Everything you know is a lie. Sorry. The world around you. . . not real. Your body is plugged into a vast computer somewhere, and what you perceive as reality is nothing more than a computer simulation. Think “Tron.” Before you, there are two pills (plus some vitamins from your mom). If you take the blue pill, you will forget what I told you, and you can go about your life in blissful ignorance. Take the red pill and you will see the world as it really is. It could be pretty be horrible though.
Which do you choose? Blue pill. . . red pill. . . why?

Ha. Good analogy. And kudos for the Tron mention. Oldie but a goodie.
JG, I've always liked Tron. It was a great idea for the time and I'm surprised they haven't tried to remake it with modern CGI.
Glad you caught the analogy too. ;-)
Interesting. I always felt "plugged in", but I always thought it was by choice.
I would take the red pill. I want to see the world for what it is because the "truth shall set you free". Buuuuut, if one was to take both, would they see the world for as it is and just not care?
BTW, thank you. I can now add vitamins to my ongoing list of things my parents did not give me. The list now includes a pony and a playhouse. I will let my mother know.
Bev, They never gave you a pony? How horrible! :-(
I also would take the red pill. I believe in controlling my own destiny, even if my destiny turns out to be less pleasant than just ignoring reality.
Is the TRON like the BORG? Red pill, definitely.
Flintstones chewables from my Mom rocked my morning! Mmmmm...
Add me to the red pill list. (I hope it's fruit punch flavored.) I'd always rather be told the truth and deal with it than be told what people think I want to hear and find out later they were full of it. I can deal with reality better than fantasy.
CrispyRice -- You had a great mom! Flintstone vitamins = love! :)
Writer X, Tron is not like the Borg at all! Tron (played by Bruce Boxlietner) is a stand up guy, fighting the system all by himself to guarantee everyone's freedoms from an oppressive government (master computer program).
The Borg, on the other hand, are what has happened to the American left -- a group think hive.
P.S. Everyone, just in case I was too obscure -- which can happen at times, I was kidding about the Tron reference. This scenario is straight out of the Matrix, which we will review someday even though it will take me weeks to figure out how to explain all of the religious and philosophical references.
Andrew: I'm taking the blue pill. I want to be happily ignorant. Then I'm going out to buy a lid so I can happily pay more taxes. If we all start taking the red pill, pretty soon we'll all think we're as smart as our betters. The next thing you know, we'll be surrounded by rabid freedom-lovers. What a mess that would be.
Red pill because you get to see Sarah Palin as the ferociously beautiful woman you can admire.
Crispy Rice! You are lucky! My mom made me take no name brand that came by the ton...Did you get the Flintstones jelly jars, too!! My friend's mom got them and I always insisted on that glass when I visited.
CrisD -- they came in jellies? I had no idea. I just knew about the chewables. Hmmmm, chewy, healty goodness.
On Palin, I certainly wish her success. She was the only part of our ticket in 2008 that brought me to the voting booth. Whether her current move will work, only time can tell?
I've avoided writing about Palin at this point because I do not believe in endorsing candidates this far out or even in picking a leader.
The GOP is in trouble because it doesn't understand what it believes. And I think that Palin's gamble or Sanford's stumble or Jindal's bad speech are all just a side show to what we really need -- intellectual clarity.
And to achieve that, we need a bunch of leaders coming up with ideas, defending those ideas, and implementing those ideas. The rest is all intra-party politics.
But as we get closer to the elections, we'll certainly discuss the various candidates.
dude, i so took that red pill years ago. i think it came in a package of m&m's. the 70's kind with the red dye that can kill you.
CrisD, many condolences on the generic vitamins. We did not get the jelly jars, but my DBF did and he still uses them to this day!
Patti -- LOL!!
I could tell from reading your blog! You've got a great way to cut right to the heart of the issue. I recommend everyone got visit -- NOT A WONK (see our links).
The blue pill of coarse, Andrew! My wife and I are getting ready to move into our state issued teepee and our government liaison said it would be best to take the blue pill, blessed be the Barry, for he is most wise and merciful, hope-change-hope-change…
You’re going to write a review of the Matrix Andrew, it might be best to let Lawhawk write that one with his lid and blue pill?
I want to take the blue pill because blue is my favorite color. And probably tastes better. But I kind of like seeing things different than everyone else...but that would be kind of lonely if everyone else was connected and didnt see what you see. I don't like this game at all.
All this talk about vitamins has got me humming the "we are flintstone's kids, we are strong......and growing". Good tune.
Andrew, most importantly :o), the jars held jelly with various flinstone antics on them and then you could use the jelly glass----unless your mom got SMUCKERS!
I should have said "ferociously beautiful person" and of course we are free to admire and what this woman accomplished this past fall. Maureen Dowd is a contemptible and miserable human being.
But, heck no, I don't pick 'em til the field becomes clear and the landscape settles. But, funny, I remember voting for Bush(I) in the primaries and thinking Reagan was a movie star. -Not a comparison of people- I am just agreeing that politics turns on a dime.
Crispy-
What elegant wine glasses!
sooner or later reality will bite you in the ass. To be forewarned is to be forearmed and maybe you can change destiny; hence, red pill. This post almost sounds like it was somehow linked to Lawhawk's post on San Francisco
You guys all had it too easy. For years I thought the only jam and jelly manufacturer was Mason. You went to the Mason jar, looked at the handwritten label, then opened it, and if you were the first, you removed the wax seal before scooping out the contents onto your bread or toast. My favorite vitamins were called Walgreen's or Sav-On. And for years I didn't know that M&Ms were a brand. I ate them for years and they never had the "m" on them. It's because my mom bought the treats by the pound at Sears. The first time I saw one with the "m" I thought there was something wrong with it.
Somebody get StanH some red pills... STAT!
CrisD, I remember those jars!! Holy cow, I had forgotten all about them. And you're right, Dowd is a contemptible little troll.
Freedom21, I remember that song now too! Isn't it funny what we can retain in our minds for so long?
law: generic m&ms?! made me laugh and blech at the same time.
Jed, you are right -- reality will always get you. . . as Obama is learning right now.
I don't see the link to Patti's site--does it go by another name?
CrisD,
I'm sorry, I should have included the link. Here is patti's site:
Not A Wonk
Okay, I changed my mind. I want the blue pill. I just don't want to remember anymore. You guys got jam, jelly, and M&Ms AND vitamins?!?! I bet you got ponies too! I HAD TO EAT VEGETABLES IF I WANTED VITAMINS! There were 4 major food groups and I ate from everyone, everyday. It is clear to me now that Mother did not love me enough. Bam-bam, Pebbles, Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty in fruity, vitamin-filled flavors are lost to me forever...
when boy was little and i was having a hard day, i'd say: go get mommy her pills. oh how he loved when i self-medicated cause that meant he was gonna get some too. we'd get high together.
stop having a heart attack!! my pills were m&ms, regular not peanut. interestingly, i always picked out the red and blue ones and put them aside. they has a bitter twang.
Bev, I'm sorry to hear about your deprived childhood. :-( It it makes you feel better, we only had the one pony?
Patti, self-medicating with M&Ms? LOL! Now that's good medicine!
Well
I guess I would have to snatch both pills and the vitamins and down them all at once with a Diet Mountain Dew Chaser.
Simple:
Blue Pill/State = Blissfully ignorant Democrat
Red Pill/State = Reality loving Conservative
StlDan, clearly you've already taken a red pill!
Individualist, that's where the expression "I've forgotten more than you'll ever know" comes from.
Andrew
I think the real question for most Americans would be which one makes you taller and which one makes you small!
Unfortunately Alice is at the Betty Ford Clinic and cannot be available for questioning.
BTW: I have already forgetten more than I ever knew or is that backwards. These dream sequences always confuse me so.
Bev, it's not too late! I still take a children's chewable, though I will confess a preference for Scooby Doo ones now. ;)
CrisD - I prefer Barney for a nice Pinto Grigio, but Fred when we have a Zinfandel.
And I'm still sticking with the red pill, you can't make me deny reality!
