Today is the big day in South Carolina. They're finally opening the new WalMart! Oh, and they're having a primary election. It's Romney v. Newt for the Palmetto state, winner take (proportionally) all!
Fox has already started their coverage. CNN starts at 7:00 PM EST. Join us!
In the meantime, riddle me this: if you could make any other country into a state, which country would it be and what would you call the state?

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 301 of 301T-Rav, I have to tell you honestly that I will not vote for Santorum. And I'm serious about that.
On a side note, according to CBS, Joe Paterno has just passed away from lung cancer. RIP.
Andrew:
"No one" is watching this! They are listening to a crowd clapping at a guy who hates the media and another guy who is a nice Catholic boy. Any classiness Mitt has renders him milque toast. Brutal and stupid public.
Dear God,
This is us...now would be a really good time to help us!
Thanks, oh and Amen
Republican Party
T-Rav, That was fast. I heard he was sick today. RIP.
I second Random Republican's request.
Cris, I couldn't agree more. This is idiocy. They are falling for the imagery, just like they fell for Christie.
This is depressing.
I wonder if the emotional stuff sent Joe P down hill faster>
RIP Paterno. What a sad end.
...or as you say "foolaid" Great stuff!
Andrew, I think Santorum is an idiot and would absolutely get beaten in the general, but if he's the nominee, I will vote for him. I don't know that Santorum is a socialist, but even if he is, that makes it a choice between a pro-life, pro-family socialist and a pro-abortion, pro-race-baiting socialist. Not much of a choice, I grant, but still.
rla, I'm sure it did, and I'm sorry that such a great career has to end in scandal and disgrace. But I'm even more sorry that the events which led to the end happened in the first place.
rlaWTX - Paterno probably just lost his will to live.
Okay, I like this song they're playing, but please stop playing the refrain over and over again. It's getting annoying.
T-Rav, I will not support him because he will destroy conservatism if we make him our representative.
The only thing worse than Santorum losing would be winning (not that it can happen -- he'll lose by 30%).
The Republican Party is playing Russian Roulette with the country here with a gun loaded with 5 bullets.
Fox just made the point that SC was undecided until after the last debate. So, I guess instead of Sarah, I'll blame Juan Williams for hitting on the MSM's attacks so much. I wonder, again, how much of this is a reaction to being told what to do by MSM.
Okay, so to be honest, I'm kinda flipping back and forth between this and "The Prestige" on IFC while Rove is yakking. Andrew, you should review that at some point. I don't know how I feel about it.
rlaWTX, I think a lot of what happened is that the media tried to smear Newt and the electorate decided "I'm not going to let you tear down another one."
T-Rav, Let me think about how to present it.
rla, I would guess that's about 80% of it. I don't think there's a voter in the country, for example, who would consider Newt a very strong candidate on his own.
Open Question:
Does it bother you that Romney is Mormon?
Me personally? Nope, not for a second. I've known a lot of Mormons and they are frankly some of the nicest Christians you will meet with the best values.
Bev, as compared to Newt's, Paul's and Rick's limitations, not even a bit. Even as compared with Mitt's other limitations, his religious faith isn't a problem for me.
But I was just thinking about this and I wonder when the super-pac's will start pushing the Mormonism issue in ads.
But Bev, it clearly does matter. CNN had a graphic early in the night where they showed that of those who said "the candidate's religion was important," only 9% voted for Romney. The rest split Santorum and Newt.
Andrew - Huckabee is saying that Romney needs to "address his Mormon faith". Why?
Like you, I've known Mormons and they are the nicest, most respectful people I've met in years. And apparently they have a great sense of humor about them because they love South Park and are thrilled at the success of "Book of Mormon".
Bev, as a believing Christian, I have issues with the theology of Mormonism, at least what I know of it. But it's close enough to orthodox Christianity in most respects, so no, it doesn't bother me that the next President could be a Mormon. I listened to Glenn Beck for a long time before I decided he was getting a bit kooky, and I knew he was Mormon but didn't care.
Bev, There is no answer to the Mormon issue. The people who see it as an issue won't be convinced by any speech.
Bev, there is a strong feeling among conservative (often called evangelical) Christians that Mormonism still qualifies as a cult and is certainly not "Christian". And they are serious about it. Generally, they are not ecumenical. (Catholics are often not considered "Christian" either)
There is a old prejudice among Christian against Mormonism. But I had no idea it was so prevalent.
And yeah, based on what experience I have, I would say there are a lot of people (especially in the South) for whom being a Mormon does matter.
good point about converting them, Andrew.
it's a case of "they're nice people, but..."
is their chant "Newt can win"??
Newt can't win!
Newt can't win!
Newt can't win!
Newt can't win!
Newt can't win!
They're not saying "Newt can't win" right?
that's what I heard, crowd.
rlaWTX, That's awesome cheering isn't it?
"We think we can beat the other guy!"
"We think we can beat the other guy!"
"We think we can beat the other guy!"
"We think we can beat the other guy!"
Nice.... open with a cheapshot joke.
Though personally I can't possibly trust anyone who not only doesn't drink liquor, but doesn't drink caffeine! How do they wake up in the morning?
Sorry, I wanted to lighten the room for a moment...
I'd like to thank General Mills whose cereal I truly appreciate.
LOL, Bev.
Newt, one does not WIN the Medal of Honor!!!!!!
Bev, they get around the caffeine issue by taking meth! :)
// just kidding
This is a horrible speech.
Paul's speech was more interesting...
We represent!
EGO, it's what for dinner.
So Reagan was just an actor who made movies and he just happened to be there when the Soviet Empire vanished huh?
While this is going on, here's an article from a Fox News contributor who I presume is a Newt supporter. The spin here is so amazing I really want to believe it's tongue-in-cheek, but I just don't know. LINK

Selling the four of you as what America stands for is a nonstarter. You are turds.
I have this weird recollection that Newt used to be one of those elites. I must be very confused.
T-Rav, He is the definition of an elitist.
Also, that article is insane.
when did he become a not-elite?
Every other speech was better tonight... by far. Even Stalintorum.
7 3-hour debates??? not even going to happen - even w/ teleprompter.
Yes, repeating jokes is great for speeches.
// rolls eyes
rla, I think it was about the time he got kicked out of office.
"I believe this campaign comes down to everything."
And let me say, people who see Saul Alynsky lurking in the shadows are idiots.
so, why doesn't he really stand in that centerpiece instead of wandering everywhere else????
I feel left out.
Now we pander to evangelicals.
We already got the Paul people earlier.
I wonder what's next? The elite?
does Newt know that he's being broadcast on TV? that he is not just there to pander to his in-person audience? He's got some good points, but - seriously!
RACIST!!!!
Hold on, I've got a list...
"I drink Tea and I love parties, the elite don't."
"I am part black, the elite are not."
"Ronald Reagan owes me $20."
"I believe in the gold standard, the elite don't."
"Rick Perry loves me."
"I believe in the Tenth Amendment"*
* except where it applies to any of my ideas
"I believe in citizenship!"*
* read: granted to illegals
"I hate China."*
* does not apply to the country China.
No, Rick Perry loves US!
common sense conservatism = pandering
Andrew, do I need to call the men in white coats? I get the feeling you're foaming at the mouth out there. :-)
The Core of Engineers is not stupid. They are a solid organization.
T-Rav, I'm starting to think I may need medication if this keeps up.
have to admit that the regs are stupid.
I don't get no respect.
Stay with me people, I've got 500 more pages to get through on my speech.
rlaWTX, Yes they are... but he's not a man who will end them, he's a man who wants to replace them with his own versions.
"How weak is he...?!"
once again, really good points hidden amongst the crazy!
Please tell me this is him wrapping up.
Anyone who fears the boogeyman is not someone whose views can be taken seriously.
rla, I thought that was Ron Paul's campaign motto.
T-Rav, Give it time. He hasn't gotten around to REALLY praising himself yet.
Sir, if I knew anyone in Florida I would certainly call and tell them not to vote for you.
What happened to conservatism? Is it dead?
OK - it's time to NOT listen to the commentators. Been sanity-saving to share this balderdash with y'all...
???? How is Gingrich going to win 19 of 25 delegates? Crap, I may need to take a second look at my numbers....
rlaWTX, You too. I'm switching over to Snow Beast!
Then I'm smoking crack.
Good night all.
Well, this has been fun (sort of). Before I get off, I should note that Paterno may not have died after all; that first report is in some doubt. So, yeah. In any case, good night all!
T-Rav, That's how zombie movies start.
Hey, all. A buddy dropped by so that's why I left so suddenly.
RE: Alcohol and Crack - I'm sticking to alcohol for now, but if Paul or Ricky get the nod, I'm going straight to meth. I figure when my teeth and hair start falling out, the rest won't bother me as much.
You know, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks something really insane is going on here.
Andrew
I am confused. Isn't Obama the reincarnation of Benito Musolini. At any rate I know his industrial polkicy is.....
Individualist, We seem to have a lot of Mussolinis suddenly. I guess we did lose the war... it just took 60 years for us to realize it.
Andrew
IF this keeps up I amy have to vote for Romney again just to keep out the other guy.
Now I think I mayh have to freak out.
Car 54, Hermain Cain Where are You!
Indi, This whole thing is becoming a mess. I am genuinely angry that we couldn't find a good conservative to take this nomination. How in the world could we end up with these clowns as our choices?!
Hey, we should run. I mean if a corporation is considered a "citizen", why can't blog be a Presidential candidate?
Bev, That would be great! LOL!
I second that
Commentarama for President
Some one else is thinking the same thing I am.
Look for the last two throw away sentences.
Joel, The key word in all of that was "suicide." That's what the Republicans are doing right now.
