Question: New Year's Resolutions

With the new year upon us, it’s time to play the resolutions game. You know the one, where you swear to do things and then you see how fast you can break those promises! Well I’m through with that. This year I’m sticking with my resolutions. In fact, that’s my only resolution: “This year, I resolve to stick with my resolutions.” I’m feeling quite confident of my chances. What are your resolutions?

Andrew: I resolve to vote for any Republican candidate who passes Ronald Reagan's "80%" test, even if I don't like some of them. It is so vital that we win the next two election cycles, that I'm being a little less obstreperous than usual. America cannot survive two more election cycles with Democratic supermajorities and left wing ascendancy. Right now, a so-so Republican is a more important candidate than a "conservative" Democrat.

That's the only resolution I can think of that I will stick with--to the hilt. Although I'll probably give up smoking, again.

Lawhawk, I would agree with you, except that I don't want to start cluttering my list of resolutions. I think the one is just fine. . . very doable. It's once you start adding more that it goes wrong!

My two resolutions last year were:
-walk the treadmill for at least one mile a day
-brush and floss every night

So far, I've managed to do the treadmill about 80% of the time (and usually for two miles). Flossing... not so much. :-)

This year, while not setting them in stone, my resolutions would be:
-continue the treadmill (though I'll be moving to NY and walking a lot anyway)
-meet a nice girl

Andrew: Thanks--you're my enabler. I won't give up smoking this year. LOL

Scott, The trick is to pick something you can't possibly fail it -- like "I resolve not to wake up drunk in any more Russian train stations." Very easy.

How's the NASA thing going?

Anything to help Lawhawk! :-)

By the way, I think you can change "enable" to "disable" somewhere in the options. . . if you run on XP.

Andrew: I do run XP on both of my computers. So if I use "disable" does that mean I can simply ignore trying to make any silly resolutions entirely? Better to be stopped in my tracks than to have to admit I lied later. ;-)

I resolve to play the piano way more than I stare at the computer. Although I've said that the last three years or so.
I'd also like to take a stab at songwriting.

Hopefully I won't be saying the same things next year!

Andrew - Thanks. And the NASA thing is going by just fine. I leave in two days. I spent thirty days in bed and got up a couple Fridays ago. I've gone through more tests and a few days of reconditioning. My muscles are fine now - no longer sore. And my feet have stopped tingling when I touch the ground.

I know I left this link here before but if anyone else is interested in reading about it, simply go to http://pillownaut.blogspot.com/ and click on the box on the right-hand side: "Meet the new Pillownaut"

Your feet tingle when you touch the ground? I'd resolve to get that fixed! That was thirty days in bed huh? Yikes.

Writer X, Stabbing a song writer is not the answer. . . well, I guess it depends on what the question was.

Good luck with the piano. I'd like to learn to play an instrument, but that seems beyond my skillset (which seems to be limited to buying donuts).

Andrew, that's the bummer about resolutions: They always sound great after a few eggnog martinis, but then reality sets in the next day.

P.S. No Songwriters were stabbed in the creation of this resolution.

I resolve…

I resolve to become more involved. Attend more Tea Party’s, town halls, defend America, hassle Barry and the democrats whenever possible, take no prisoners, Ha!

Make more money! Despite Barry the Bolshevik.

Lawhawk, nobody can call you a quitter. Cigarettes are a bear to quit, it took me about three years, but it’s been twenty since I’ve had one, I really enjoyed smoking : (

StanH: I appreciate your support, but I have to go now. I'm running low on cigarettes.

i resolve to learn more interesting curse words from the youngans. my slang is aging...

Andrew - my feet stopped tingling but for the first week or so, they would tingle as they hit the hard, cold floor... kind of a pins and needles feeling. Right now, while I'm hesitant to say I'm 100% back to normal, I'm pretty close.

I have three more tests (only two require any kind of exertion on my part) and that's it. 48 hours from now, I'll be on a plane going home.

Stan, Good resolution!

Patti, Even better resolution! There's nothing worse than out of date slang. Word.

Scott, That sounds painful. Glad to hear you're ok. Good luck in New York!

I'm going to get completely out of debt and actually finish writing/editing a book. Good luck, everybody!

Getting out of debt is always a great idea! Good luck!

As a nod to Writer X - I resolve to drink more martinis so all my resolutions will sound great and reality will not set in!

And because I always end up doing just the oppposite of my resolutions:
I resolve to NOT lose weight
I resolve to NOT exercise more
I resolve to NOT try to be a better person and friend
