Occupy Wall Street...No More -1%'ers!

OWS in the Snow

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these...yada, yada, yada..."
- Me

They will never go away. In the beginning everyone with a sign and a gripe was welcomed. As one person described "If you put every liberal and progessive idea into a giant blender, the result would be Occupy Wall Street". As the Occupy Wall Street "movement" has progressed, so have the donations. Money and goods have been pouring in from all over the country. It was reported this week in the New York Post, that our intrepid Occupiers at Zuccotti Park have raised over $450,000 in cash plus about the same amount in donated services and goods like cold weather tents, clothes, and organic food. By my estimation, they have acculumated almost $1 million worth of cash and goods. [Doesn't that put them in the same category of the "rich"?] All of the goods are being stored in a large space donated by United Federation of Teachers and the cash is being stored in Amalgamated Bank. Imagine, they are using a bank to hold their money! A former hotel chef has been cooking all of their meals from the donated organic food (roasted organic chicken with rice and seasonal organic vegetables) at a donated kitchen facility at a local church. Kumbaya, My Lord...Kumbaya!

Well, I'm thinking that our Occupiers missed the Sesame Street episodes on "sharing". In the last few weeks, word has spread far and wide about all the free clothes, sleeping bags, and good eats available to anyone who wants it. So, lucky for the Occupiers, reinforcements to the movement have been arriving from all over the region to add their voices to the Peoples' Microphone. I call them the "-1%'ers". Yes, -1%'ers are not just the white, disaffected upper middle class Occupiers. These are the hardcore homeless looking for a meal, a warm sleeping bag, and maybe a some shoes without holes. You'd think that these -1%'ers would be welcomed as the living, breathing examples of the what the evil, rich 1%'ers have done to this country. Well, surprise, our little Socialists/Communists/Up With The Downtrodden Occupiers do not like their new compatriots one bit. How dare they want the free food and clothing that they have worked so hard to acquire! How dare these -1%ers want a free warm sleeping bag or tent to sleep in! It's THEIR free stuff, not for the homeless! It has gotten so bad that even the OWS kitchen crew went on strike. They are tired of feeding the undeserving homeless who are only there to get a hot meal. So, they put their collectivist feet down and will only be serving brown rice, beans, and PBJ sandwiches three times a day to the "real" Occupiers only. Who would have thought that the real people in need, the -1%'ers, would be such a nuisance? Of course, what's to become of all those donated organic free-range chickens and seasonal vegetables? I'm guessing that the next donation will be a warm place for the Occupying "management" to dine homeless-free.

And in other OWS news, the NY Fire Department went in yesterday morning and removed all of the gas powered generators citing safety violations. The Occupiers were using the gasoline and bio-fueled generators to power all of their Wall Street Investor/Inventor-made computers, heaters, cell phones and keep their food warm. Interesting timing as it was just one day ahead of our first hardcore Nor'Easter of the season. But all is not lost. A company in Massachusetts has offered to replace them with five bicycle-powered generators next week. I am hoping that the NY Buildings Department will move in next week and order them to take down the Shantytown tarps and tents. And so the Occupation continues...

Bev, No irony there that these people spokesmen for the downtrodden would despise the actual downtrodden. That's the same way they were in Russia and everywhere else.

I love the idea of taking away their power so their gadgets run out of steam.

And I think we need to make sure they pay their taxes... lousy rich people!!

Finally, let me suggest that it would be really, really cool if someone decided to treat them like they treated Manuel Noriega and showed up with huge boomboxes and blasted old tapes of Rush Limbaugh's show at ultra high volumes! :)

Andrew - I'm surprised that the IRS hasn't shown up and asked to see their books and get their cut yet.

Unlike others, I don't think they are going to leave anytime soon. They are hunkering down for the cold weather even though some are cheating by using a friendly art gallery. The union friendly City Counsel Speaker Christine Quinn is rooting for the protesters and any time the police touch one of them, they scream "brutality"!! It's a no win situation to remove them even though they are losing support from the neighborhood and the general citizens. One guy said he wouldn't leave "until the tear gas starts", so the OWS'ers WANT it to get violent.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I also doubt they're planning on leaving. But I actually think it's great they are there. Every day they sit there festering away with their idiotic demands is another day that the public sees what kind of world the left would create if given the chance.

Also, if there is any sense of lawlessness, as there already is and will continue to be, it will reflect poorly on the Democrats because this is happening under Obama's regime in the biggest, most liberal cities in the most liberal states.

In effect, they are reminding people that when Democrats are in charge, there is chaos in the streets. And they are demonstrating how devoid of anything good or worthwhile progressives have become.

So I say, let the tantrum continue right up until election day 2012. :)

Bev, That's funny! :)

I like the idea from last week of shutting the gates on the park and watching them turn to cannibalism on pay per view. You know this crowd would never be able to work together to achieve anything like escape.

Man, reality does suck for these -1%ers, doesn't it? How horrible that they can't just be free-spirited anarchists all the time, and have to think about things like governing and planning ahead and so on. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

I don't have much to add to the OWS discussion, other than to say to some of these people, "If you want a job, walk down to 100 Wall St. and visit AppleOne Employment Services - they kept me busy more often than not! It won't pay much but it's a start and they're real nice."

Maybe it's my naivete but I do think it's a shame people can't protest without it turning into a circus, or being taken over by political organization. I'll go out on a limb and say there surely must be some kids there who are actually sincere and who wish no violence on anyone (and who are not anti-Semites). But why should they get any attention?

On the other hand, I almost wish I was there so I could bring a funny sign. I've had a laugh at some of these things. (NSFW)

BevfromNYC said...

Scott - I think there ARE protesters there who are sincere. But since there is no clearly defined message, it has become a free-for-all for every gripe. And since whatever leadership they have refuses to condemn the really most incendiary and hateful, they will have to live with what they get.

Frankly I find it really amusing that they are complaining that the MSM is seeking out only the "crazies" and painting them ALL as "crazies". When the TP'ers complained about that very same thing, the libs just doubled down on the insults.

BevfromNYC said...

T-Rav - the problem with anarchy is that it's so anarchic. They don't really want anarchy, they just want stuff for free. It's kind of amazing how they have set up their own little free enterprise/capitalistic micro-economy. Lots of t-shirt sales, pins, tourist memorabilia. They even have their own newspaper - "Occupy Wall Street Journal"

BevfromNYC said...

Duq - I think the city should tell them that they are free to stay in the park, but the minute that one of them leaves the property, they can't come back.

At over a million U.S.D. they are in the category of the rich and need to be taxed accordingly.
My real hope is that you all have the most hellacious winter ever.
Freeze the bastards out!!!

Bev, Here's your link: LINK.

Scott, I'm sure there are some good people there, they're just idiots because the things they want are utopian. But MOST of them are spewing a rather hateful ideology of "take from those we deem unworthy". That's not utopian, that's hate.

I read somewhere that the OWS crowd wants to secede. Pffftttt...Please do!

BevfromNYC said...

Tam - Secede what? I don't think that they can just confiscate public land (or private land like Zuccotti Park), just 'cause. However, why don't we all chip in an buy them an island somewhere! Who's in?

DUQ said...

Bev, I'll let them have the park if our government agrees to build a wall and protect the border. They can become the new Cuba! :D

Tam said...

I was thinking that since they can't secede with "their" territory, they would just remove themselves from the country. I'd be willing to pitch in a few dollars for an island of exile.

AndrewPrice said...

Folks, let's be smart about this, socialist smart.

1. We want to ship them somewhere nice, like Satan's Atoll.

2. They are rich... they are now the 1%.

3. They want us to tax the rich.

4. I like their thinking.

Ergo, we should tax them for the price of the tickets and the island. Then we can deport them. Problem solved on the backs of the dirty rich. :)

Thanks for the update Bev.

They don't play well with others do they? Where's their compassion?
Heck, where's their faux compassion?

When these protesters talk about "sharing the wealth" they mean other peoples wealth, not theres.

Just like they want everyone else to help the homeless. We see what they do with their opportunity to do so.
Obviously they ain't willing to put their money or time where their mouth is but that's true of 99% of socialists/commies/nazis/anarchistsand wealthy democrats from what I have seen.

They really missed a lot of opportunities to get sympathy from the average joe (and joe-ettes).
I daresay they need to work on their acting skills.

Personally, I'm glad they are letting their true colors show. I guess it must be the harsh conditions they must endure that's grating away at their pc talking points brain cells.

I'll give 'em kudos for being honest at least.
Too bad they are still committing cluelesside though.

Puffington Host News-

Ben Stiller has signed on to Zuccotti Thunder, based on true events about the OWS protestors.

Stiller will reprise his role of Simple Jack, the leader of the protestors.

Robert Downey Jr. is being sought to play the person of color in the protest.

When asked if he would sign onto the project he said, "I have to check my Avengers calendar," using an australian accent.

When told Stiller would star in it Doney replied, "Dammit, I told him not to go full retard."
