Obama's Words Are "Racist"

Did you know Obama’s very words are racist? Actually, let me rephrase that: repeating Obama’s words without cleaning up his mistakes is racist. . . even when the mistakes are intentional. So says the race-baiting industry.

Last Saturday, Obama gave a speech at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's “Cry Racism” Dinner. During this speech, Obama used some negro dialect (to quote Harry Reid), which apparently involves dropping many of the g’s from his words. Hence, he said things like:

“Stop complainin’. Stop grumblin'. Stop cryin'. We are going to press on.”
You tell ‘em Barack! He may even have said, “lon’ duk don’” but that’s unconfirmed. Anyway, the AP repeated this in a transcript without cleaning up Obama’s diction as they do for such other luminaries like every NFL player.

Enter the idiots. . . Afro-American author Karen Hunter whines that it was “inherently racist” not to clean up the president’s speech. Oh tell me more!
“I teach a journalism class, and I tell my students to fix people’s grammar, because you don’t want them to sound ignorant. For them to do that, it’s code, and I don’t like it.”
Code huh? So now it’s racist code to quote black people accurately? Interesting. Isn't this the same crowd that claims Ebonics is a language that should be respected? But now it’s racist code when whitey doesn’t whiten up a black person’s quotes? Does anyone see a problem here? And does anyone wanna bet that if they did clean up Obama’s speech, some other race-baiter would have screamed “racism” because clearly the reporter was “trying to wipe out Obama’s blackness”? They might even have called it “genocide,” like they do when white people adopt black kids.

The AP is now offering sniveling assurances that it always cleans up people's quotes and thus presumably should have cleaned up Obama's. . . although when the Bush White House tried to clean up his quotes, the AP refused to go along. Hmm. I guess the AP was racist against the Bush family.

Is it just me or is this getting really stupid? We’ve reached a point where this whole racism issue has become a mental problem. They are seeing racists lurking behind every corner, under every rock, in every cup of Tea, and hidden in every word. The word “black hole” was recently called racist. The words “picnic” and "tar baby" are supposedly racist. Now quoting Obama using a form of speech that tends to be associated with class, not race, is racist. This needs to stop.

But there are no signs this is even slowing down. Obama’s speech actually brought howls of racism. . . only without the word itself. Maxine Waters whined that Obama’s speech “surprised” her and was “not appropriate”:
“. . .the president spoke to the Hispanic Caucus. . . and he certainly didn’t tell them to stop complaining. And he never would say that to the gay and lesbian community. . . or even in a speech to AIPAC, he would never say that to the Jewish community ‘stop complaining’ about Israel.”
In other words, she thinks he's treating blacks in a discriminatory manner, and you can bet she would be screaming racism if he were white -- just as Emanuel Cleaver admitted that they "probably would be marching on the White House" if anybody but Obama was President.

And for good measure, several others are now debating what Obama meant when he said, “take off your bedroom slippers [and] put on your marching shoes.” Apparently, there may be some racism in that too, depending on whether “bedroom slippers” is somehow code for something inherently black. No, I'm not joking.

Idiots.

Bill Shakespeare wrote, “The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves.” Maybe that’s something blacks should think about... “the racism, dear friends, lies not in all around you, but in yourselves.”

Andrew, maybe I'm just not really knowledgeable about this sort of thing, but since when are journalists supposed to "clean up" people's grammar to make them not sound ignorant? Aren't they supposed to be recording facts, which I presume would include preserving the original words? I don't know, I guess I'm just not smart enough to teach a journalism class.

Anyway, this is just further proof of the interest-group aggregation that makes up the Left. They have absolutely nothing else to say except cry oppression by one group against another.

at the very leat pathetic. It is indicative, I think, of how people totally can twist logic in order to back their own beliefs, biases, prejudices. During this administrations reign, it does appear race baiting has become more obvious, frequent, and yes silly to the point it has lost it's ability to galvanize. In fact, it may have the opposite effect in terms of backlash creation.

I used to ignore this stuff. Now, if anybody even hints that opposition to B.O, is "racist" I counterattack, often in less than civil tones.

I agree Andrew, they are all idiots!

OT - Did you hear that Dan Hampton of the 1985 Chicago Bears refused Obambi's invitation because he is "not a fan of the guy in the White House?" I say good for him. Of course, how soon can we expect to hear cries of racism hurled at him - if they haven't already started?

Another OT - Dennis Miller is endorsing Herman Cain - wow!

Sorry if these have been posted in other threads - I haven't had time to read all of the comments.

My God! …caterwauling about race, or racism in 2011 is beyond boring. I believe what we have is the beginning of the death knell of the race industry. Perhaps not in pockets of Americans, but as a whole the race card is maxed out. Screaming racism is an emotional plea that only works when, the plea has merit, or in a vacuum. Unless I missed something, we elected a half black man for president in ’08, and at present the leader of the Republican field is a whole black man Herman Cain (according to Zogby). Also the people that they are slinging their vile invective, do not understand their enemy (their words). They are successful, free thinking Americans who use reason and logic to guide their day, subsequently baseless charges of any kind will be left wanting on the field of true ideas.

Mr. Bill S. also told us, “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark…” Interchange Denmark, for Washington, CBC, NAACP, UAW, AFL-CIO, K-Street, you pick.

StanH, you may have hit on something - our problem is that there is half a man in the WH!!!!! ;)

the denomination for which I work just had a meeting to discuss race and social justice in the church. Mind you, this denom is losing membership at an alarming rate and has scores of churches unhappy about recent decisions. But they got together and discussed "cutting the pie" and "getting invited to the table where the pie was being cut".

Andrew: "He don't do nothin', but he must know sumpthin', dat ole Obama, he just keep rollin' along." OK, that was my racist musical interlude for the day.

T-Rav, Beats me. Apparently you do it when you want your subject to sound like they aren't an idiot (like with NFL players) or Democrats, and you don't do it when you want to make them sound stupid like with Republicans.

If you've ever seen an interview with someone like Mike Vick, then you know what I mean. 80% of what he says is incomprehensible and the rest is noted only for foul language, misuse of words and bad grammar. Yet the quotes attributed to him sound like they came from William Buckley.

AndrewPrice said...

I think you're right. They have really gone over the edge now that Obama has been elected. Everything is racists -- the slightest criticism. And to use things that have nothing to do with race as a basis for claiming racism only makes that worse.

Plus, now we're seeing the blatant double standard in how they are happy to accept things from Obama when they would have called those racist under Bush. People notice those things.

I also think the obviously made up charges of racism at the Tea Party rallies exposed how despicable people like Maxine Waters really are and how false the allegation of racism has become. It's a political charge, just like the Soviets used to use "bourgeois" against people they didn't like.

In the end, I think this has galvanized people against the word, and that's a good thing in the end.

AndrewPrice said...

TJ, I saw both of those stories! I'm sure Dan Hampton will be blasted by all the good liberal sportswriters and no doubt the word "racism" will be used.

I saw that about Dennis Miller. Cain apparently has few endorsements and hopefully this will be start of something for him.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, All great comments! I especially like the image that the race card is maxed out. Very true. For decades, everyone cowered whenever the word "racism" was thrown out. But at this point, no one does anymore. They've used that to attack their enemies and as an excuse over and over for everything and I think people have grown sick of it. We know it's not true. So why be frightened by it anymore?

At this point, I think crying racism means nothing in most of the country anymore.

I also think it's fascinating that a people who just elected a black man could be considered racist against blacks? What kind of logic can produce that result?

AndrewPrice said...

P.S. TJ, Did you see the scandal when 4 or 5 NASCAR drivers said they couldn't make it to the White House? The outrage among liberals and sports writers was incredible.... and despicable.

Apparently, you not only can't criticize Obama (or report his precise words), but you need to worship the man when he demands to see you.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, I don't get it? They are losing people because they've gone liberal and they think the answer is more liberalism? Or the answer is to start begging conservative denominations for a "share"?

LOL! Half a man!! Wow! Nice shot! :)

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, How dare you speak in inherently racist tones.

Seriously, when I lived in Virginia... everyone spoke like that. It has nothing to do with race. And to call it race is idiotic. It's also fishing for a grievance.

Unknown said...

Andrew: I live in the middle of an area that was once a major stopping-point for the migration of the "Okies" during the Depression. Dropping g's is endemic, and lately I've notice I'm doin' it. It's regional as much as it's racial.

What the liberals are really upset about is that Obama was telling the crowd to take their destinies into their own hands. The accent was just a coverup for what they really wanted suppressed. If he had said "stop complaining, and stop grumbling" the concept would still have been identical. Ergo, Obama is a racist.

AndrewPrice said...

Lawhawk, I think that's true.

I also think they're upset because they know it won't play well with the public if Obama appears to be "speaking black" to blacks and this reporter was emphasizing that.

In fact, in recent years, it's really become obvious to me that the MSM works hard to let Democrats pander to their interest groups without reporting what was really said at these get togethers because the MSM knows those things would not play well with the public at large.

DUQ said...

I have to say, I'm sick of hearing about racism. Are there racists? Sure. The world is full of jerks and everybody is unfair to everyone else. Deal with it and move on. Nobody in America can keep you down unless you let them.

AndrewPrice said...

DUQ, Very true. There are no excuses in America. If someone doesn't want to hire you, then you go somewhere else or carve your own way. And these days, the law is fair (actually it favors minorities) so there really is nothing to complain about.

Ed said...

Drudge has a headline for a poll: Obama 39% Cain 34%.

Awesome.

I'll bet nobody needs to clean up Cain's quotes!

tryanmax said...

I'm from Nebraska where we always drop our g's. Which is weird, because we don't have any sort of a drawl or lilt or anything that makes for a distinct accent. Most people around here don't even know they do it until it's pointed out. So I think all this hubbub over dropped g's is pretty hilarious.

The only clean-up a journalist is really supposed to do is removing the "uhs" and "ums" and things like stuttering. Normally, one wouldn't alter spelling to reflect dialect. But in the case of Obama, he switches dialects frequently. So it makes journalistic sense for the AP to reflect that because it becomes part of his message.

For awhile now I've been saying that all these liberals crying "racist" are like John Nash finding "code words" where there are none. I was recently called naïve for rejecting the notion that Republicans use racist code words to drum up their base. I replied that, if it is true, then their codes suck because only the people who aren't supposed to understand them ever pick up on them.

It occurs to me that when I learned about the Underground Railroad in grade school, we talked about "code words." Do you suppose the use of code words is a cultural habit that Blacks just assume Whites share?

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, I doubt anyone has to clean up Cain's quotes as well.

That's an interesting poll result. Obama is in serious trouble. I even saw that Paul beats him 51% to 49%. Wow!

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, "if it is true, then their codes suck because only the people who aren't supposed to understand them ever pick up on them" -- very, very true.

That's a good question whether the idea of speaking in code is cultural? I've heard blacks say that whites speak in code since at least the 1980s. And they've come up with the strangest connections between normal words and hidden racist meaning. When I was in law school, there was a big to do because someone decided the word "picnic" was an allusion to lynching, and thus it was racist when our school wanted to hold a picnic. Stupid, I know. But the black student group went insane about the school’s insensitivity/racism.

In any event, I've seen no evidence anywhere that whites speak in code. In fact, most of the whites I've run into have no idea what you're talking about if you mention "speaking in codes." And frankly, the idea is stupid. The idea that (1) whites are some uniformed group who all think alike and coordinate and (2) we have some secret code that we use to hide our true thoughts from blacks, is truly paranoid and wrong.

I think what reinforces this though, is exactly what you see out of Obama (and Clinton before him). He will go to a minority community and speak to that group using different speech patterns and different words, and will say thing that have hidden meanings -- meanings which get fleshed out on black radio and in black magazines by Obama's handlers. That way, he can make promises to them that the rest of us never hear about. So to them, it probably seems realistic to think that whites do the same thing. Except, we don't.

Ed said...

tryanmax, That's a really interesting question? I wonder if other groups think people speak in code?

T-Rav said...

LawHawk, that's a good point; blacks are hardly the only people to "drop their 'g's." I grew up in southern Missouri, and I've heard much more flagrant disregard for the rules of grammar and spelling than that. And we're a predominantly white region.

Anyway, most linguistic and cultural historians of early America agree that while there was some mix, it was mainly southern whites who impacted blacks' speech patterns, not the other way around. So if you think about it, the AP is really being racist against white people. I guess that's one way to solve problems; MSNBC and this journalism hack would surely shut up if this was pointed out to them.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, This g dropping thing is found all over the country. I read a study which says it's actually related to class, with the lower classes doing it more than the higher class. So the whole premise is wrong to begin with.

I wonder what MSNBC would do it you told them this was racist against whites? They'd probably call you racist for demanding white rights or something. I can't see them letting you get away with debunking their silliness.

T-Rav said...

Andrew, no, if it was against whites, then it wouldn't be racism, it would be "speaking truth to power."

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, True. That's usually the way out for liberals when confronted with minority racism.

TJ said...

Andrew, yes I did. However, where I read it, it was reported that the Nascar drivers had "scheduling conflicts". So whether it was really schedule issues or that they didn't feel the need to bow at the altar of Obama, I don't know.

AndrewPrice said...

Anybody hear this bizarro statement from North Carolina governor Bev Perdue saying that we should suspend elections to let Congress do what needs to be done to solve the budget problems?

Welcome to communist thinking land. Let's suspend elections until this crisis has passed, comrade!

AndrewPrice said...

TJ, That's what I read too, but it didn't stop a lot of journalists from bemoaning the "insult" and questioning whether there really can be a scheduling conflict when the President wants to see you. It was pretty unbelievable that they would act like Obama is a king and you have no choice but to obey when called upon.

tryanmax said...

Slightly off topic, but I though this thread would be a good place to share this LINK about racist cupcakes.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Wow! All I can say to the leftists who are protesting is "truth hurts." That's exactly what they are advocating and if they don't like their views being exposed, then change your views.

And let me add, good for the college Republicans! Bravo!

TJ said...

I got an e-mail this morning about Perdue's comment, but I haven't had a chance to look further into it.

I have heard some folks mention in the past about the possibility of Obama declaring martial law prior to the 2012 elections so that they couldn't be held. Could Perdue's comment be the precursor to that?

AndrewPrice said...

TJ, I honestly don't think that can happen. For one thing, I doubt very much that anyone would obey such an order. For another, it would destroy the Democratic Party for forever.

That said, I don't doubt some of them would love the idea of moving to a dictatorship. There are constantly articles from their talking heads about there being "too much democracy" in America -- they particularly want to eliminate the ballot initiative process, which lets people handcuff their governments.

I think Perdue was probably just being stupid. But it really shows her mindset that a sitting governor would suggest suspending the constitution to solve a budget struggle.

T-Rav said...

Andrew, I heard the audio of Perdue's remarks. She's trying to get out of it by saying that she was just joking, obviously. But, um, she was being dead serious. Nothing in her tone or cadence indicated she meant that as a joke.

And to think that not long ago, NC Democrats were protesting against unfair Republicans gerrymandering them out of existence. I don't want to hear another peep from them about it.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I've heard that too, that she's trying to claim she was joking.

As for this stopping them from whining about Republican dictatorships or cheating in election... forget it. Democrats think they can say whatever they want without any consequences.

tryanmax said...

There you go! Whenever liberals accuse conservatives of being racist, we should just say we were joking. It's apparently the "Get out of jail free" card.

Something tells me it wouldn't work, though.

tryanmax said...

Feel free to delete this if it is not kosher, Andrew, but your comment about whining Democrats made me want to share this bumper sticker.

Yes, I came up with it, so this qualifies as shameless self promotion. Like I said, if this violates the law around here, punish me accordingly.

I've been thinking about the Berkley bake sale and I think it's hilarious. That is exactly what affirmative action is about. For leftos to get upset at that is entirely disingenuous.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, And that assumes we haven't forgotten to include anything. He may hold other titles of which we are not currently aware!

AndrewPrice said...

Ed, That's what the left does -- get upset when people point out truth. And that's exactly what they did here by trying to charge different amounts depending on race. How is that not exactly how affirmative action works?

darski said...

I finally figured out why lefties are such poor liars. In order to tell a good lie you have to be aware of *real* reality. Since the left has no grounding in reality they cannot come up with convincing lies.

It also explains S.J. Lee's pitiful attempt at baiting the masses as well.

AndrewPrice said...

darski, That's a good point. The best lies involve some truth, and since the left can't stomach any truth, their lies are pretty pathetic.
