Happy Thanksgiving!

We're closing shop until Monday to honor the Holiday. Feel free to use this as an open thread. Tell us what you're thankful for, tell us your football thoughts, tell us whatever's on your mind. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I'm thankful for the Great Pumpkin.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanks for all the great articles and thoughts throughout the year! :D

I am thankful that we could scrape together the gas money to get my family together. I thank God for my son's health and hope he doesn't have to go to the hospital. I thank God for my daughter's scholarship to school and hope we can afford to see her in Final Invitational for her senior year. I thank God for the leads my husband has on work as his long term contract has an end. May we live in a state not corrupted by unions and the Democrap party. Amen

AndrewPrice said...

CrisD, I wish you and your family the best! :)

I think the Great Pumpkin is a different holiday. Linus Van Pelt would not be amused.

I have a lot to be thankful for. My health, my faith in God, my prosperity--nothing to write home about, but I certainly ain't impoverished--my intellect, and the family and friends I can come home to for the holidays. After several grueling months of schoolwork, I'm grateful to be home and able to just shut the world out for a while. And, of course, I'm thankful for another year of great commentary from Andrew, LawHawk, Bev, the Elves, and all the rest.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. So far I have baked pumpkin bread, three loaves of banana bread,2 pecan pies, 2 apple pies, a chocolate cake, and I am just finishing a chocolate pie. The turkey is brining, the potatoes are pealed, the onions and celery are chopped. Phew!!

I am thankful that I can be with my family and friends to share this beautiful bounty! And God bless our soldiers, sailors, and airmen!

BevfromNYC said...

Thanks T-Rav! And thank goodness for those sock puppets!! And hopefully we have convinced you that shooting tiny innocent sweet little kittens in the face can be counter productive.

Speaking of elves, do they get busy this time this time of year?

Anonymous said...

I'm thankful for four days off. LOL

Thanks for all your participation, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Are you sure? Isn't Thanksgiving the one where we all dress up in costumes and rob liquor stores? Oops, my bad, that's Canadian Armed Robbery Day (CARD).

Thanks to you and to Ed for reading and participating! And thanks to everyone else too who joins in. It's been a fun year.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, This is the time of year I'm most suspicious of they elves. They claim to be super busy, but I can't help but notice that every time I contact them, they're planning some new vacation. :/

Sounds like a lot of good food!

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, Four days off sound like a pretty nice deal! Let's hope nothing happens while we're gone.... like a Russian news anchor flipping Obama off. ;)

BevfromNYC said...

Is Canadian "CARD" Day anything like Boxing Day?

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Do they box in Canada? I thought they just played hockey and got chased by mooses (or is it "meese"?)?

patti said...

I'm thankful for the freedom that remains, but maybe more importantly, the fire in our bellies to keep it.

happy thanksgiving, everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving ladies and gentlemen!

I'm thankful for my family, still being halfway coherent (although that is debatable or so I'm told) and beer. And liberty lovin' patriots like you guys and gals. :^)

I agree Bev, I'm also thankful for our Sailors, Marines, Soldiers and Airmen at home and in foreign lands.
God bless them and keep them safe.

AndrewPrice said...

patti and ben, Well said! :)

I especially like the fire in the belly... we need more of that these days!

Andrew: Don't forget that we pay big bucks to our spies to keep us informed while we're noshing on turkey and stuffing.

I give thanks for a particular gift to the Republic. Leftist Don "I love the British National Health Service" Berwick just threw in the towel as Medicare czar after his recess appointment expired. Though the fingers are already being pointed at Republicans (Washington Post), a substantial number of Blue Dog Democrats made it clear they would oppose this socialist if his name was resubmitted for a full term. So I give thanks that we're at least one small step away from the death panels (aka "rationed care").

tryanmax said...

Well shoot, that make what I'm thankful for seem really stupid, which is fine wine and fancy cheeses. I like busting out the wine and cheese through the holidays.

tryanmax said...

Ah, who am I kidding. It's Franzia and Borden.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, That's better than diet Coke and American Cheese! :)

Happy Thanksgiving Indi!

Lawhawk, I just saw that. That's something I guess, but I will feel a lot better when Obama is gone and we don't have to worry about any of his appointees.

Happy Thanksgiving guys!!! We're especially thankful for plastic surgeons and the magic that is facial reconstruction. Ain't modern medicine great?

I'm thankful for a family that loves me despite my flaws. Sure, they're annoying all year round, but damned if they don't care. And I'm thankful for some great co-workers (technically employees) who do a heck of a job without complaint, plus they can put up with us usurping them into our family.

I worry that life isn't good, despite the good that life is. Life is good. Thank God.

AndrewPrice said...

wasatchmo, Very profound. Life is good indeed, even when we aren't.

DUQ said...

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I'm thankful for America and that I'm an American. I love living in a place where you can make your own destiny.

tryanmax said...

As long as we're working our way down: Grape Kool-Aid and Cheez Whiz! LOL!

Seriously, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and enjoy the blessings of good food and good company.

BTW - Are they going to actually air a parade today? I've seen about 20 chefs give 20 different ways to cook a turkey, but I've only seen about 2 floats.

USArtguy said...

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all at Commentarama!

I appreciate the time you put into your articles and diligence with which you update. Blogs are easy to start, hard to maintain. So many are abandoned after a few months. Thanks.

Football, GONE WITH THE WIND and IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN, not necessarily in that order. And family.

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, I agree! America is awesome!

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, They usually do the Macy's parade on Turkey Day. I haven't looked, I'm not big on parades.

Kool-Aid and Cheese-Whiz is definitely the winner. That sounds like prison dinner.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks USArtguy! It is a lot of work, but it's worth it because our audience is so great. Happy Thanksgiving! :)

AndrewPrice said...

Happy Thanksgiving! Great list! :)

And isn't it great that we might actually get some good games today?! The Lions game in particular looks great this year!

darski said...

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends. May god bless and keep you and yours.

darski said...

Sorry... God should have had a cap... my bad (typing :D )

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks darksi! And happy after-the-fact Thanksgiving to our neighbors to the north!

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise, be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100

Wow, Nickelback sucks. Nice work NFL.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

Andrew:

No kidding. I don't see the appeal of that band. Blech.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

One of my favorite Psalms LawHawk!
Good choice!

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

It seems like everytime 2 high powered offenses like the Packers and Lions play the defenses really step up.

I expect we'll see more offense in the second half though.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, I read that fans in Detroit actually signed a petition to get the NFL to dump Nickelback and get a decent band, but the NFL really has very poor taste when it comes to these things so apparently they ignored the petition.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, I get the sense the offenses are starting to break out now -- at least the Packers.

T-Rav said...

Andrew, is this a new revelation for you about Nickelback?

T-Rav said...

By the way, I hate to destroy Steven Spielberg's dreams, but what do you think happened to horses in World War I? In cavalry charges against machine guns? I'm afraid that kid's chances of getting his beloved horse back are approximately zero.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, No, I just hadn't been subjected to them in years and I wasn't fully prepared for the full force of their suckage when they hit the stage.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

T-Rav:

Actually, this is the first time I heard Nicklecrap.
Hopefully it's the last time, lol.

Andrew:
The Lions are really self destructing with these stupid penalties.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Shhh! Mr. Spielberg doesn't like reality to interfere with his chintzy feel-goodism.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, Absolutely. And for Suh to get himself kicked out of the game is really stupid. I know he wants to be see as tough and nasty, but it's still stupid to get tossed out.

.... of course, the interceptions aren't helping either.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

Stafford learns that the Green Bay secondary can jump...again.

AndrewPrice said...

The one thing I have to say though is that Detroit has shown a real ability to come back from huge deficits.

But that touchdown won't help.

Green Bay is just so impressive this year!

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

As the late, great Gorilla Monsoon would say, Rodgers is poetry in motion. Very impressive!

I think Stafford will get better but he's not up to Rodgers' level yet.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Commentarians!

I’m stuffed, it’s good to be an American.

T-Rav said...

Before I take the plunge, I would just like to register my outrage at the stores which are opening at 9 or 10 p.m. tonight, instead of waiting for Black Friday. You all suck. And here I go, implicitly condoning their behavior by shopping there.

Retail Police said...

We are sorry to report that Mr. T. Rav was trampled tonight by a herd of humanity as he tried to make his way to the discount sockpuppet aisle. . . where he would have procured tremendous savings.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you and we hope you will continue spending beyond your means at our fine retail establishment.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! I went to my brother's girlfriend's family's place for dinner. They are loud! I'm usually the loudest one in the room but I couldn't get a word in edgewise. :-)

My dad wanted me to pick him up an iPod Touch at Target. I drove there at midnight but I didn't want to wait on line. Fast-forward seven hours: I went back to Target and was in and out with the iPod in 10 minutes! Dad gave me the free $40 gift card for services rendered.

As for me, I took advantage of Amazon's Black Friday deal and picked up the extended The Lord of the Rings boxset on Blu-Ray for $49.99 along with a coffee table book on graphic/film designer Saul Bass and two out of four of La-La Land Record's score releases in this photo. (The two on top.)

Hope everyone enjoyed our national day to give thanks yesterday. Mrs. Jed and I were thankful to have our oldest son from Las Vegas in along with the grand daughters up from Biloxi, so sorry I missed a few posts.

Way too much to be thankful for to list here, but I will add my thoughts to others: Bev, Hawk, and Andrew, I have immensely enjoyed your site since you started it. Bravo, and thanks for doing such a good job. Yes, we all lapse into internet snarkiness from time to time, but really, the quality of your articles and the posts from fellow readers truly is "a cut above." I will continue to add my own thoughts, some of which, are even occasionally useful.

AndrewPrice said...

Scott, That reminds me of Space Balls: "my sister's cousin's brother's roommate." "What does that make us?" "Absolutely nothing..."

Interesting that Target wasn't swamped today. I guess that's a little more proof that the economy is in trouble.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, Thanks! :)

And thanks for sharing your thoughts, they're always insightful!

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, Thanks! It is indeed good to be an American! :)

Ben, I thought last night's game ended up really being the only interesting one. I was a little surprised because I thought Detroit Green Bay would be better. Oh well.

Gorilla Monsoon! I haven't heard that name in years!

Stan: Glad you enjoyed the holiday.

Tennessee: We aim to please, although I must admit we occasionally miss the bullseye. LOL
