uh"

Jody, Jody, Jody..."[U]s liberals" don't espouse violence or violent behavior." You might want to check your facts.

Here's just a few groups you might want to study up on - ELF, ALF, New Black Panthers, (heck the Old Black Panthers), the G-8 rioters to name a few. We can't leave out Lee Harvey Oswald and The Weather Underground. You might want to run the name Carol Ann Burger too.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Nice response -- though I also like "nuh-uh"! That's about all they deserve.

Your list is a good one, but never forget that their side killed hundreds of millions in China, Russia, Eastern Europe, Vietnam, Cuba, etc. Other leftist terrorist groups include the FARC in South America, there are some groups in Malaysia and Indonesia and the Philippines, you had the Baader Meinhof group in West Germany, the Red Brigades in Italy, and there are many more.

And in terms of spewing hate, they've been spewing pure, unadulterated hate since 2000. The things they said about Bush and Cheney and then Palin were so hateful that they were borderline criminal. They've called for the assassination of Bush, Cheney, and Tony Blair. I recall one famous leftist talking media head (whose name I cannot remember) saying that they were going to "strangle [right wingers] in their sleep."

And this idea that somehow they are responding to us is crap. They started it, they thrive on it, they continue it. We don't play that game. In fact, ask them to start listing the supposedly hateful things that Republicans have said.

And, while you're at it, ask them if they really want to go down the road of banning speech, as they are a small, small minority in this country and they are the ones who will find their own twisted speech banned.

AndrewPrice said...

P.S. Bev, I've seen the same kind of loony comments all over the web this past couple days. I think this is them venting about being rejected by the electorate.

They are on the way out, forever, and they know it. So this is the first in a series of nasty temper tantrums that we can expect them to throw every time something happens.

Ed said...

Bev, I'm surprised you can take talking to these people. I read some of the comments and just couldn't take it. It's not worth blowing my blood pressure through the roof. Good for you, but I can't take it.

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew = another comment - "Could someone please name me one "extreme" liberal who has assassinated a member of the opposition because of the overheated rhetoric? I'll wait."

It goes with out saying that I responded with a list...

BevfromNYC said...

Ed - It took me awhile to desensitize myself, but once I did, it's very amusing. I learn alot AND I find it fascinating to see they just can't recognize their faults even as they accuse other of theirs. So I feel it is my mission to point it out the them...;-)

BevfromNYC said...

And Ed where else can I get a question like

"Well, what Republican Congressperson was ever been shot in the head during the Bush, Reagan or Bush administrations. I will wait."

I got to respond "Well, James Brady was shot in the head and Reagan was shot in the chest. Does that count?"

Oh, btw way. It didn't. She meant "CONGRESS PERSONS"!

Sen. Kennedy, but he was shot by a Palestinian, so I guess that wouldn't count either...it didn't. Because it wasn't caused by teaparty/Republican rhetoric...

I mean, you can't make this stuff up!

If any good can come out of the Tucson tragedy and the MSM coverage of it, it will be that the American people finally realize that the left is lying to them about nearly everything. A moderate Democrat who was previously a Republican and frequently voted with the Republicans, particularly on gun legislation is somehow the target of a right wing conspiracy?!?! Despite the MSM attempts to squelch the leftist/anarchist/madman angle, most have figured it out on their own. They've seen an alleged law-enforcement officer calling the majority of Americans crazy, bigoted and filled with hate just for disagreeing with the left/liberal line. And they've seen the outpouring of sympathy and prayers coming from the middle and the right. This may be the MSM's last gasp. The most flagrant and transparent distorting of reality for leftist purposes and the exploitation of a tragedy to advance the left's agenda. Those who were not converted during the last election cycle are now considering how badly they've been misled.

1) history channel: yes Republicans pulled "Reagan" off the networks, but it got plenty of airtime elsewhere. When the libs don't like something, they seem to make sure it never is available anywhere. Haven't watched it in a long, long time.

2) I think the Dems will quit when they have total control of a) the internet, b) talk radio c) cable news (see jay"we'll offer up msnbc to get Fox off the air" rockafeller, c) all text books

3) (ranted to the tune of Alan Iverson's "we're talkin' about practice") Hell yeah, Barrack suckin up. He wants a war chest for re-election and he wants it now." O.K. maybe that's more like the Doors-- sorry! Barrack is in full pretend to move to the center mode.

4) Constitution: As some liberal once said "there's a little Joy Behar in us all." Seriously, I was just as offended at Pelosi talking about the Democrats being the protector of the deficit.

5) The shooting - Trying to emulate you guys and keep an eye out on the opposition, I actually tried to watch Lester Holt do an update tonight, but was forced to turn off the t.v. when he said "in a minute we'll discuss what these shootings say about the level of vitriol in today's political discourse." CLICK!

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I don't think I can take it either. I've tried, but the idiot factor is so high I can literally feel myself getting stupider as I read.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Nice work! These people are historically ignorant, they lack logic, they don't grasp reasoning, they don't understand the value of facts or grasp the concept of truth, and yet they think we should care about what is going on this small, angry little minds.

It's amazing that psychologists have just gotten rid of "narcissistic personality disorder" when so many example of it have suddenly appeared all over the internet!

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, You truly can't make that stuff up. And I'm glad you are bringing us the entertainment! :-) But I'm with Ed on this, I think I would go insane trying to read their garbage!

By the way, on the point you make about them not recognizing their own flaws, I've noticed that with the left for years now. I think I noticed it first in the 1980s, when they started accusing Reagan of all kinds of things. It struck me, "wait a minute, you're talking about yourself!" From then on, I watched them year after year and it was always the same -- whatever are their worst fault were, they quickly projected those onto their opponents and then attack them for having those traits. It's truly strange, and it makes me think that liberalism really is a mental condition (and I'm not being snide about that).

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, Normally I don't put much credence into statements about "the public will finally get it," but this one may be different. I'm hearing from people who are generally not-political that they are furious about the way the MSM is abusing and exploiting this tragedy for political gain.

They have really overplayed their hand and this time it may cost them what little they had left in the way of respectability.

StanH said...

I like Ancient Aliens :~)

I’m with Lawhawk the left is in full regalia, what’s left of the MSM’s credibility is vaporizing into thin air. Suicide by bullshit.

Good list.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, There may have been a little Joy Behar in me, but I got rid of it with the last trip to the bathroom.

On the History Channel, a lot of leftists are talking about the Reagan smear-job being pulled off the air, but even if we accept that as comparable -- it's one single example. I can start listing examples of thing liberals are banning and the list won't end before I pass out from lack of sleep. And if I added things they wanted to ban, then I would probably die of old age first.

I don't watch the channel much anymore either. I used to, all the time. But now I don't -- not because of this, but because they've gone goofy.

I don't think the left will stop even then, and here's why. When you watch older television, you see an interesting pattern emerge. Things that were PC years ago are suddenly considered very un-PC. So even if we let the left remove everything they wanted, they would only find new things they wanted banned next year.

In terms of Obama, I can't take him seriously either. So he's wasting his time.

In terms of Pelosi, I don't think she could read off a menu without offending half the people in the room.

I agree with you on the shooting. I've reached the point that this whole thing has turned from sorrow for the victims to anger for the exploiters and I'm done with it.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, I'm not saying it's not an entertaining show! LOL! It's just hardly something that should be on the History Channel -- and it's a great example of the programming they are running, now that they're claiming they can't run the JFK show because they're too serious for docu-drama!

I agree about the MSM -- their credibility has been disappearing for years and this is the kind of thing that will take another huge chunk of it.

T_Rav said...

For what it's worth, here's the letter I sent in to my local paper this afternoon, which due to a 250-word limit was unfortunately bare-boned, but I'd like to think it got the point across.

T_Rav said...

Whoops, forgot to paste it in.

"On Saturday afternoon, I heard of the horrific shootings in Arizona. Not long
afterwards, I began scrolling through conservative websites for more
information, and what did I see? I saw commenters ignoring the fact that the
shot Congresswoman was a Democrat; instead they denounced the killings and
offered prayers for the victims. The few who did try to politicize the news were
set upon by everybody and quickly ejected. Everyone understood that this was not
the time for such partisan games.
Then I began hearing of all the Democrats and/or liberals who were already
trying to blame Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, and the Tea Party for the shooting,
because the killer was "anti-government." This despite the fact that Mr.
Loughner was clearly mentally disturbed, listed "The Communist Manifesto" as a
favorite book of his, and posted an online video of himself burning an American
flag. Not a single notable figure on the Right has condoned his crimes, and yet,
because Palin and others have used war rhetoric in the past election, they have
been accused of inciting this madman.
A question for Keith Olbermann, Andrew Sullivan, Paul Krugman, Jane Fonda, and
all others guilty of this amoral smear campaign: When Barack Obama said of
Republicans, "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun," did he not
also contribute to "a climate of hate"? And if so, when will you begin
denouncing him as well? Where is your shame?"

AndrewPrice said...

Well said T_Rav! Let us know if they publish it -- I doubt they will because that would be hate speech.

It's really despicable that the leftwing MSM has jumped on this and tried to tar the Tea Party, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin for their own crime! And I'm happy to see that everyone is calling them on this. This an outrage!

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew, will do. I doubt they'd do so, because it's a Republican-leaning paper in a very conservative part of the state, but I've seen stranger things happen.

Patti, I feel the same way, but I still thought it was a good idea to put together a record of some of the liberal hate that's been spewed in the past few years. So this afternoon, I'm posting an article that outlines things like liberal protestors calling for Bush to be "killed."

Pittsburgh Enigma said...

Apropos of the accusations of Sarah Palin inciting violence, this little gem popped up on our local PA blog today. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) has been quoted saying the following about the new governor of Florida (Rick Scott) back in October:

Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he's running for governor of Florida. He's a millionaire and a billionaire. He's no hero. He's a damn crook. It's just we don't prosecute big crooks.

The full story is here.

Another of PA's libtard congressmen (Robert Brady-D) is proposing new legislation to protect congress critters from "threatening language and imagery." This story was also linked up on Drudge today.

AndrewPrice said...

Pitts, I heard about the legislation, I actually mention it later today -- I did not hear about the Rick Scott quote, but I'm going to add that to the article. Thanks!

I think you're going to be shocked how open the left has been about calling to have people killed.

Pittsburgh Enigma said...

Andrew, I think I'll send your finished article to that jerk Brady. None of this is going to be good for the Democrat brand. I think they may unknowingly be digging themselves into a big hole of a public relations disaster.

AndrewPrice said...

Pitts, I think they are. As I said somewhere in the comments above, I don't normally accept the idea that "this time the public is going to turn on them," but this time may be different. I'm hearing people who aren't normally political talking about how upset they are about the media coverage of this and how the Democrats are exploiting it.

Patti even mentioned today that they are already using it for fund raising. Talk about unseemly!
