Yes, we will be doing play by play of tonight's debate. . . what debate you ask? Tonight's ABC/Des Moines Register/Republican Children of the Corn Debate! Live from Drake University in beautiful Des Moines, Iowa! Here piggy piggy piggy.
In case you missed it, Cain put his campaign into suspended animation, like Walt Disney, until a cure can be found for failure. Huntsman lost his invite and can't be there tonight. Michelle Bachmann will attend, but first she has to shake an 8 year old stalker. Rick Perry will attend, after a quick stop at the Brokeback Mountain gift shop. Brokeback Mountain could be Beaker's favorite film. Mitt Romney plans to attend provided everyone thinks that's the right choice for him and for America. Newt plans to appear because he invented debating and he luvs him some cow tipping. And Ron Paul will appear, but won't be allowed to speak.
Anyhoo, the debate is on ABC. . . 9:00 pm EST. We'll put a link to the live feed: (HERE).
In the meantime, while I have your attention, I need some help coming up with a list of films that you think include genuine liberal "sucker punches." :)

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 447 of 447And let me clarify, I'm not saying Beaker did a good job, I'm just commenting on how poorly the rest did.
Is Newt married to a Stepford wife? She looks like a robot.
Interesting question. Did anyone actually "win" this debate?
Thanks a ton to everyone who participated! You were all great and made a painful evening enjoyable.
I'll do a recap for Monday afternoon if I can bring myself to do it.
T-Rav, Santorum "won" in the sense you win a nuclear war.
Winner: Golden Grahams
A total dark horse, I know, but that is what I am eating right now. How's that for cereal hypocrisy?
tryanmax, They spent $500,000 at Tiffany's... she is indeed a Stepford Wife.
A third page for the thread!
Andrew, ?????? Am I going to have to put the whole place on lockdown? Because those are the very last words I thought I would ever hear you say--except for something like, "Kristen Stewart is one of the most appealing and charismatic actors in Hollywood," and so on.
Man... I gave up "Snowmaggedon" for this. Grrrr.
The.worst.ever. I am still hearing the lib commentators who are say that Romney won't win b/c he laid a $10,000 bet. Big discussion on it.
tryanmax, you're just a fringe nut. With actual nuts, of course.
I agree with Andrew, great job everyone! I thank you, my sockpuppets thank you...
T-Rav, It's stunning, that's for sure. Terrifying.
I'm not really kidding when I say that I kept thinking a plane crash on the debate would have been the best thing that could have happened to this country.
I would like to extend thanks to Diane Sawyer, Corn, Beans, and all the Cereal Hypocrites.
Loser: jello wrestling fans.
I too would like the thank the Cereal Hypocrites and extend my deepest apologies to Captain Crunch. But not Count Chocula.
Whatever, you just think Cap'n Crunch is the flavor of the week.
Flavor of a generation!
Interestingly, a friend of mine who's all in for Romney just texted me bemoaning the man's performance. Looks like this didn't go well for him, which makes me happy until I think of the other people running.
You know what? You guys just wait until the next debate, and we'll see Chocula has been overtaken by Honey Comb. Bank on it.
Wait, there was a debate tonight? I was just randomly saying things about the candidates. (j/k)
tryanmax, You did a good job faking it. It's like when you line up Dark Side of the Moon with Wizard of Oz!
T-Rav, Honey Comb? I can support Honey Comb... or Sugar Bear.
But I draw the line at Fruit Loops.
Freudian slip o' the night: The local anchor led into the debate story by saying the candidates were in Iowa to tell Americans why they shouldn't be president.
tryanmax, That just about sums it up.
The local anchor is wiser than he knows, sounds like.
Like Jedi master....
Dang, my internet service went down briefly. Who won? Is there any cereal left?
Bev, I'll give you a clue.
We didn't win.
There is cereal, but it's crawling with hypocrites.
Andrew
Scary Movie 4 (the bad spoof has a direct shot at George W Bush).
Vampires Suck has this shot where they talk about Vampires being heartless bloodsucvkers you know like Republicans.
There was a Punisher film (the third one which I beleive was not related to the first two where the criominals state we will get an army to fight the punisher just like the US Military does, from the minorities and the poor. Then has a backdrop with the bad guy behind a flag like a recruiting poster from WW2. IT was not a good movie anyway.
And how can we not forget the last of the Star Wars prequel Revenge of the Sith I forget. Darth Vader aka Anakin accuses Obiwan of either being for or against him using the exact words W did after 9/11 about the terrorists and Obiwan says Onlyh a Sith would think in such absolutes.
Off the top of my head that is what I remember but there are many more.
Thanks Indi, I'm trying to remember, but it seems to me the Scary Movie franchise had quite a few moments like that.
I didn't see the Punisher film you're talking about, but that would definitely qualify! Thanks.
P.S. Indi, Actually, that Punisher bit would be very useful because that's a long-time Hollywood boogeyman which has never been true.
Thanks to all of you for doing this.

Here is the link (sorry no html code)
The movie was Punisher War Zone I am pretty sure this was the one. The scene is so cheesy that you can't miss it.
By the by with regard to Starship Troopers. I have read a lot of Heinlien but I am not sure I have read that one. Do you know if the book treated the concept of citizens having to serve and being able to vote with the same disdain.
The one thing I saw from the movie was the obvious dig at the justice system. The murderer is caught and tried in one day and his execution is televised that night. Typical liberal straw man argument. I liked the movie but felt that the way they approached it violated the spirit of what Heinline was trying to communicate.
Thanks Indi!
I'll have to look for that because it sounds like the kind of thing I need.
On Starship Troopers, I actually haven't read the book, though I keep meaning to. I just can't ever find the time to read anything, especially with all the writing I do.
My understanding though from talking to fans of the book is that they completely abused it. The book is about the relationship of the two friends as they become soldiers (turned into boyfriend/girlfriend in the film). But liberals have interpreted the book as being pro-fascism. Verhoeven made a particular point of how much he hated the book and felt it was pro-fascism, so he wanted the movie to ridicule the book. But all he ended up doing was making a very pro-fascist film himself and stealing almost every idea from other war/sci-fi films.
Fans of the book HATE the film.
Apparently, they are remaking it now.
Wow! I missed all that. I'm still taking in the comments, although I'm a little unclear so far on where Starship Troopers and The Punisher fit into the debate. LOL
Well Lawhawk
You have to understand things from an Obama perspective. Obama's policies are really out there and the people who support him and especially the Union thugs and government employees who exercise the his policies are like Storm Troopers.
Thus Starship Troopers...
As for the Punishment that is easy. Punishment is what every American is enduring due to Obama's policies.
Does that clear things up for you.
@Andrew ... Thanks, I have not read the book but I got a sense watching the film that it was made to belittle Heinliens work. When I say it was an OK movie I mean from the perspective of the action and the personal story of the three students who survive to the end. This was good enough that I was able to ignore the annoying ideological jabs thrown in the Federal Network News vignettes.
I will say this however when we talk of a conservative film we tend to talk of a film that illustrates our values. When liberals talk of liberal messaged it always seems to be mocking or insulting a conservative value and very rarely is it about showcasing liberalism. I find that telling...
Hey Andrew,
How about ostensibly Liberal Movies that actually celebrate Conservatism and Capitalism and sucker punch Liberalism? I bet we could find a few of those. "Other People's Money" comes to mind.
Oh, and I believe that "It's a Wonderful Life" is a sucker punch. Yes, I know, but when Marlo Thomas does the remake.... well, I don't think she is a Conservative. Is she?
tryanmax,
"Grease"? How so? With this movie, I just enjoyed the hell out of it.
Andrew,
"Starship Troopers" is Robert A. Heinlein's response to the unilateral US cessation of nuclear testing during the fifties. The book has been mischaracterized by leftists all the time. In the book, only Citizens can vote. To become a Citizen, a man or woman must complete a minimum of two years hard service in some capacity working for the community. Usually as a test subject for new equipment. As the guy in the book explained, "Engineers usually get all the deadly bugs, but nothing beats live testing." Also, anyone can apply to become a citizen. No one is rejected unless the person is mentally incapable of understanding the Oath. That is in response to the warm body vote that we now enjoy.
The story follows one man who starts out as a boy of eighteen years. He is assigned to the MI. Mobile Infantry.
Also, there was no nudity in the book. That was created out of whole cloth by the director and screen writer. The only thing I really liked about the movie were the insects.
One more thing, Heinlein hated Communism with a deep passion. Despite that, he actually traveled to the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. He witnessed things that would never ever be exposed by the New York Times.
Heinlein also was an engineer. He never ever faked science in his books. Even his fantasy, "Glory Road" is great.
Joel, I was asked that before. Here is my answer.
Indi, You're welcome. Liberalism has become about mocking conservative values as it has little else to offer.
fyi, looking ahead at the comments, I think Joel has a more solid answer on Starship Troopers. I agree with you though, the film was good enough on it's own, but I too could tell it wasn't treating the book very fairly.
Joel, I'm getting the sense we all like Grease. I'm not sure I see the liberalism. It doesn't really advocate liberalism, to the contrary all the anti-traditional-values things the kids do get them into trouble.
Other People's Money! Good call. That is a conservative film. I may have to include that one. Thanks!
Thanks for the info on Heinlein. He's also been called the father of libertarianism for some of his books, so I can't see him advocating fascism. I keep meaning to read this one, but just never have the time to get through my reading list. FYI, they are doing a remake, so maybe they'll be closer to the novel next time?
Andrew: Here is a link to quotes from the movie FYI
http://www.allsubs.org/search-movie-quotes/punisher+war+zone+:+fight+scene/1
Movie Name: Punisher: War Zone (2008)
Quote:
Loony Bin Jim: That was fun... Now, lets go kill Castle in his
miserable hole.
Billy Russoti: No, not yet. Were gonna have ourselves a little bit
of fun with this. Next time he has to face us and a fucking army.
Loony Bin Jim: Where do we get the army from?
Billy Russoti: Just like Uncle Sam bro. We recruit in troubled
neighborhoods. Offer a hundred grand towards a college education
theyll never get, promise nobody ever has to go to Iraq. [laughs]
Loony Bin Jim: Just as long as I get to kill Castle.
Billy Russoti: Dont worry brother you will. Just making damn sure
this time he dont come back breathin.
Movie Name: Punisher: War Zone (2008)
Quote:
Billy Russoti: [Jigsaws recruitment speech] Whoa, gentlemen,
gentlemen. Relax. Were lookin for, uh, a few good men. And wed
like to offer you the opportunity to be... all that you can be. Now
weve all suffered loss at the hands of the Punisher. And because
we dont look like everybody else, and because we dont act like
everybody else, nobody does a g0dd@mn thing about it! Well I say he
aint the only one who can take the law into his own hands. So if
youre as sick of this cocksucker as I am, raise your armies.
Youll be well paid, youll be well armed, and at the end of it,
the Punisher will be dead!
Excellent! Thanks Indi. Wow. That is obnoxious!
I dunno. To the best of my recollection, Grease presents a pretty consequence-free situation. Sure, part of the humor is that the kids think they are badder and tougher than they are, so they never do much anyway. But they openly joke about how, Greased Lightning is cobbled together from stolen parts. What should be a huge deal, Rizzo's pregnancy scare is a minor plot point and once resolved, there's no indication that she intends to change her behavior. And, of course, the climactic event is that Sandy puts her principles aside to fit in with Danny's friends. The only positive message in the film is that Teen Angel tells Frenchy to go back to high school.
Maybe it is more of an affront to traditional values than a direct liberal assault, but I think that's how liberalism creeps in. First, you have to set aside conservative principles before you can pick liberal principles up. If anything, I would say this is one of the most successful liberal films ever, because it successfully imparts its message without being heavy handed or even being noticed.
Damn. I missed it. Hope that Andrew will be doing a recap?? :)
Writer X, I'm doing one this afternoon (4:00 EST).
