More Fun with Liberal Logic

It comes under the title "More Fun with Conservative Logic" or "More Fun with Neo-Con Logic", Whatever the title, these clever lists of liberal logic are making the rounds on Facebook and are just begging for responses. Responses that I know the clever minds at Commentarama can provide with ripping success. You will notice as you peruse the list, that my wonderfully liberal FB "friends" who pride themselves in their intellect haven't even bothered to read their posts for mindless inaccuracies.[See #3]

But that aside, please feel to free to formulate a response to deflate their inaccuracies with wit and panache that I have come to expect from Commentarama-ians!

1). Clinton, who was banging Monica Lewinsky, had to be impeached according to the Constitution as written by Thomas Jefferson, who was banging Sally Hemings.

2). John Edwards, who had a love child with his mistress while his ailing wife lay dying, was pronounced unfit to hold elected office by Newt Gingrich,
who had a love child with his mistress while his ailing wife lay dying.

3). Willard Mitt Romney, who insists our southern border needs a wall and would have voted against The Dream Act chooses as his running mate Marco Rubio, who wrote the Dream Act and whose parents came to America illegally.

4). Romney says it wasn't worth going after bin Laden until he was dead, then it was.

5). "Al Gore should not have taken campaign donations from the Tobacco industry since his family raised tobacco, " said Bob Dole who took donations from the Tobacco industry after publicly stating there's no known scientific link between cigarette smoking and Lung Cancer.

6). Being gay or lesbian is a choice, but having a baby isn't.

7). Having more guns will produce less gun violence in the same way that building more highways produces less traffic jams. If every hormonal inner-city high-school student were armed with a gun, there would be far fewer school shootings.

8). Photo ID's that cost money to obtain ( for the certified birth certificate) in order to vote does not constitute a violation of the 24th Amendment whereas requiring a photo ID to purchase a handgun is the inevitable descent down the slippery slope to totalitarianism and the end of representative government in America.

9). It makes sense to outlaw abortion AND cancel welfare for unwed teenage Moms. This will produce less dependence on government.

10). It makes more sense to treat poor people in county hospitals and present them with bills they never can nor will pay than to include all Americans on a national health care insurance program.

11). Banks, oil companies, Wall St. etc. , are all capable of self-regulation in the same way that BP IS perfectly capable of filling out its own safety inspection reports.

12). Marketplace law always produces lower consumer prices, such as electric bills in California.

13). Rather than get poor returns on Social Security funds, it makes far more sense to privatize and invest those funds in the Stock Market - with companies such as Enron, J. P. Morgan, WorldCom, etc.

14). The more money rich people have the more money poor people have. This is not done through taxes - it's MAGIC!!

Bev, Wow! What a list of idiocy! Number 3 is great, I guess they aren't up on current events.

It's fascinating they start off by defending two adulterers. I guess that's what liberalism about now? The right to cheat on your wife and not have anyone hold it against you. Yay feminism!

No. 14 is really telling. Clearly, liberals consider jobs as magic. Assholes.

Tam said...

Fun with Liberal logic: "anger" and "angry" = racist. "Niggerization" not so much.

Doc Whoa said...

This is just shocking. Honestly. Anyone who thinks any of this is valid is truly a moron. I'm stunned.

Tam said...

#10: our doctors are the best in the world, educated at the best universities at great cost financially and relative to time and dedication only to be faced with frivolous lawsuits and exorbitant malpractice insurance and yet they should have to work for free because somehow, their labor is the civil right of the people?

DUQ said...

Tam, Think about 10 in any event. They are saying that because some poor people will get hurt, the solution is to force everyone into a bad system rather than helping the poor people.

That's like saying that because someone doesn't know how to fish, we should ban rich people from going to restaurants.

BevfromNYC said...

DUQ - Even more importantly, for all the wars on poverty that have been waged through liberal policies, we are no closer to reducing the number of poor than we were before SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare - reformed or unreformed.

DUQ said...

Bev, I'd say we are further away if anything.

BevfromNYC said...

Tam - Hey, he apologized for using that word! But of course, not for what he meant when he said it. The liberal apology - I am sorry people are upset, but not sorry for what I said.

BevfromNYC said...

Kelly, jobs ARE created by magic. The magic of the workers who hire the boss to pay them kind of magic.

8.) Clothes, which cost money to obtain, and are required to enter a voting booth without getting arrested, do not violate the 24th amendment either.

4.) Obama, who said it wasn't worth helping the private sector until it was dead, then it was.

14). The less money rich people have the less money poor people have. This has been conclusively shown by ECONOMICS.

11). Banks, oil companies, Wall St. etc. , are all capable of self-regulation in the same way that BP IS perfectly capable of filling out its own safety inspection reports. Because there's no such thing as lawsuits.

12). Marketplace law doesn't produce lower consumer prices, especially when the government heavily regulates it.

7). Having no guns will produce less gun violence in the same way that Chicago is murder free.

Dummies. Everyone knows the only magic in the world is the kind that turns stimulus money into new jobs and economic prosperity.

BevfromNYC said...

K - Great responses!

BevfromNYC said...

T-Rav - The magic stimulus money grows on the Magic Money Tree developed by the super secret Government genetic/clone/stem cell project that no one knows about yet.

Oweee! I want to respond, but my brain is crying. Not my eyes, mind, just my brain. In any case, it's definitely seeping some kind of fluid that it wasn't before I read this list.

Frankly, I'm amazed that the spelling and grammar all check out. Maybe I'll throw out some comebacks after the ibuprofen kicks in. ;-)

ellenB said...

tryanmax, It's going to take more than ibuprofen to fix this one. This list is amazing. What a bunch of whiny idiots!

ellenB said...

Bev, People are really passing this garbage around and they're serious? Talks about displaying their idiocy.

I'm thinking Andrew's articles about liberals being stupid are absolutely on point! Well done Andrew!

Tennessee Jed said...

did I miss something?? I thought Clinton was impeached becaused he commited perjury under oath.

BevfromNYC said...

Tryanmax and ellenB - I think to get through this one we need a very special martini. 10oz of vodka - straight!

And yes, ellen, people are really passing this around and defending it. The only reason I wanted to discuss is because I saw it about 3 times posted by various "friends". I am kind of surprised how so many of my "friends" have grown up to be such pinheads. Is that mean of me to say or just the truth?

tryanmax said...

Okay, first of all, most of this list is based on false premises by misstating the conservative position. That makes it extraordinarily difficult to respond to succinctly. Still…

1) Is the argument suggesting that Clinton ought to have been impeached according to some other set of laws? The matter of who was banging who is of no consequence to either the writing or the carrying out of the Constitution.

2) I think we can set aside mistresses and love children by pointing out that Newt’s own party found him to be unfit for office, so the idea that Newt’s declaration expresses a conservative viewpoint is specious.

However, it’s more fun to counter a faulty argument with another faulty argument, so let me revise that to say that Newt’s own party found him to be unfit for office, so how much worse must Edwards be?

3) Is using Romney’s first name an attempt to link him to Crispin Glover? I digress. But why shouldn’t I, as this argument digresses from reality itself.

4) Proof that the left has no real idea what a flip-flop is. Ironically, Daily Kos provides the two quotes which form the basis of this fiction and still doesn’t spot the disconnect even when placing them next to each other.

5) This is a disastrous bastardization of facts. It was Al Gore who publicly stated that there is no scientific link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer. However, to be completely fair to Mr. Gore, he made that statement in 1992, and the scientific link was not established until 1996.

6) We’ve established here at Commentarama that homosexuality is defined by behavior, so by definition, it is a choice. Still, this isn’t really an appeal to logic of any kind. It’s probably more apropos to retort that “it isn’t a choice for the baby.”

7) Actually, I think building more highways might produce less traffic jams, if they were built in the proper locations and design. Furthermore, there exists plenty of evidence to support the more guns reduce violence argument. As to the part about high-schoolers, I’m not aware that such an argument has ever been made by folks on the right.

Whew! That’s wa-a-ay too much fun for a Saturday night! ;-) I’m gonna go out for dinner and tackle 8 – 14 upon my return. Party on, dudes!

BevfromNYC said...

Duuuuude (and by Duuuuude, I mean Tryanmax!), have a good dinner. I await for your excellent responses to 8 to 14.

I plan to stitch together our answers into on giant response to post on FB and see what happens.

BevfromNYC said...

TennJ - Yes, apparently we were ALL wrong to think that Clinton was impeached on the charge of "perjury". What's perjury anyway, but a matter of opinion, right?

T-Rav said...

tryanmax, would that Romney and the rest of GOP did have a secret army of rats to do our bidding. Oh well.

BevfromNYC said...

But T-Rav, I thought you had your kitties trained to our bidding! Or is that just YOUR bidding? I get confused.

AndrewPrice said...

Well done, tryanmax!

Ellen, Thanks! I did indeed a couple articles debunking this claim liberals make that they are smarter. :)

T-Rav said...

Bev, the fewer people who know how they operate, the better.

tryanmax said...

Well, that was an unexpectedly long dinner. Good food, good company, and good convo! Now, on with the show…

8) The point of this argument may be valid, however it is poorly made. Let’s look to the text of the actual amendments. Warning, this one is necessarily a long one.

The 24th states that the right of citizens to vote “shall not be denied or abridged…by reason of failure to pay poll tax or any other tax.” Most folks can discern between a tax and a fee, and the cost to obtain a birth certificate is clearly the latter. If one considers actual proposals on the table, they generally contain provisions which eliminate even the fees. Furthermore, taxation is the only cause of abridgement prohibited by the 24th, which means other causes, such as failure to sufficiently identify oneself, may be valid.

Comparable language in the 2nd states, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This is a very broad prohibition on any conceivable form of encroachment on the right to arms. A reasonable debate could be had regarding whether photo ID to purchase constitutes infringement. However, it is worth pointing out that the terms “deny” and “abridge” are much more proximal than the term “infringe.” In other words, while the 24th Amendment says, “don’t do it” the 2nd is saying, “don’t even get close.”

9) First of all, I don’t know who is making this argument. This trite bit of fluff packs in more false assumptions than I can count. Still, it should be enough to point out that simply canceling welfare will reduce dependence on government. I mean, duh.

10) What can I say? This is a completely false dichotomy that grossly oversimplifies the current manifold of healthcare, insurance, and tort issues. It’s pointless to even begin. As the argument is stated though, neither option makes particular sense. Geez!

11) If regulations--the proverbial chains, if you will--are so great, why do they fail to stop all the disasters that happen in spite of them? And, again, this is another misstatement of the conservative position. Conservatives do not want to eliminate all regulations. They do very much want to streamline the regulatory system. Of course, that’s probably dog whistle for “bring back slavery.” I give up.

12) *Cleansing breath* Okay. Putting aside the fact that most people have a grand total of one electric company to choose from in most markets, what in the entire State of California even remotely begins to resemble a free market!?!?!?!?

13) Um. Yes. It does. Do I need to point out that the entire market does not consist of Enron, J. P. Morgan, WorldCom? Oh yeah. I probably did.

14) Alright, you know what’s magic? The fact that your non-functioning brain still manages to send out impulses to keep your heart and lungs pumping. It’s frickin’ amazing.

So, yeah, there’s my response to the dumb liberal arguments against some made-up ideology that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike conservatism. I admit to getting a little testy near the end, there. But seriously, it’s this kind of nonsense that convinces me that the average liberal is simultaneously blind, deaf, and unable to read Braille. Either that, or some other possibility with far more insulting implications.

BevfromNYC said...

"The more money rich people have the more money poor people have. This is not done through taxes - it's MAGIC!!"

You have to understand to the Prog mind jobs come from the government not prviate enterprise. Thus any money going into the economy not taxed by the government is Magic or from China.... I forget which

Maybe the money comes to us from China by Magic......

Yea that's the ticket

As it happens a (real) Facebook friend of mine reposted this piece of stupidity showing two images, one of a mansion and a doctored Rolls with Romney and a school teacher in class. There's an income listed for each and the supposed percent paid in taxes... Romney 13.9 and the teacher 20.

with the words "JUST THINK ABOUT IT FOR A MINUTE…."

So I wrote:

I have thought about it and there's a whole lot of things wrong with this graphic.

Like every other taxpayer, she gets to take a standard deduction, lowering her income.

And like every other taxpayer, she gets to take a deduction for herself, lowering her income.

If the school teacher contributes to a retirement plan, those are pretax dollars, lowering her income.

If she has any children, she gets a deduction for each kid, lowering her income.

If she's still taking classes, which many teachers do, she can take a percent of those costs to lower her income.

There are a myriad of legal ways EVERY taxpayer can lower their taxable income.

But if she only fills out the EZ form and takes two:

$40,000 gross income – $5,800 standard deduction – $3,700 personal exemption = $30,500 taxable income
▪ $8,500 × 10% = $850.00 (taxation of the first income bracket)
▪ $30,500 – $8,500 = $22,000.00 (amount in the second income bracket)
▪ $22,000.00 × 15% = $3,300.00 (taxation of the amount in the second income bracket)

So her Total income tax is $850.00 + $3,300.00 = $4,150.00 giving her an "effective tax" (meaning what she actually owes) of 10.375%… far less than 20%. In fact, if she takes enough LEGAL deductions, her effective tax rate can approach 0.

So that brings us back to Mitt Romney who, according to this graphic paid $3,002,400 versus the teacher who paid $4,150 in reality. How "fair" is that?

I think rather than resent someone like Romney who is successful, we would be better off spending our time improving our own lot in life. If Romney gave 99% of his income to the Federal government, how does that make your life better?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_tax_in_the_United_States

My friend later replied "I didn't put that much thought into it, but you make good points. I don't think many people put that much thought into it either."

So there's hope for him

"1). Clinton, who was banging Monica Lewinsky, had to be impeached according to the Constitution as written by Thomas Jefferson, who was banging Sally Hemings."

Thomas Jefferson did not write the Constitution nor could he have. He was in FRANCE AT THE TIME! To quote Grandma Addams, "Stop your texting and pick up a book once in a while"*.

------------

"John Edwards, who had a love child with his mistress while his ailing wife lay dying, was pronounced unfit to hold elected office by Newt Gingrich,
who had a love child with his mistress while his ailing wife lay dying."

1st, even an asshole can be right, and 2nd, as pointed out above, Newt's own party gave him the boot.

--------

3). Willard Mitt Romney, who insists our southern border needs a wall and would have voted against The Dream Act chooses as his running mate Marco Rubio, who wrote the Dream Act and whose parents came to America illegally.

Rubio?!?!?! I thought it was Paul Ryan! Did Paul Ryan get booted? Or are you typing from. . . ANOTHER DIMENSION?!?!?! A parallel universe where Rubio is the running mate? Tell me, in your universe did Firefly stay on the air? Did Kaylee and Simon stay together and have lots of babies!?
Or did Joss Whedon screw them up like he's done with so many other couples?
I GOTTA KNOW! I GOTTA KNOW! I GOTTA KNOW! PLEEEEEAAAASSSSSSEE!!!!!!! TEEEEELLLL MMMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pwitty pwease.

-----------

9). It makes sense to outlaw abortion AND cancel welfare for unwed teenage Moms. This will produce less dependence on government.

Or they could just NOT HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX!

-----------

14). The more money rich people have the more money poor people have. This is not done through taxes - it's MAGIC!!

. . . What??? Just pick up an economic textbook you idiot. One not titled "Basic Marxist Economics" (Oxymoronic title if there ever was one).

Bill Clinton was not impeached for having sex with someone other than his wife.

Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about having sex with that woman in order to avoid the embarissment of having sexually harassed an employee. A law that did not exist in Jefferson's time.

Kit, great addition on #1. I didn't even think to fact-check b/c the premise was so wrong.
